    If you sign up a dog you get $15 worth of coupons for that dog every month, and say you sign up a fish they deduct $1 from the monthly payment because you signed up another pet. You also receive $5 from that fish totaling $20 in coupons for the month. So that pays for the dogs subscription assuming you buy food every month then you only pay the $9 a month for the fish, with the additional discounts with their food and supplies. The 10% discount for the dog applies to everything in that is food, and 20% off supplies (Each time you go in to purchase) so essentially you dont need to pay for the 3 dogs just 1. Its a good program assuming you go into petco a lot normally and buy stuff. If you are there once in a blue moon you are better off using someones number that you know has the vital care program. They also honor their online price and in some cases you find a generous employee they can do something extra for you.

    Here's how to get revenge on Petco. when you buy a new tank at Petco, the sticker that aqueon puts on the side of the tank states that all aquariums up to 15 gallons have a 90 day warranty, aquariums 16 to 54 gallons have a 5 year warranty , and tanks 55 and up have a lifetime warranty against leaks....then it states that Aqueon has approved any retailer to just replace the tank.
    recently I returned a 3 year old 40 gallon that had started leaking , they said no way , I pointed out the guarantee on the aquariums that they were selling , spoke to the manager and left with a brand new 40 gallon.
    the law says if you sell an item with a written guarantee, you must honor that guarantee !
    the manager was not happy, but , I had the original receipt and she had to suck it up !

    I bought a fluval 407 canister filter from petco. They were selling it for $229, so I bought the fish membership to save 20% plus the $5 rewards. The petco by me will also give me 10% off in store pickup on items over $50. So I got 30% off of a $229 item plus a extra $5 off. I ended up saving about $75. I'd say it's worth it if you are buying more expensive items.

    At Petco, I just bought a ($35) 6g cube tank (for shrimp) on the 50% off sale. Someone had rifled through and taken the levelling mat. So I took it back and exchanged for a complete, unopened. I asked the cashier if the manager might be willing to discount the incomplete tank I returned... Turns out he was the manager! And said I could have the tank, free!! So two 6g cube tanks for $35.
    So, tldr, it pays to ask questions about discounts!!

I have a question for you my tank is 4 foot long 18 inches from front to back and 2 feet tall so it’s roughly about 85 gallons or so I’m just getting started into planted I’m gonna start with the easy stuff but then might get into the higher light stuff my question to you is what I’d be OK adding to aqua skies on this tank or one plant 3.0 and one Aquasky or just one plant 3.0 please let me know I may never get into higher light plants so I’m definitely torn between what I should do.

    What I would like to know is how do people buy petco tanks when they go on sale?! Online inventory does not match actual store inventory so when I call and website says they have 6... 75 gallon tanks... what that means is they have none. And so calling 6 petcos later in 45 mile radius there is 1 tank available that when you consider price of gas to get there and back you basically get no discount.
    Is there a petco trick to actually get my hands on a 75 gallon tank that's in stock when it goes on sale and is in stock?

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  Год назад +1

      I haven't dealt with stock issues quite like that, but for the most part I'm not after 75s. I'm usually after 40 gallon breeders and it's a lot easier to find those at local petco's. You can talk to a store and have them order you things. Most store staff are willing to do that.

    Petco is horrible as far as overcharging people. Since, they've rebranded as a "health and wellness" company they've jacked up their prices. Their vet clinic went up like 20 bucks per package. Their rewards used to be 5 bucks for every 100 and now you have to spend like 130 to get 5. So, yeah, Petco sucks!

    @kendallwikoff8900 Год назад +4

    I’m kinda disappointed that you didn’t do the math. Assuming you actually go in and use the $5 monthly rewards, the yearly cost is $60. Once you’ve spent $300 within the aquatics category, you’ve already saved $60 and then any additional purchases are all 20% off. The math isn’t difficult. And then there’s the multi-pet discount. I have accounts for my fish, reptiles and small mammals, which total to $9 a month after the discount. I only had to spend $180 within each of the three categories to pay them off for the year, which I passed immediately. The program saves you money as long as you do some math in advance. Most of us spend at least $180-$300 a year at Petco, especially when we’re just getting started. It saves people a lot of money. Just sayin’.

    Both stores are aggressive in their ways of trying to get money out of people.
    Tank sale aside.... Petco is normally cheaper and normally has more in stock. Not always, but normally.
    That being said, go try to buy any tank at PetSmart and it's 3-4x the price. The fact that their own website is OFTEN way under the store price, they don't do enough for me as a customer to want to spend time going to the store, then be forced to buy their brand, and then be forced into old stuff that's been sitting (or better yet opened).
    There's a lot of issues with how these stores generally operate. It's a dog and cat store with some other things. Almost always tailored heavily towards those two species.
    If you actually want to get a normal tank setup using a normal budget and trying to pick what works well, almost always you have to go to both or one and then order what you can't find online.
    Imagine if you went to the mall for clothes, had to buy a shirt from one place, socks from another, and then pants from somewhere else. Seems weird. But having to go buy airline hose from one shop and the pump from the other. Fish from one, food from the other, it's really pathetic how these two companies have chopped up partnerships and offerings to not even have a quality setup for the actual animals / customers.
    Just weird. The whole experience is really really weird to me sometimes walking into the stores now.

    I don't think you are right when you say you have to register every single dog. I think you just register per category of animal. And 20 percent off is generous you just have to be careful to truly evaluate if you are winning throughout the year or fooling yourself

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  Год назад

      If you're trying to take advantage of the various grooming rewards as an example, you have to make an appointment based on each dog. So an example of this would be with my dogs. I have to have each of the dogs in there and if I am taking in say Lulu but I only registered Papalymo, because that's a different dog in their system and as well as the app, I would not get credit for the grooming done on Lulu. This is just one example. If you're not using those services, of course you probably only need to register a singular animal, but depending on how your registering your animals, there is a potential at a certain level depending on the number of say dogs and cats that you have you can get the discount down to a point of where it actually becomes more benefit than cost.

      Bentley is correct on needing a Vital Care Premier membership for each dog or cat in your family. This is because those programs offer the grooming and veterinary discounts that can be costly and should be maintained with routine. However, for our small animal, bird and aquatics plans, a single plan for your household would suffice to take advantage of the savings discounts. Additionally, each household only needs one Vital Care Core (our free membership) to take advantage of our sales and promotions. Our app does offer the ability to include multiple pet profiles for all your pets so we can help you track what purchases and services they may be due for. Hope that helps clarify!
