    thanks for this! Robin has always been my favorite -- Barry is the amazing "leader" in most of their songs (big brother) - but Maurice is so under-rated.. he could hit any of those notes on any day of the week, too - and played a lot of instruments as well...

    • @Erizedd
      @Erizedd 3 года назад +2

      I agree. It's a shame Maurice didn't get much opportunity to use his falsetto in a solo capacity. Though I do think that the main reason for it was because, although Maurice could sing higher then both of his brothers, he had a harder time sustaining it then all of them. I wonder what it would have been like if Maurice had honed his falsetto to the degree that Barry had. Would have been interesting!

      @@Erizedd I always felt
      MO was happiest playing instruments, especially bass,
      at which he was considered a
      Master. HE was gifted a personal bass, by John Lennon so he wasn't too underrated. He also enjoyed
      all the production work of putting it all together. No doubt though, he could sing as well. I LOVE ALL OF THEM!

      I really don’t know what Maurice’s voice sounds like. I heard him on one of their TV specials and he sounds like an old singer in The Grateful Dead named Pigpen. And I know his falsetto from the live version of NOB on the Midnight Special. Otherwise I have no clue. They could have let him sing more parts.

    I think Robin and Barry’s voices are a perfect complement to each other. Robin has a fast, tremulous vibrato and pure tone while Barry’s voice is richer with a much slower vibrato. Like two sides of the same voice, when they sing in unison, as in the chorus of Fanny, it’s almost impossible to hear them as separate voices, the blend is so amazing. I like hearing them sing separately but it’s magic when they join forces.

    • @Erizedd
      @Erizedd 3 года назад +2

      1000% agree with you!! I always feel incredibly happy specifically listening to Bee Gees songs where Barry and Robin take turns singing verses and then coming together in the chorus, ad-libbing together, etc - as you said, there's something magical about it, and I think it feels like a bit of a soothing balm against how they clashed outside of music. When I listen to those songs it feels like it's what was truly important and meant to be. As individuals they didn't like each other that much, but it's clear that beneath it all the two of them _loved_ and respected each other a _hell of a lot_ : blood runs deep, and you can't erase the shared experiences of hardship and sticking together while growing up.

    As you become more acquainted with the Bee Gees bro you’ll know that they have a massive back catalogue stretching back to the 1960’s and long before they earned the label Disco kings thanks to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. And yes apart from the myriad of hits for themselves they have produced and written hit songs with other artists too. They produced an album in the 1980’s for Dionne Warwick called Heartbreaker which spawned the song if the same title which they wrote and which Dionne wasn’t sold on but recorded it anyway trusting the Bee Gees confidence that it was a hit in waiting. Thankfully it proved the biggest commercial success for Dionne that decade. The Bee Gees were also behind one of the biggest duets which featured Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers who recorded Islands In The Stream, another Bee Gees creation!
    And although it didn’t do as well on the Billboard Hot 100 the Bee Gees were behind a substantial hit for Diana Ross in the 80’s, Chain Reaction!!
    One of my favourite Bee Gees tracks beside’ DW’s heartbreaker is their 80’s ‘comeback’ record, You Win Again 😊🇬🇧🇺🇸

    Their older sister, Leslie, was part of the group in the beginning. She's also the oldest in the family. She lives in Australia with hubby and their 7 or 8 children & many grandchildren. She and hubby breed a particular type of dog. There was also the youngest brother, Andy, who was not part of the Bee Gees, but after he finished the contract he was in.. .they had plans to bring him into the group..unfortunately, he passed away before that could happen. The 3 boys died in the reverse order of their birth, youngest to oldest ( Robin was 30 minutes older than Maurice). Very sad. They were all extremely talented. Barry wrote the first 5 (at least 5) of Andy's songs, all went to #1. Andy was practically a clone of Barry..he had so much potential. Never will there be a group of song writers or singers the likes of the Gibb brothers.

    The Bee Gees were Big internationally. Originally from England but the family went to Australia when the brothers were still children. There was a fourth brother, too young to be included in the Bee Gees. Andy Gibb carved out a singing career for himself, but struggled with drug addiction & sadly died five days after this 30th birthday. Robin & Maurice, the twins, both died some years ago, leaving the oldest, Barry Gibb, as the sole survivor. All four brothers had good singing voices & harmonised beautifully together. They had quite a number of smash hits internationally.

    In 1969 the Bee Gees broke up because of a dispute about which song should be the A side on their single from the album Odessa.
    Should it be First Of May with Barry on lead or Lamplight with Robin on lead. Their manager choose First Of May and Robin said "I've Had it" and left the group.
    Ofcourse there had problems for some time between the ego's of Barry and Robin but this was the final straw.
    In 1970 they sat down together to try to straight things out and on that day they wrote this song which became their first US number 1 and Lonely Days which is another big hit for them.
    Lonely Days was released as a single and on their album 2 Years On from 1970 and How Can You Mend A Broken heart was released as a single and on their album Trafalgar from 1971.

    SO MANY YOUNG people falling in love with songs these days 🤣🤣🤣 only to find that some other artist (on more than many occasions, it was the Bee Gees - they wrote SO many songs) has written it previously. This was written after a falling out between Robin and Barry when they got back together. Another INCREDIBLY beautiful song was written by Barry and sung by all three brothers after their younger brother Andy died. I've been a huge fan since they came on the scene in 1967 (I'm 68) and just love to see young people enjoy our precious Bee Gees like we did decade after decade. And, thank you, for appreciating Robin and Maurice as well as big brother Barry. They were magic together with their perfect harmonies but each brother had a unique voice and sang fantastic leads throughout their amazing career as the best group ever! Please focus on Robin (my favorite Bee Gee) in the late 60's by reacting to any or all of the following: "I Started a Joke" and "Massachusetts" both from their '89 Melbourne concert and "I Can't See Nobody" and "And the Sun Will Shine" both from their 1974 Melbourne concert. These four songs will give you great insight into Robin's beautiful voice and show you just how fantastic this group was from the very beginning. They continued to sing their early songs throughout the years because their fans so appreciated their very early hits. Again, thank you, and I can't wait to see what I've missed so far.

    I was 10 when this came out. It’s probably the first song I heard from them. They are so talented but if you follow their life time of music, you can tell they really gave it their all. They wanted to be the best. It was their dream as little kids. I love Al’s version of this but the original touches my soul. Speaking of Al Green, his “Let’s Stay Together “ is flawless and perfect. If you haven’t heard it check it at.

    The way they decided who sings, whoever brings in a idea for a song can sing it, or anyone else can.. very fair!!! Maurice like to concentrate on his instruments.. mainly Barry & Ribbon butt heads at 19yrs for Robin 22 yrs for Barry.. there was also outside influences saying you don’t need him then tell the other you don’t need him.. luckily Robin came to Barry and wanted to stay with bee gee .. after 15 months and they both had a number 1 and 2 records.. 🤣 so that’s that.. very funny Maurice was the man in the middle he’d get it from both Barry &Robin .. however he said no one said you don’t need them … 😂 there journey from Isle of Man (born) to England then to Australia then back to England then America .. america changed their lives!!!!!!

    I love Al Greens version but the Bee Gees original is unique and beautiful. Robin Gibbs lead vocals are beautiful. He is a much underrated vocalist.

    Their string of hitsongs in the sixties: 'Spicks And Specks', Barry on lead, 'New York Mining Desaster 1941', both on lead, but lil more Robin, 'To Love Somebody', Barry on lead, 'Massachusetts', more Robin on lead, 'World', sang together but lil more Barry on lead, 'Words', Barry on lead, 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You', lil more Robin on lead, 'I Started A Joke', Robin on lead, 'First Of May', Barry on lead. Equality reigns over all! So don't believe in some of those comments, always pronouncing, Robin was their dominant leadsinger in the sixties. Wether on their singles, nor on their albums! Just nearly a fifty/fifty thing. And that's a fact and also it's perfect. Both of them are phantastic. Maurice too! No brother over the other in case of being better. I'm feeling very comfortable with my situation, so I can really enjoy every song of the bros. Gibb, which ever saw the light of day. Mustn't always cry out loud BARRY, BARRY, BARRY or ROBIN, ROBIN, ROBIN. Also I love every leadvocals of Maurice and the songs, Andy sang.

    A little back story about the Bee Gees and this song. The Bee Gees for group for several years and the late 60s and early seventies when all of a sudden the record industry cost of Rift between the band members because Robin in the original beginning of the Bee Gees was almost always the lead singer and then when Barry started coming on and singing his falsetto all of a sudden he got these two great singers so the record industry tries to break them up so that they can have solo Stars. And for I don't know two or three years they were broken up and there was a lot of bad blood between Robin and Barry caused by the record industry they found out or I should I say Robin found out that that solo way wasn't working so good for him and the group kind of made peace and got back together again and this was their very first or one of their very first songs once the group rejoined again and they were never separated from that time on. I know you like to know anything you can learn about groups and songs and things like that and I thought you would enjoy that backstory because only a few people really knew about it because they weren't real big yet then you had to really be a Bee Gees fan to know about it and you know it two or three-year break up like that didn't seem like it was anything because a lot of groups sometimes take two or three years between hits so anyway I thought you would find this interesting.

    Barry had this song almost completely written when Robin came back from having left the group, and Barry, as a gesture, asked him if he wanted to help him finish it. And he offered to let Robin sing the first part.
    I love Barry’s clear, strong, mellow, gorgeous-toned voice.
    I agree about giving the different perspectives. It’s part of what makes them great.

    They also wrote “lonely days” at the same time, both this snd lonely days were about them missing each other (after their 15 month breakup). You should check it out as well. Oh, there is another killer song they did around the same time called “ Run to me”. : ruclips.net/video/40N22AG-Sag/видео.html ( 1972 live)

    I don't know if you know this but not one of them could read or write music. Also Maurice is pronounced Morris and he has in my opinion the most talent of all of them. Check out Man in Middle that is one of his solo performances. You can hear a country side of Maurice.
