I think she didn't mind singing but I know she didn't want to act it's sad we thought when they came out "oh her and her mom have such a good relationship" now we know her mom was an abusive self centered narcissist and that's putting it nicely
It's sad, I used to think that she must be having a lot of fun time playing Sam because it really looks like she does. Then I realized that she was forced to do that
Everything she says in her book about what she went through. It makes total sense because you know her mom forced her to do acting, but I don’t think she minds doing the singing career part, because she does have a really good singing voice, even though she retired from acting and being in the entertainment industry, it’s great to see that she knows that we still like listening to her country music and watching her on Nickelodeon shows.
The creepiest part is that I’d watch that 10+ years ago and think “wow, I’m so jealous of hers and her mom’s relationship.” When in reality, we were in fact living parallel lives.
Faith Hill’s you can’t lose me broke my heart the first time I listened to it. My relationship with my mom was NOTHING like how that song paints how a mother daughter relationship should be.
This feels so dark to watch as her book "Im Glad My Mom Died" came out today. Talking to her mom in the song. It's so sad to know how bad everything was for her during this time.
Holy crap I've never heard this tern before. Not sure if it's mentioned in the book, I'm halfway through. But this is exactly what I went through. Horrible. Thanks for sharing
At age 21 I attempted unaliving myself and used the remaining little of my moms juice to wash down the Tylenol I took. My mom took me to hospital cause I was dry heaving and keeping her awake. On the way to hospital she kept reminding me I owed her $3 for the juice I didn't ask to drink.😮

Excerpt from I'm Glad My Mom Died. "Not That Far Away,” a song written from “my” point of view (by a couple of songwriters I sat next to for a few hours) to my mother, about being on the road without her and how much I miss her, even though in reality I’ve never spent more than a few hours away from her in all my eighteen years I don’t know much about music, but I know as I listen to this song that I find the rhythm un-rhythmic, the melody one-note, and the production outdated. I express none of these thoughts because of how much Mom loves it. Tears are streaming down her cheeks. Granted, I don’t think they’re just tears of joy. There’s a weight to them too, a significance, and I think I know why. Life has imitated art, if you can call this song that. (You can’t.)

Currently on chapter 38 and it brought me here. I’m amazed how beautiful her voice really is but scared to continue to read considering the comments. So far the book is great.
I used to really love this song. But recently, after Jennette's book, and my deconstruction of the trauma from my own narcissistic mother, this hits home in a weird way.
It's so weird, looking back. I used to watch this video and cry at it when I was a kid, and my home life was fraught enough that I was so jealous of the kids on shows like iCarly (which was my fave). Looking back as an adult having read her book is crazy, realising I knew absolutely nothing. I'm so glad she's gotten to the point she has now and got through everything she did :(
Watching after reading about her process writing this in I'm Glad My Mom Died. It's so sick how they had her portray this image of an independent young woman, when in reality her mom was encouraging her anorexia and showering her still. God bless Jennettee, I'm so happy that this song rings truer now for her life than it did then. She deserves independence.
It is absurd to have her portraits, but even though she has done bad things to her, she loves her mother very much and can't help but thank her for making her what she is, even though her mother took a very questionable way in her upbringing.
@@laurabonadies7974tbh I see how strong she’s become now, and she’d never be able to spite Dan Schneider making double the money off her book than she did on Nickelodeon if not for her upbringing. People often say that her mom doesn’t deserve her forgiveness, which is true. Jennette has said that she doesn’t forgive her mom… but by what I believe about forgiveness, it isn’t something that is for this other person. It’s something for you to come to a sort of indifference to who hurt you, maybe a sadness that they brought themselves to be the way they were. Forgiveness is coming to peace with what you’ve encountered with said person. I think Jennette does forgive her mother in this sense, rather than what everyone wants us to believe about forgiveness… that it’s forgetting.

Why should God forgive her mother?? Her mother put Jennette through hell. It's Jennette's forgiveness that her mother needs to absolve her sins, not God's, and God would know that all the same.
We can just support Janette without involving forgiving her mother in the conversation. It’s Janette’s story and she’s the one who needs the respect and support.

OMG! I cried with this video, her mom dies in 2013. She dedicate this song to her. When I was a child, I listened this song a lot of times, and I thought: if she traveled away to reach her dreams, I can do that too. This song is very inspirational.
I’m watching these videos with such different eyes now. Jennette McCurdy was a major role model of mine (and still is to this day), but after reading her new memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” for the second time and hearing sing about a dream that she didn’t even really wanna chase but did it for her family and to make her mom happy… I don’t know, it just opens such a brighter light now.. I love you Jennette and I hope you are loving the real life that you want to live now. I’ll always be your number one supporter. 💜
Im on page 128 and now I see in her eyes the sorrow. Never even knew this existed. Sam was my favorite and I watched icarly and Loved it and collected everything because I caught an episode while I babysat my best friends 9 year old. I was 36 at the time. Spencer and Sam with the blow dart paint guns. When Sam stood in for Carly at the pageant and tap danced --- she was incredible and I was shocked and those people running that show knew I would be. And I told people. And they started watching it. And then Sam and Cat came on and I STILL loved Sam. I missed Spencer, and I couldnt stand Cat. But then Ariana came out later with 99 Problems and I think she is an incredible singer, Im so sorry Jennette. And I really feel I need to say Thank You because you gave me so much joy. And a lot of difficult times happened to me that you carried me through. You are actually a truly gifted actor for putting on a smile during all of this horror you personally endured. This book is only half read and Im bawling. So if i ever cross paths with you, I will be the one who respects your privacy. I will be the one you dont even know recognized you. i will be the one silently reading every book you ever write on any subject. Because your acting only brought me joy. But your writing has reached down my throat and grabbed my heart. Just : thank you thank you thank you.
Just started to wonder what was up with Ms. McCurdy, so I looked for her. I think I'm just now finding out that she sings & sounds GOOD! Watching in 2020 now. Jennette, I pray you are well. Sending thoughts, prayers, hugs, & positivity your way💜💫💋
I still listen to this song almost every day, it will possibly be the soundtrack of my entire life along with Generation Love. Jennette, I know you don't make music anymore but thank you for making these awesome songs.
After reading this part in the book, I get goosebumps watching this video. When it came out, I was so happy for her. Just tells you, you never know what someone is going through
I remember listening to this song of Jennette’s in high school! It feels so weird listening to it after finding out what her relationship with her mom was really like!
FaitHope I didn't have cable so I didn't get to see iCarly (or Sam and Cat) when they were on. I only knew her as a singer back then. Because she had such a mature voice and her name was Jennette I assumed she was a lot older, too. Then I finally saw her on iCarly and it was just like whoa, huge difference! 😮
@@seasonsstarsstudiosthis comment is kinda heartbreaking with hindsight considering the reason we haven't heard from her has nothing to do with her talent
I just finished reading this part of her book. The fact that she had just found out that her mother's cancer had returned and she didn't even want to go on the tour is haunting. I feel so sorry for her, but happy she now gets to do what she truly wants.
She only did country music because the icarly writers were on a writers block and was told that since she had blonde hair she should do country music. She didn't enjoy doing country music at all. She still likes to sing but not professionally. (She said this in an interview 😂I didn't just make it up)
I believe she said this in a Shane Dawson interview....I think...or its her interview with Pete Holmes. Don't get me wrong, she loves to sing, and no it wasn't just her hair color...that was just one of the contributing factors of doing country music😂 she said she really didn't enjoy it as much as she let on 😂 I'm like writing an essay here so I'm gonna stop 😩😌
+CastMemberLove Jep! She said that because she she got told that she had blonde hair and she could sing so she should do country music. She didn't like it at all. It's in an interview on a podcast on Soundcloud. The interview is with Shane Dawson.
First time seeing this. It’s sad to see now knowing how her mother treated her. She’s a really good singer. I’d like to hear her make a song of how she really feels now.
She has a great voice. I didn't know she could sing until I stumbled upon her music on Spotify. She needs to make another attempt at a country music career. This is more 90s-style country and that's wonderful. I'd love to see her at the Opry.

I love this song! I had no idea that Jennette was such a talented singer! Thank you iCarly, for bringing a spark of happiness to my life and introducing me to two very awesome and talented young women!
I still find this song beautiful for what it could mean to someone in real life, and I think Jenette sounds wonderful. But I’m glad I know the truth after reading her book. A lot of art is made for other people, for better or worse, and that’s as far as it goes.
10 years later and I’m still pissed that they played Miranda’s “Kissin U” at every commercial break and she only got this song played a few times. Nick did her dirty.
Anyone else here immediately after getting to this part of her book?

I'm learnin' the ropes on this crazy road I'm goin' down
I'm makin' my way
No one said that it'd be easy
Trust me believe me
I'm where I belong
Momma I promise I'll be alright
I'll call to say I love you every night
I'm just tryin' to write the story my life
You know all about this dream I gotta chase
I get a little closer everyday
California is not that far away
I'm not that far away
We're miles apart
But you're in my heart
I keep you with me everywhere I go
Momma I promise I'll be alright
I'll call to say I love you every night
I'm just tryin' to write the story my life
You know all about this dream I gotta chase
I get a little closer everyday
California is not that far away
I'm not that far away
I'm not that far away
I'm not that far away
Thank you for the lyrics!
I really wish she'd start singing again. She really is good.
My momma & papa passed away the beginning of the year. & this song brought me to tears. 🥺💛 Thank you.
Sorry for your loss ❤️😓
I’m so sorry
I have a knot in my throat listening to this, knowing what she had to put up with throughout her youth.
Wow didn’t even know she sang! Came here right after reading the book! Great voice I feel so bad for her! Glad she’s free now!
Just started to wonder what was up with Ms. McCurdy, so I looked for her. I think I'm just now finding out that she sings & sounds GOOD! Watching in 2020 now. Jennette, I pray you are well. Sending thoughts, prayers, hugs, & positivity your way💜💫💋
that was so sweet me too
@@teresahaney1400 Hey thank you, Teresa!😊💕
NatureForce37 SHES also an Actor x
@@thxtgirlchlxe4260 Uhhm ... yeah, I know. That's why I said I was just now finding out that she sings and sounds good. Most *actresses* do not.
NatureForce37 Stop being rude.
I still listen to this song almost every day, it will possibly be the soundtrack of my entire life along with Generation Love.
Jennette, I know you don't make music anymore but thank you for making these awesome songs.
She actually has a really great voice and I never realized.
She sings better than a lot of these modern country singers
Yep , she is one of the best singers
The way this always seemed like a sweet song, telling her mom she's off to chase her dreams, but now..... damn.
It sounds like she has been doing this for decades, like an old sounding country singing. Very mature.
After reading this part in the book, I get goosebumps watching this video. When it came out, I was so happy for her. Just tells you, you never know what someone is going through
I was so obsessed with this song when it came out. It hits different now that I’ve read her book.
I love the country vibe in this song!
its a country song....
Me too🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙☎️🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎻🎻🎻🎻😅😅😅😅😅😄😄😄😃😃😃🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😁😁😀😀😍😍
Emily ʕ⁎̯͡⁎ʔ༄ she's a country singer didn't you know that?
I love you're songs
Me to
This kid has such a good voice. She needs to be given far more credit!! Thank you!!♥️♥️
I remember listening to this song of Jennette’s in high school! It feels so weird listening to it after finding out what her relationship with her mom was really like!
Seeing Jennette McCurdy be sweet is so weird to me; I'm so used to seeing her as Sam on iCarly
same
FaitHope this was on my birthday I'm so shocked
FaitHope I didn't have cable so I didn't get to see iCarly (or Sam and Cat) when they were on. I only knew her as a singer back then. Because she had such a mature voice and her name was Jennette I assumed she was a lot older, too. Then I finally saw her on iCarly and it was just like whoa, huge difference! 😮
FaitHope this is clearly why no Nick stars get other good roles in tv shows, sadly
0 1 she has a show on Netflix now, so...
I had no idea this existed until now, and I'm not gonna lie, this is better than almost every single song of the past decade.
Wow! She can actually sing. Surprised we haven't heard more from Jennette.
Alan Peterson that’s because she’s actually talented.

I never knew Jennette could sing this good. She has such a beautiful voice and she's really pretty too.
After reading her book, it makes me sad listening to this. I can’t imagine how she felt being forced to sing this.
I love Jennette McCurdy so much ❤️ She is truly beautiful and a fantastic singer😍
It makes me so sad she was forced to do this because I absolutely loved this song when it came out. I was here for the country music career
This was one of my most favorite Jennette McCurdy songs, but now… wow… just wow.
Hits different now that she came out with her book
her story is really something. i’m so glad she released her book
God bless you. You’re amazing for standing up and doing what’s right! Your fans and friends are with you, all the best!
Jennette deserves more credit inthe music industry. If we spread the word, maybe she'll come back and write more amazing songs.
She only did country music because the icarly writers were on a writers block and was told that since she had blonde hair she should do country music. She didn't enjoy doing country music at all. She still likes to sing but not professionally. (She said this in an interview 😂I didn't just make it up)
+Asha Johnson Oh like bc of Taylor Swift and all that? Jennette is a great singer though :)
+Asha Johnson They decided that she should do country based on her hair color? That makes zero sense...
I was 4 years old when she posted this this song just gives me nostalgia I miss the good days
This made me cry because my mom means the world to me and i miss her ♡ :')
I can't believe the lyrics of this song after reading her book. There is SO much to unpack here... 🥴
This was my favorite song when it came out, can't believe its been almost 8 years already, time does fly.
Just started reading chapter 37 and I ran straight here after the second page to hear this song for myself again
2019 anyone? I love this song 💕

Now I am reading your book in Czech language. It's a very shocking book, I bow to you. 😊 👍🙏 You are singing great. 😊
I cant even believe she sings so good after playing Sam on iCarly.
@caZ galAXy look at date it was before sam i cat
@caZ galAXy no wtf it was 2013 to 2014 search at googles
@caZ galAXy omg chill dude xD
Now that we know the truth, it's pretty evident how dead her eyes are in this mv and how it's not just her being awkward in front of the camera.
I'd love to see her at the Opry.
heavily doubt she ever will :(
I love Jeannette Mcurdy. I really love her acting on icarly and Sam and Cat. She is so Inspirational!
I’m so proud of her cuz she acts so amazing on the shows!👏🏾
me too, she is amazing!
Her Mom made her Do all of that Stuff
Wow, reading the book this song has a completely new meaning
They're playin' guitars with stars their eyes on Broadway
They're just paying their dues
and waitin' for news on a big break
I wish you were here
Cuz sometimes I get lonely
Guess I'm not the only new girl in town

Why do I feel like this is about leaving Icarly
wow watching this music video after reading her memoir gives me goosebumps
I cried after the book and on the song b4 the book I was like ehh it's a good song

WOW! I never knew Jennette McCurdy had a such an angelic voice❤️❤️ such a beautiful girl x
I come from Italy and I don't know anything about american country music. but I can say that she is fantastic
jj
Poor Jennette:( meanwhile, she’s soooo talented. In so many ways.
This is sad. I wanted to hear her music after listening to the book. She's gone through a lot. I hope she enjoy her life now. She deserves it.
It's so sad that this song has a new meaning now :(
Had to use an emoji, it's hella sad.
Chloe Price
that's not an emoji lmao
To Infinity and Beyond it's sad because her mom died

It means different things for different people in all kind of different reasons
Raven Danger navy omg really? 😔😭
Haven’t listened to this song in a long time but flashback to ICarly definitely
holy crap Sam Puckett can sing
Lol ikr
Lol
Lol
Yeah lol
Lol
After reading the book, these songs feel so different
Never before i was listen her voice realy because i'm from México and i'm not an English native speaker. Sounds good and lovely...
So sad that she is singing about her mom in this song. When her actual mother was abusive and manipulative. 😥😥😥
Wow jennette can sing!! She beautiful! And her voice is like an angel ❤️
This song hits different after reading her book. 💔
Miles apart, you're in my-- head. Sheesh, you would never guess. She is a great writer, the book is heart wrenching.
Woah what. Her voice is stunning, and I don't even like country.
i agree!! i just listened to her voice for the first time and i'm stunned!!
I know 😍😍😍😍
