I think you’re the best watercolor channel on RUclips. I think you explain the behaviors of the medium the best. You don’t just show how to do something. You explain the WHY too. And thoroughly show visuals that show each step of what you’re explaining.

I really love blooms, but most artists will tell you to avoid them, not show you how to make them! They really do add interest, texture, and even subtle shading. Personally, I think they're one of the most beautiful aspects of watercolors. If I wanted flat colors, I'd have chosen to learn oil or acrylics, after all. (:

This was so helpful. Most tutorials and classes are speeded up...makes sense when videoing so it's not too long but also means a beginner does not understand how long to wait before adding more paint. How much water to use is also confusing. A very well thought out and executed video. Thank you so much. I love how your paintings are both realistic and yet 'arty'. So many classes are one or the other or even more cartoon/illustrative. I currently have two online teachers (Anna Mason and Paivi Erola) and just started attending night class for water colour but you are definitely one of two on my Patreon wish list. Your Patreon levels are very generous. TFS

I am glad to see this tutorial. I did some blooms long time ago but I didn’t quite understand how I did it. I am trying it now and I could produce a bloom … all of it was due to my paint being so wet. Based on how I understood it now, I had to wait for a few seconds when it’s nearly drying (not dry) based on the comparison you showed. I was doing it while it’s still very wet so I couldn’t produce a bloom. Thanks for this tutorial. Very helpful.
