Wessel Stoop is truly the ideal post-scarcity man who can fully dedicate himself to the arts. No but, like, seriously, how does he play so many instruments so well while also being an indie game developer and a biology nerd?
These are all digital (virtual) instruments. You only have to play keys. Anyhow, the composition, arrangement and production of this music is very nice and well thought!
@@edocasteel There was also an electric double bass and a Cajon. Honestly though you don't need to be a great player to compose great music, with the magic of DAWs you could do almost anything.

I have know idea if this is already possible in the game already but neoteny should be possible. EX: an organism that has an aquatic larval form and a adult land form, should be able to lose the adult form and retain the larval or juvenile aquatic features, and the reverse should be possible. A new species may discard its aquatic form and maintain, the land form
Quick idea, if Venus flytraps are an option for the carnivorous flowers mentioned in the first devlog, I think pitcher plants or other carnivorous flowers could add more variety. Also, squid tentacles would be soooo cooool and would fit so well! Amazing update!👍
@@TheSapling If you do add tentacles, I think you should make them a bit like Serina world of birds tentacled bird tentacles, those work very well and don't look odd with the vertebrate body plan. I feel like natural barriers would be super super interesting, perhaps there could be an island cliff type, or a rafting mechanic so that smaller animals that were pregnant or gravid would have a higher chance of getting rafted to an island they normally wouldn't be able to get to. And larger animals would likely be landlocked or regionlocked based off of certain things, this could slow down all of the animals spreading everywhere in a super cool way and allow for different regions to evolve very differently, and avoid getting certain species wiped out by a more efficient species that maybe lives on another island. I find that usually when I make a world with two different species one of them spreads out everywhere and the other is outcompeted almost every time so maybe giving evolution a chance for them to carve out a nieche before they get outcompeted would be a good game mechanic.

Damn, I can't believe I missed the premier. Regardless I want to offer some ideas in regards to mushrooms. Since you don't want poop, when an animal dies mushrooms can grow from the carcass which aids in restoring nutrients to the soil. Something similar should also occur with plants, with a physical representation of a dead plants that mushrooms can breakdown. Finally, underwater variations of mushrooms and physical representation of flotsam detritus. Since plants originally evolved from marine algae, a large amount of organic material is needed. With the idea being detritus would come in from the oceans, mushrooms would grow from this and introduce minerals into the soil, spreading as they go.
Sorry this isn’t too related to the video, I just had no other idea on where to leave suggestions. I’d just like to suggest an idea I had while playing through the new update, with all the arthropoid abdomens, mouths, and eyes, it feels very odd to lack any sort of arthropoid legs, fins, wings, or other such mobility body parts that are currently lacking in any sort of arthropoid insperation. Additionally, small bug from the beta, something about certain body parts causes a really weird bug, animal models get stuck in the sky when placing, and the organism seems to just… disappear.
This might be a bit random, but it would be cool to see a 'Sappling x Bibites' steam bundle once The Bibites fully releases on Steam. Since you touched on the subject of "competing" with other players in daily challenges, it would be interesting if we could create an ingame profile. With name, photo (create a creature for it), experience, level, that kind of thing. As objectives are achieved in the game modes, we acquire experience and evolve our profile by unlocking rewards, such as music, artwork, wallpapers for the menu home screen, titles, medals and trophies, more customization for profile, cheats for the casual sandbox game mode, perhaps even creature presets made by you or skin textures for creatures, that sort of thing. This profile could have match record tabs according to each mode, recording time played, efficiency, number of life form, etc. This way you establish a greater objective in the game and create a form of comparison between other players. For me, what's missing in the game is this, more objectives, rewards and a less passive way of playing. The fact that you practically just watch the game ends up getting a little tedious over time. I loved the new updates. I can't wait to see the final version.
Moss and lichen colonises rocky terrain and creates topsoil, this then allows plants to grow. This is how rocky islands become verdant. I think this would be great for the game, in terms of inhabiting uninhabitable islands.

Maybe this is already in the simulation and I missed it in the previous videos, but: You could add a feature that allows the users to set up the density of the air. In the Earth, the composition of the gases in our air makes it about 800 times less dense than water, but in another planet air could be incredibly dense, for example it could be double that of the Earth, just 400 times less dense than water. That would make it a bit more difficult for land animals to move through it at high speeds, but at the same time it would make it easier for bigger animals to fly, since more dense air would be pushed under the wings Or, if you want to explore the extremes, you could setup the air to be super dense, about 1/2 or even 3/4 the density of water. That would make it extremely difficult to move on land but would allow certain animals to kinda "swim through the air", so flight would evolve naturally in some fish that would use their fins as wings
Also tried to make land plants and algea compete with eachother in the shallow water which is possibile also thanks to terrain editor which can add land features to water and vice versa probably not intended but found it really interesting:)

I think it would be cool to see burrowing animals in a future update being even smaller than most creatures and would add a lot more way for animals to evolve. I could see a mound being a sign of a burrowing animal and would stay within the said range of the burrow and for water creatures they could be crabs or bobbit worms like that could catch small animals that come too close.
This game now has so many features you should dedicate a while to optimization and refactoring, I'd be very interested in seeing the nitty gritty of how stuff is optimized and refactored
Ok so i LOVE the game like really but i want more camera types oike free cam or smth because the camera is so weird and glitchy so free cam would be a good fix also id like to have lil arms which can build stuff on the creatures like lets say i have human ish arms can build a little home or smth oh and caves would be a good idea ngl
OK Mr Sapling Dev I totally rescind my previous comment. This is some of the best nature game design I've ever seen, and the scope / variety you're trying to fit in is really comprehensive. As far as making the sandbox creator less overwhelming - could the part selector be something other than a tree? Could tree be an alternate, fullscreen view to track progress in regular gameplay, then in the sandbox parts are selected from a matrix or dropdown list or something?
My main concern is the performance of the game, it can turn into slog in 10000 years. I hope you manage to improve it! Edit: holy hell, he read our minds! Thank you!
sapling when u gonna make lag not destroy every game after half a hour or less I could have everything as efficientlly optimised but it still lags and crashes especially the meteorite just lags freezers or crashes the game
I would love to see a map of the planet with where a species exists when viewing that species info page. Would really help see exactly where one species evolved to live vs others in the same family.
"Acceptable framerates" say no more, it's all I've ever wanted 🤯😍🥹🥳 Seriously though, everything you've shown from this update looks exciting and fun to play with, but the improvements to optimization are definitely the biggest and most impressive part to me. I'm lucky enough to be getting a new and better gaming laptop soon, but the fact that a game this complex runs (or even just walks) at all on my current shitty, busted up hand-me-down laptop is already a feat. I hope that this upgrade will mean that more people who don't have access to really good computers can play and enjoy this game, without the frustration of one of the main modes being borderline unplayable at times. Can't wait to get my grubby little paws on that beta branch on October 31st!
I've bingewatched all the devlog seasons and all the evolution simulated in the last couple of days. I fell in love with the game immediately but first felt it lacked depth. This update however adds so much that I'm now convinced to buy the game. Thank you for that! Do you think that land animals evolving from fish favor bipedalism is now not the case anymore due to the new weight system or will that still be the case?
Im new and I have some question: 1. Can I set if a carnivore lonely or pack hunter? 2. Can I set the size of a pack befor the kick out an individual to make their own pack? 3. Can 2 animal from the same specie fight with eachother?

-ability to change glow color (and maybe an instinct for light colors)
-ability to change eye color
-ability to make different parts of the animal different colors (like different leg color or parts of the body)

-ability to change the amount of rocks present on the world in the world editor

Ok so i LOVE the game like really but i want more camera types oike free cam or smth because the camera is so weird and glitchy so free cam would be a good fix also id like to have lil arms which can build stuff on the creatures like lets say i have human ish arms can build a little home or smth oh and caves would be a good idea ngl
Oh and this game is VERY laggy and crashes a LOT so has anyone got any fixes
OK Mr Sapling Dev I totally rescind my previous comment. This is some of the best nature game design I've ever seen, and the scope / variety you're trying to fit in is really comprehensive.
As far as making the sandbox creator less overwhelming - could the part selector be something other than a tree? Could tree be an alternate, fullscreen view to track progress in regular gameplay, then in the sandbox parts are selected from a matrix or dropdown list or something?
No, the tree works well enough
Hey, thanks for your input, much appreciated!
My main concern is the performance of the game, it can turn into slog in 10000 years. I hope you manage to improve it!
Edit: holy hell, he read our minds! Thank you!
I may be finally run this game with more than 10 fps on avrage after the update🙏🙏🙏🙏 keep up the work🏆🏆🏆
sapling when u gonna make lag not destroy every game after half a hour or less I could have everything as efficientlly optimised but it still lags and crashes especially the meteorite just lags freezers or crashes the game
You should add territories or smth like that
I would love to see a map of the planet with where a species exists when viewing that species info page. Would really help see exactly where one species evolved to live vs others in the same family.
I think it would be a good idea for when making the world that you can have a tool to build land and take land to build terrain that you like :)
"Acceptable framerates" say no more, it's all I've ever wanted 🤯😍🥹🥳
Seriously though, everything you've shown from this update looks exciting and fun to play with, but the improvements to optimization are definitely the biggest and most impressive part to me.
You should add a cave world option?
I've been playing for a bit and wanna ask do you plan on adding caves to the game?
If you said it in one of your devlogs I may have forgotten
Not sure yet, but I like the idea!
Amazing work man!
Cool
PERMA DEATH??? DEEpWOKEN!!!!!1!1!1
Im new and I have some question:
1. Can I set if a carnivore lonely or pack hunter?
2. Can I set the size of a pack befor the kick out an individual to make their own pack?
3. Can 2 animal from the same specie fight with eachother?
There a no pack behaviors
@@Leyva0scarVRL Ohh dang
