You can actually see the writer's hand in this scene in the hospital with Roxie and Hawk trashing Kyle (and H.B. just standing there not even defending him). The mandate has come down...we are bringing Robert Newman back....we must make Kyle (an unearned) villain so we can have our hero come back into Reva's life. Character assisination at its finest....ironically revisted on Kyle's son Ben years later.
BINGO --- you nailed it! I was so pissed off about it, I left the show when Kyle was written off. (I eventually came back - but man I was DONE). I really wish I knew all the behind the scenes drama around Larkin's departure and Robert coming back. The chemistry between Larkin and Kim was fantastic and Kyle and Reva were hot topics back in 85 & 86. The HYPE was there. I always suspected that Robert was desperate to get back to GL to prevent any solidity to the Kyle/Reva Relationship. His earlier mark on the show was being forgotten. Anybody who argues that Kyle was a nobody and Josh was everything - is coming from a place that watched GL AFTER 1986 and applying JEVA'S future history (15+ yrs) to the past (2) Kyle/Reva years. Josh and Reva had very little history together up until 1985. Kim joined GL Nov 83 & Robert Left Nov 84. Their relationship was NOT MATURE at that point. One could argue it never was mature because they constantly fought or tore each other down IMO. (I always liked the two characters with different partners throughout the series). Josh, Alan & Roger all left the show and Kyle was a strong mix of all 3. Kyle could be as ruthless as Roger, Business Savvy as Alan and Kyle was more Romantic then all 3 combined. Even Kim Zimmer writes in her book that Larkin was her most Romantic scene partner. I loved that summer of 84 with Josh & Reva. It was powerful, TOXIC and full of drama, but when Kyle blew into town Mysteriously with a vendetta against the Lewis' and Reva actually took Kyle's tough exterior, broke through the walls - to humanize Kyle - I forgot all about Josh & Reva. Still think Reva's best character developing years was 1985/86 where she hit rock bottom, came back independently living, with a career all with Kyle cheering her on. Writing to me was top notch in 1985 - fell dramatically by end of 1986. Larkin had a year left on his contract and got out of it early. He landed on AMC opposite Susan Lucci (which I could not stomach to watch), but really think there was more to his leaving than the prospect of AMC. Still sour that GL never wrote him back into the storyline years later.
@@sampsongirl And ironically enough the whole JEVA thing actually ruined the character of Josh. Before Reva came on he was such a delicious bad boy type villain (not evil but just a cad really) and I actually LOVED him with Morgan when he finally stole her away from boring Kelly. Once he left and came back anchored to Reva all the way up to the last show his character and Robert Newman were just an appendage to Reva and Kim. All the times they split them up over the year I kept hoping Kyle would come out of the coma they left him in and return and made even juicier that with all the shennanigans around the tampering with Marah's paternity...Kyle really was her father. That would have been a grand return for Larkin Malloy but nope let's give Reva castaway doc, island king, island king lookalike, god help us Buzz Cooper, Alan and yet never a returned Kyle!
@@sampsongirlTotally agree...I felt and acted exactly the same way back in the days. Larkin and Kim delivered a timeless, 100% believable performance that still captivates me after all those years. The acting, writing, their theme.....a perfect symbiosis...especially in 1985 ! BTW loved the whole cast during that time. Do you have anything else left in your magic hat ?
I have a few more scenes on one or two tapes left to convert and then I'm done with the Kyle/Reva years. I have a huge box of tapes that contain some of the Annie years; Richard/Reva timeframe & Jonathan years that I'm not sure when I'll have the energy to convert - LOL. My priority was to get this period done because I knew I had some fillers to the already posted stuff on RUclips for 85/86 & it was my favorite GL Couple. Now if by some miracle my cousin saved tapes from this time-frame (she was a huge Kyle/Reva fan too) and I get my hands on her collection - I may pull something out of that magic hat - but not too optimistic! It has been such a fun ride down memory lane with this storyline and era of GL.@@LarKim-tc9cq
@@sampsongirl In this case fingers crossed. 1985 had sooo much good stuff to offer ! Some scenes pop into my mind based on the already posted videos over the years. For example when Kyle confesses his love to Reva right after he moved into her old appartment. A really intense written episode and performance that led to an even more intense kiss. Since you inspired me, I've decided to check my basement.
I hated that the Springfield folks let Maeve completely off the hook and shamed Kyle. I hated that Maeve didn’t crawl and hide under a large rock when the truth came out. Shameful. And I’m not overjoyed that Josh is back. As much as I adore him and Reva, I would’ve been happy with a delay in Josh’s return to get a 3rd Kyle-Reva reunion. 😭💕
Not gonna lie but I tried watching GL from this time period and it’s really not that great. Too much focus on the Lewises, and Reva, and not really a fan of Kyle.
Kyle loved Reva more than Josh did. Don't get me wrong, I love Josh and Reva, but I'm wondering if Kyle stuck around would I still love Josh and Reva together. Kyle was always Reva's biggest supporter. Never heard him call her trailer trash (like Josh did) or throw in her face about her letting a man touch her for a piece of pie (like Josh did) I wish they would have brought Kyle back because that would have made a great love triangle because Reva really loved Kyle and I guess she really loved Josh too. I mean so what if Kyle kidnapped a baby...that's just a small misdemeanor in Soap Opera World.
Kyle didn't kidnap a baby either. He took the baby out of Maeve's hands and handed it over to the Court system- and at the time Maeve was mentally ill. What he didn't realize was the baby he took from Maeve was actually his, as Maeve lied and deceived him - making him think their baby died. It was quite the crappy storyline back in the day. All Kyle's actions towards the end was not in line to the character GL developed him to be over the last 2 years. They made Kyle the bad guy and somehow Maeve got a pass with all her lies and deceit. They really tried to turn the audience against Kyle - when for the last 2 years he held Reva on a pedestal. I guess anything to make Josh look like a hero coming in to the rescue. Anyways...Kyle's ending on the show was terrible and really upset a strong fanbase at the time.
I loved Reva and Kyle together. The chemistry between Larkin and Kim was incredible. I enjoyed watching it all. I loved Reva and Josh too but the way they handled Kyle at the end was terrible.

It wouldn't had made a difference Josh was the love of reva life.
First scenes approx airdate November 10th. Starting at 1:55, scenes aired November 11th, 1986
Billy, "Here to get Kyle." He said it so matter of factly. Wow, never saw the whole scene with Roxie and Kyle.
I stopped watching the show at this point. I won’t even watch these last scenes. I’m just here for the comments lol

Reva and Josh were the ordeal couple through thick and thin nothing could over achieve their love for each other ❤️.
