இந்த முறையில் நாம் மேற்கூரை அமைக்கும் போது வீட்டின் உட்புறம் வெப்பம் குறைவாக இருக்கும்.
அச்சுக்கள் என்பது மிகச் சிறிய அளவிலான ஒரு செங்கல். முதலில் துலா கட்டை மூலம் கூரையின் மேற்பகுதியில் பீம் போன்ற அமைப்புகளில் தேக்கு மர துலாக்கட்டைகளை வைக்க வேண்டும். வீட்டின் ஒரு மூலையில் இருந்து குறுக்கு வெட்டாக அச்சுக்கல்ளை குத்துக்கல் முறையில் கட்டி வர வேண்டும். இந்த கட்டுமானத்திற்கான கலவையில் மணல், சுண்ணாம்பு, கருப்பட்டி, கடுக்காய் போன்றவற்றை பயன்படுத்துகின்றனர். குத்து வரி முடிந்த பின்பு அதன் மேல் பட்டை வரியில் கட்ட வேண்டும். இரண்டு அடுக்குகளும் முடிந்த பின்பு கருப்பட்டி, சுண்ணாம்பு, ஜாக்ரி, கலந்த கூழ் போன்ற வடிவில் உள்ள திரவத்தை மேலே ஊற்றி மட்டமாக மொழுகி விட வேண்டும், பின்பு பதினைந்து நாள் இடைவேளை விட்டு இதற்கு மேல் சுருக்கி போட வேண்டும்.

The Madras terrace roofing / கட்டை குத்து முறை is a traditional roof building technique using handmade ‘achikal’ brick, wood and lime plaster. The word ‘achi’ regionally means ‘half’ therefore this locally produced ‘achikal’ brick is essentially a half brick, in terms of thickness.
The system is commonly used for small spans, where wooden beams are laid at intervals of less than 45 cm. The next layer consists of masonry laid on edge, across in a diagonal fashion, held together with lime plaster. The design is an interpretation of basic traditional architectural patterns to suit modern needs, while searching for a ‘timeless’ architecture which is beyond the ‘new’ and ‘inventive’.
