I don't know the last time I was able to sit through an hour long lecture completely mesmerised. Great talk, really makes me wish I was a student again.
Always amazing to watch this man speak, including in documentaries and such. He always has a big smile on his face when he talks about this stuff. You can tell he really enjoys what he does.
I love this scientist. This dude is so happy to talk about what he loves that he always has this big grin on his face. Some men just want to watch the world to learn.
The Andrea Ghez time lapse movie for the "Sagittarius A Star" Supermassive Black Hole at the center of the Milky Way is AWESOME. The Stars, some of which are many times larger than our own Sun, are moving at thousands of kilometers per hour through space in their respective orbits, it's mind-blowing. Everyone even slightly interested in that sort of thing should go to either her or the UCLA Astronomy Department website and watch it. www.astro.ucla.edu/~ghezgroup/gc/animations.html (There are tons of versions available on RUclips also but the version on the Website is the most recent/up-to-date and complete.)
56:58 give me a call I'm there! unfortunately I'm stuck in UK working for cashconverters :\ Also Can give Alex 10 or so of these please Albert Einstein World Award of Science, Nobel Prize, and the Alex Filippenko award for outstanding enthusiasm and inspiration to space science : )thank you
Do you really think that the scale factor of the universe is increasing proportionally to time when the average density is zero? See at 18:04. I have no idea how this follows Friedmann's theory developed in 1922.
Infinity is true as a concept even though it's not a physical reality. We know the physical universe was made to be what it is because most (if not all) of the common elements are essential and beneficial directed working parts inside and outside of every living organism.
You can't measure time, around a black hole, by our time that's relative to our position in the universe and you also can't accurately calculate the age of the universe because there is no absolute measure of time or distance in the universe.
Alex, you seem to be the type of professor that either engages students, or not. I am engaged! Howcan I notbe with your passion for this material?!

It's great to see companies funding cutting edge science!

If you ever get a chance watch Filippenko's video lecture series - one of the most fascinating series of lectures I have ever watched.
I like this guy's attitude.

Concepts are not true or false; statements are true or false. "Infinity is true" does not make sense.

Can you escape your position in the universe where it is right now?
Jungle Jargon wow your so smart

You can't know the distance to a black hole because of the dilation of time and distance.
You didn't prove anything so you can't tell me anything.
life is shit ain't it ,we all older, forget the space choc, pengu gonna have pass on that drop app!e o f his soon enough.
