Great video as always! Found the Arnaldo-Caprai Sagrantino 2000 today in a small wineshop and bought a bottle after watching your video. Hope it's still in its drinking window.
@@drmatthewhorkey it is!!!!! We had a little bit of trouble with the cork due to bad equipment but the wine is phenomenal.Thank you for the recommendation.
Rocca Di Fabbri is worth a visit. We visited this winery 4 years ago (together with Arnaldo Caprai). Had a great tasting there and bought some bottles afterwards. I think the Montefalco Rosso was only €7or 8/bottle. What a bargain it was.
Amazing how close they all were. What a selection. I said in my previous comment that Caprai and Antonelli are the big guns and I meant that in a good way. Antonelli, particularly, are releasing very interesting wine for those with an open mind. I have a couple of bottles of single vineyard Sagrantino stuff which I bought in Assisi (incredible place) a few years back. I'm saving them for a great Italian meal only. Those are heavy Sagrantino. Caprai are the great blenders but without any 'smoothness.' This is fantastic Umbrian wine but regular folk need to open their minds and palates. I've described it before as having inky and earthy mushroom elements. Excellent with food. WT
@@drmatthewhorkey oh ok that makes sense. I think they made up a nickname for the guy starting from "serpe/serpente" (=snake) using a central/southern italian pattern (the -ullo ending). But as such the word doesn't exist in Italian. Great video anyway!

Always enjoy the descriptor words you use for the tastings, really helpful!😊
Wow thanks I’m trying to get better w them!
Great video, as always!! Hope to meet you in one of the next Montefalco Anteprima! :)

Hope to see you there next year!

Very good descriptions! Those are two of the big guns for sure but there are plenty of good producers in the region
I enjoyed.. I need to buy some of these beauties!
Enjoy them when you do
Fongoli is incredible nowadays, i'd imagine this to be very difficult to find in USA
It is but worth the hunt!
I love Sagrantino! It makes some powerful wines that can rival Tuscan wines.
The wines can definitely be big!
50% alcohol? How does that convert as to say by volume
15% not 50
Thanks for clarifying, thought that was extremely high! Btw has anyone told you you look and have the mannerisms of Robert Dinero?
When will you be doing a Ribollia Gialla tasting? USA vs Italy.
I love the grape and lots of older videos on the channel about it.
Serpullo means serpent? I don’t think so :)
That is what the family told me, it was the nickname of a former employee there

Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore 2019 ... better than sassicaia
You’ll see it in a future video 😉
