Thanks for the review, I bought this Onkyo together with the klipsch rp 600m ii. I can't wait for them to get home. I chose this amplifier because they have a certification for klipsch speakers.
Does yours humm? I just hooked mine up and I'm guessing the power supply has a humm that during dead quiet scenes you can hear the humming which my pioneer elite never did it was silent. I like the receiver but haaaate the humm. Thanks!
I need to know how to actually make the connections properly. I can’t seem to find any information on what goes from the tv to the onkyo and where exactly?
Hi Jiles.. I am planning on buying my first home theatre system to go with AWOL 132 inch screen and AWOL 3000 PRO short throw projector. I like Klipsch from its reviews by you and others, and below are the speakers I am thinking to buy: 5.1.2 configuration Two R-820F floor standing One R-34C center Two R-51M surround Two R-41SA Dolby atmos One R-120SW Will Onkyo TX NR 5100 be able to support these speakers? I don’t think I will ever get near 100 db. But may sometimes 70-80 db at the max. Appreciate your insight and thank you making these videos.
I just bought the Onkyo THX Atmos receiver or TX696 for $349 on Amazon. Plus got $100 Off from the Prime Visa card deal, 5% back on All purchases too. Got it April 5, need to set it up tomorrow. Good for 4 Ohm speakers 160-210 Watts per channel
@@JilesMcCoy was many months of researching and back and forth, wanted a Denon but this was Best Deal Ever. Should be better than the AVR1700X Denon too
Having issues with eArc on this model with a SonyTV. It just constantly switches back and forth between tv speakers and audio speakers. It's not the TV as it worked fine with other receivers. Too bad cuz it sounds pretty good for music but obviously can't keep it without a fix
Bought 2 different onkyo’s in the past. They only lasted about 5 years each. I take good care of equipment too. My brother has a JVC from like 15 years ago, which is when I bought my first onkyo. His JVC is still running great at a much cheaper price. His always sounded better and had more power. I actually stopped buying A/V receivers because of this. If I could pick up a used JVC like his, I’d probably pick it up. Onkyo let me down twice. Huge let down, I loved my Onkyo.
You mean your brother's JVC was purchased before HDMI boards. That's the difference. It's the HDMI boards that over heat on all brands. They all had this problem but the Onkyo response to it was mismanaged by the company that first bought them out. I have two Onkyo receivers still operating since 1991.
My Onkyo HTR494 lasted 4 years and developed a HDMI board issue all of a sudden. I really feel suspicious towards Onkyo now...have they improved the quality of the material used? Judging by the looks of rear spring type connections they didnt...
@@mauriciomascheroni543 it’s funny how some get kinda butt hurt cause there brand sucks lol I’ve had the chance to ask many about onkyo, yeah never again for me. OMG. I have a DRX-3 that used to play 4k and 1080p perfectly, now I just get a blue screen of death :-(. It's 3 years old. I've been such an Onkyo fan for over three decades. Didn't realize about the HDMI board issue. It's a frickin plague that will bring down the brand.
My sound modes are not available and i can’t figure out why. I’ve played around with different features and I’m sure that has something to do with it but I can’t figure out what. Any suggestions would help
I’ve had two Onkyo’s and horrible experiences with both. From faulty HDMI Boards to faulty amplifiers, was a complete headache. Hopefully their quality has improved.
The thing is nothing is ever perfect. I have had excellent experiences with devices from companies where other had terrible experiences. On the other hand, I've also had the exact opposite experiences where others had wonderful experiences. It's just the way it goes. That being said, I had the HDMI board problem. Onky was easy to reach, sent me a box with prepaid postage and fixed it for free. It wasn't Onkyo's fault here. Their supplier sent them some bad units.
I love Onkyo, got a powerhouse integrated amp in the shed, literally the most powerful integrated I've ever had and got a normal av onkyo to,funnily enough the front panel looks very similar to this and its 10 years, sr 607, so they must share some components, defo the case,I've got the same remote,I just wish it had e arc. This has an awful cheap looking back panel
Onkyo AVRs sound like garbage. Through the years Marantz, Denon, HK, NAD, Pioneer and Yamaha all sound better. Whenever I’ve listened to and demoed an Onkyo AVR in the real world I found that they sound extremely thin and weak with no depth or width in sound field and soundstage. Maybe they should spend less on a laundry list of features, and more on the basics in the amp and preamp sections. Only reason these dogs sell is because of all the “features” they have stamped on the box.
George Lucas didn't feel that way in 1991 when he 1st heard the Onkyo Integra 909 and was so impressed he approached Onkyo asking them to create the 1st THX certified AV receiver - the 919. I owned both of those receivers as well as the 939, the 906, the 636, and the 5009. I also owned the Onkyo Integra 504, the 809 Integrated amp, as well as the p-304 pre-amp and their 6 disc cd player. There were no dogs. The sound quality was quite the opposite of what you described. I have also owned Denon, Pioneer. and Marantz Avr's during the last 50 years. I preferred Onkyo. I'll take my 50 years of experience with the actual products in my home as opposed to your "real world" demos, whatever that means.
I just had a chance to compare the sound from new Denon AVR-X1700H (Tidal on HEOS) and an 15 years old Onkyo TX-SR501 sourced by Chromecast Audio connected via optical cable (Tidal on mobile redirected to Chromecast Audio). Front speakers switched back and forth between those two amps to compare. 15 years old Onkyo beat new Denon hands down. Crisp, dynamic, engaging music vs muddy, flat and uninspiring sound.

Does the 5100 have hdmi 2.1 so I can game at 4k120 ?
Should be listed in the website specs.
Is it able to play 3D Movies to 3D TV ?
If not, what the similar model can do that ?
Thanks

What would the internet be used for on this receiver ?!?

been years since i bought a new receiver, bought the Onkyo 6100. Sounds good, but all the button pressing to get to that point is very annoying.
Hopefully its treating you well now that you have it dialed in.
A year later, it seems Onkyo heard literally everybody complaining about the spring clips and now they come with binding posts.
