My grandmother and great grandfather were there that day and helped with the rescue. His name is Arthur Smith and often mentioned in this story.

Me: "Anybody ever swim in that creek back there?"
    The Locals: "Hell no."

Possibly, although I didn't think so when I filmed it.

    I want a drone.

I love mine, they're a lot o fun. If you get one though make sure you learn the rules of the road (skies) and do your TRUST certificate, register your drone and fly within the FAA regulations. Drones are not toys and are treated as aircraft along with penalties if you don't abide.

Thanks for documenting the actual site at extreme low tide. Too many other videos focus on the stupid shark jaw graffiti that's on the wrong side of the bridge for click-bait. The body was found near the pilings and ruins of the old bridge. It's also where the second attack on Stanley Fisher happened.

Thanks for the kind words. I've lived in the area my entire life and was really curious about the actual spot it happened. Unfortunately my drone gave me a motor area so I wasn't as bold about flying but I did manage to get a look at what's left of the dock and the old RR bridge pylons that still stand. I'd like to go back there but it's private property along the water. Another interesting thing, when I was younger I remember my father taking me down to the highlands to see old man Cottrell, I'm assuming he was the son of the fisherman that warned the town to no avail about the shark he'd seen. They had a lobster business in the 80's, we'd buy bugs from them directly.

@@robwasnj - Great story. I grew up in Cape May County, NJ in the 1960s and 70s. This story wasn't really local news to us, but we were aware of it. I saw the original Jaws in 1975 when it came out and I've been researching this Matawan attack off and on for years.

I'm going to try and not be snide. The shark image IS NOT on the wrong side of the bridge, it's a visual warning telling you that you are coming to "the spot". You never see "Danger! Minefield!" signs on the INSIDE of a minefield do you?

@@Surprise_Inspection That makes sense to me, although the warming came a few decades too late unfortunately. The whole story is just insane how Cottrell SAW the shark and warned people who thought he was crazy. How someone would think a shark was coming up river to eat people is beyond me but I guess he knew those waters well.
