  • Assembly video for the Taig 5019CR (CNC Ready Mill)
In this video I take you through the basic assembly of the mill, provide tips that worked for me in assembling the machine. I show you how I dialed in the accuracy of the X Y and Z axis using dial indicators. I showed how you can use a saunders machine works product as a mirror in a pinch :). I connect the motors, wire up the controls and test the mill.
I accept no liability for any damage you do to yourself or your machine. Do your research, use your common sense. This shows I assembled my machine and what worked for me. your mileage may vary

Really helpful video for this new owner of a TAIG 5019DSLS Micro Mill. Especially helpful for me was the bit about how to install the step motors on this machine. Thanks for that!

I look forward to more videos of you using this !
I recently purchased an older taig cnc mill
I'm getting used to fusion 360 but the mach3 has me puzzled lol, luckily though there are a lot of good videos on youtube to learn from

With any luck this weekend I’m gonna run a whole bunch of feed and speed tests on aluminum and maybe delrin and post the results so keep your eyes peeled and maybe that will help us both learn how to use this little machine :)

Great Video, thanks for sharing. Im also based in the UK so great to find other UK Taig users online. Can I ask where did you purchase the Gecko G540 CNC Controller from and is it 110V or 240V power supply? And finally how have you found the size of Steppers you chose? Im in the same position as you would have been so would be great to get you feedback? Oh sorry finally finally what was the little Purple interface block you fitted? Cheers in advance. Bobby🙏

Really good video. I just got a 5019CR and this very much hit the spot.
One question - is there a reason you flushed the end of the motor shaft to the coupling? Given that it was too long why not push the shaft in farther? Especially with the D-cut ends this seems to me to be more stable.
Update: Ah, never mind I just did the first coupling and yes any longer and the shaft might hit the ballscrew.
I do think the sequence for me was...
    a) screw the tube clockwise all the way then unscrew it until the two couplings are 1/16" apart when you push the motor+coupling against the ballscrew coupling
    b) somewhat tighten the tube. The setscrew on the collar pushes against the tube to pull it tight, not against the ballscrew assembly like a setscrew (oops).
    c) insert the straws with slightly pointed ends into the ballscrew coupling pointed ends towards the motor
    d) push the motor towards the ballscrew engaging the straws
    e) tighten everything up.

I should have mentioned that in the video! It took me a while to get the motor the correct length away from the ball screw etc. thank you for posting this, I have no doubt someone will find it very useful !

Great videos! Question: how heavy is this thing? I'm looking at getting one, but I'd need to be able to move it from bench to storage shelf easily to conserve space.

It’s heavy and awkward but you can lift it. I’d recommend two people but I’ve lifted it myself and I’m not exactly Arnold Schwarzenegger

I think watching this video may have put me off buying one of these... this machines ability to stay in tram depends on only one screw that if you overtighten will distort the frame. It doesn't seem very sturdy to me. I have had the experience in the past with a light milling machine with a non box section column that would constantly go out of alignment with even light 20 thou cuts.... with this thing only holding on with one screw I can really see what's stopping it. Otherwise it looks like a well built little machine.

Ok, I've just watched your next video and I see you have had that very problem. I suspect you will have this problem over time even when you aren't pushing it. Things that are held with only one screw have an amazing ability to drift.

The coluem has a piece of machined steel in the base that keeps you from distorting the coleum, the do not go out of alignment unless you drop it off the table, they are a very well designed and over built machine and very accurate,I had a sherline mill and it was very prone to chattering because of the aluminum they use is not stiff enough for a mill

You aren’t wrong. My plan was to drop a keyway in to force the column to stay aligned as I had that slippage happen one too many times. I never got round to it however.
