    Awesome video.. love the bit about making the autoswap files. We often get asked about that. Great production and nice tunes in the background. Glad you liked the little extras I threw in the Jiffybag!

      Yes I was wondering about it once myself, it had to be cleared up on how to do it. And indeed, I appreciate the little extras ;o)

    Nice tutorial, thank you. My SD2IEC should be in my mailbox tomorrow or so, and this was very helpful. I only recently got myself a real C64 (after just playing on emulators since like forever) and now I'm founding these small but wonderful channels like this on youtube. Subbed and fast. :)

    Keep up the great work! The C64 was the best selling computer in the 80s. I am also devoted to this amazing computer on my channel. You have so much passion for the system as well as other 8-bit computers according to your video list.

    I just got it...the Pond logo looks similar to the Ocean logo, but being a much smaller software company they went with Pond. Clever! I totally agree with you in loving that people are still making games, demos, and other software, plus hardware mods, for these computers that came out over 30 years ago, and continuing to push the limits of what they can do.

    your games directory title had characters for the first letters of both words because you capitalized them. Back to the pc and rename all in small. I'm sure you've figured this out by now. This info is for your subscribers who may not know. Great video!

  • @andrewgreen1970
    @andrewgreen1970 2 месяца назад

    It is my understanding that C64 has its own control codes for characters but those for the lowercase characters match those on the ASCII chart that we all are used to. This would certainly explain the problem with the uppercase characters. Code 77 is for '\' and 71 is for '|' (the vertical pipe).

    Great video, nice to see the good ol' 64 again. :) It's "\ADDI |AMES" because your M and G are uppercase and the file browser is using the "uppercase and graphics" display mode (known as PETSCII) instead of "uppercase and lowercase".

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  7 лет назад +2

      \ADDI |AMES issue just occured to me when editing haha. Thanks for the explanation though, I dont quite know the C64 as well as I know my beloved Amiga

    nice to see you cover the C64 as well (I've seen you cover some Amiga) - the reason why some of your folders/games look 'weird' (like \ADDI AMES), is because the folder was created using a different OS than the C64 and the person typing used capital letters, which on the C64 translates to PETSCII, which is the reason some games and such have PETSCII-characters rather than text; simply type the entire folder-name/program-name in small letters and all will be fine

  • @GregDaniel78

    Thought I would add to what Maddi said. The format command on Windows 10 *no longer supports FAT16 or FAT32*. You will need to find a 3rd party program to prepare your USBs or CF cards. After failing to prep my GOTEK for my A1200 I didn't see Winblows had sneakily created an exFAT volume.

    When you spoke about the lack of new Amiga games, I couldn't help but to think about GUNLORD. It's not an Amiga game per se, but it's a love letter to the Turrican series, so in spirit it's pretty close to being an Amiga game ^_^
    Have you played it? It's a really kickass new game, I think you might like it. It is available for the Dreamcast and Neo Geo.

    Thanks for making this video! I've been trying to get John Madden Football to work on my Commodore 64 + SD2IEC and now I can finally get it to work.
    EDIT: Well I can at least get to the loading screen where it says "John Madden Football." Still having trouble actually playing the game. Maybe I need to load the second disk even though it hasn't prompted me to do so?

    I have a device like your SD2IEC for myself and I really like it, because I don't have to care about old and maybe broken floppy disks with it. A 1541 drive is here as well, but rarely used to be honest. :o

      @MsMadLemon  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you! SD2IEC is great and convenient. But I still use floppies (and cassettes) every now and then, because it's nice to relive how we used to live back in the day. You get that itch to use the older media sometimes ;o)

    • @amimasteronline4675
      @amimasteronline4675 7 лет назад

      Yes, it did, pretty often actually :o I have a lot of broken old dusty floppy disks lying around here... both my drives 1541 (original version) and 1541-II can't read these disks even after cleaning the mechanism and read/write heads in them serveral times, so defenitely the disks are to blame and not the drives :o

    Nice video, How are you connecting your C64 to TV? I think your C64's video output could possibly use a 330 ohm resistor on the Chrominance input to fix the checkerboard effect, failing that the Lumafix might sort it and also deal with the issue of vertical lines, also notice some scrolling "interference" which could be possibly coming from your PSU.

    • @MsMadLemon

    The text glitches in fb64.prg are petscii. In other words they are capitalized. If you chuck your sd back in you PC and rename everything lowercase? Then you are gold. Just make sure all your files are lower-case on the PC side.

    It seems to me that the CD-RW drive would be the replacement for the datassette. Imagine burning a sequence of programs on a track and IDK how many tracks you can burn on a CD but that would be like disk/cassette swapping. You could just flip thru tracks, then type LOAD and press play on the CD-player. I guess by today's standards even 70 minutes of audio would not be much thsese days. I believe there DVD-Audio discs hold ~511 minutes but in mono it may be much more. The only reason I've bringing up discs is because I find flash memory media quite unstable in the past.

    Great video! I think it sold me on the SD2IEC. Does it give you any feedback on what disc in the swap list you're using if you lose track of it while playing, say, Ultima V with its 5 discs?

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  7 лет назад +1

      As far as I know it doesnt give you feedback besides the LEDs but this is just my guess. i've only tried it once with multiple disks and it's just as it is in the video. it might be an idea contacting The future was 8 bit and asking them.

    Too much hassle to change disks with the SD2IEC. What I did was find D81 versions of most (if not all) D64 multidisk games. So only one D81 instead of multiple D64s. Anyway, mostly stopped using my SD2IEC after I got my Turbo Chameleon 64V2s. I know Ms Mad Lemon has a 1541 Ultimate II+ now, so I assume she is mostly using that one now.

    i brought a one of these: www.thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/commodore/iec-y-cable-splitter-daisy-chain-disk-drive-printer-port.html Its great especially when u want to write d64s to your real 1541 through say CBMcommand. Slight annoyance when u want to use them together u have to write in a command to tell the c64 to load ya progs off a different drive (say 9). Highly recommend it though. Just wished they made a splitter with a switch? Great video as always.

    Very nice video! Amiga is great, but it's cool to see you do C64 stuff! I've long known about the SD2IEC, and knew that it was a device that would "run most things". But I've never seen an in depth explanation of how it works, so this was very interesting. Seems quite capable!
    And I love trying to figure out the background music before you "give it away" at the end, hehe.. :o) I got most, except for "Golden Axe". Plus, I forgot what your own piece in the beginning was called. The CD32 music from Fire and Ice (from your last video) made my iTunes collection. I love that bass-y beginning. Groovy as f.. hell.. :o) Oh, my favorite mix of "The Great Bath", is this. Maybe you'd like it as well. :o) www.remix64.com/track/x-formz/the-great-bath-turrican-2/ .. blah blah blah, I'm done, lol.. :o)

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you! I think me and C64 stuff is way overdue, I got stuff piling up which need to be done haha, It is more capable than I thought because I searched forums and saw in a couple of places that its not possible to load multi disk games on the SD2IEC. I realise now that you can.
      When i first heard the Golden Axe one, I liked it but had no idea it was from Golden Axe. I think i've only played that twice lol
      The CD32 underwater Fire and ice is excellent, that bass sounds so 80s, in fact the entire track does.It's the bass which I really like on it too.
      That is a nice version of The Great Bath, i've come across it before. This song must have been remixed the most, there are a ton of remixes of it on the site lol... My favourite one is by D.A Wilson the blue sky remix: www.remix64.com/track/d-a-wilson/the-great-bath-blue-sky-remix-hq-encoded/

    • @CasualCommodore
      @CasualCommodore 7 лет назад +1

      I always thought SD2IECs limitations lied with the occasional weird disk structures, and not multi disks. But then again, I haven't been reading up on it too much. :o) Btw, if the SD2IEC can load up the title screen in this one..: csdb.dk/release/?id=29649 ..then I'm jealous. That is the only one I've encountered, not working on my 1541U-II. Loads fine on a real drive. Yes, right up until you requested PP Hammer, I had the illusion, that my 1541U ate everything, lol.. :o) It seems not.
      That's a great version of The Great Bath. The harp (I think?) and flute makes it sound very dreamy.

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  7 лет назад +1

      I've just downloaded the PP Hammer disk, i'll give it a go because i've not actually tried the SD2IEC extensively with many images yet. I will let you know how it works out. Which image were you using on the PP Hammer video?
      turrican 2 and 3 I cannot get working on the SD2IEC, they just lock up somewhere, i'll give them another try too but. Your shattered illusion about the 1541UII lol there's always freakin one disk isnt there!
      Turrican 2 and 3 disks have a weird disk structure which I just dont get, there's lots of files on there and I never know which one to select, just assuming its the first one.
      Yes the remix is dreamy, that synthetic harp type instrument, flute and the warm synth pad in the background really work well together.

    • @CasualCommodore
      @CasualCommodore 7 лет назад +1

      In the video, I used the Bonzai crack: csdb.dk/release/?id=121825. I hope the Enigma crack works with the SD2IEC, but I'd be surprised if it does. Happily surprised, that is. ;o) Yes, you friggin' ruined my perfect view on the Ultimate, lol..!!
      Hey, maybe try the C1581 versions of T2 and T3 from here: members.optusnet.com.au/spacetaxi64/MAIN/1581-GAMES.htm They may work, if you can't get the normal ones to work. And I think it's possible to find versions of popular C64 games, that have been fixed to work on the SD2IEC, as it's such a popular device.

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Brian! I just tested 3 versions of Turrican and they all work! and the good thing is, they seemed to be put into a single disk so no multi disk stuff going on :o) ... PP Hammer, it loads the first intro segment where you select if you want infinite lives, however after that part it just makes a croaking sound and a border screen comes up and everything freezes, so I guess that's a no... it croaked :op lol
      i'm figuring it works off a real floppy drive.

      I've looked it up and it looks like it's very good value for a mechanical keyboard.
      And it sounds great :-)

      Yes indeed and it's been working great too :o)
      I always wanted a mechanical keyboard but could never justify paying the high prices of the Corsair, Razer etc.

      I was lucky to get my Cherry G80 for about 50 Euro.
      I bought it before mechanical keyboards became really popular.
      Now they go for almost 100 which is silly.
      I still have my '87 model M and I just found it when I moved to my new apartment, but it needs some serious cleaning.

      They really are dust collectors! I need to clean mine already. I saw a Razer Blackwidow go for 170, i'm sure it's great but really too freakin much for a keyboard.
      But once you go mechanical, you cannot go back, not hearing/feeling the sounds now just wouldn't feel right at all.

    Sorry but I did everything you said to load multi Disks and when I quit and type load"*",8,1 it just brings me back to where I starter back to the CMB this thing SUCKS for multitasks I'll just buy the f..........ing floppys and play them the old fashioned way that or take this sd2ie crap and stomp a mud hole in it this thing works great for single disk games but more then one image popo sorry but it's frustrating

      To be honest, It is a good device for single disk games but after using it a while, I have to agree about multi disk games on it and I ended up going with the Ultimate II+. It handles them much better.

    Set mine up today, after heat-sinking my C64c. Absent mindedly, I plugged the power plug in to the user port upside down... The garbled mess that appears on my screen now, would appear to indicate a CIA chip has been well and truly killed!
    My wallet will be taking another hit. :(
