I have this and I would recommend it to anyone else. The panels on the ankles clean up a little better than you showed in the video (there are some extra joints that are quite tight and took me a while to find, too). If I had one criticism of it, it would be the ankles - no floppier than MP-10, to be fair, though. If I had two criticisms, I'd like the button for the light up gimmick to protrude more. The trailer hitch attaches the other way around, it then pegs on securely. I didn't think I'd buy this - I didn't much care for this era of IDW's comic and, ultimately, Prime's look has changed more than once since this so it felt, to me, a little like old news. In the end, I'm really glad I did - the transformation is very clever - almost as economical as possible in movement, few fake pieces and both modes are uncompromised. If I had a third criticism, I think they might just have managed to avoid the fake grill in 'bot mode. :-)

The faux grill annoys me much more on MP-10 and I think I'm probably being unfair - I'm forgiving Generation Toy their faux grill probably because of how many other non-faux parts they've achieved compared to Gcreation. If you can muster up the patience to spend 40 seconds and tighten the exposed shoulder and thigh screws this guy goes from an 7/10 to a 9.5 real quick. One of my best buys of this year so far easy. Excellent toy all around. If the butterfly joint was stiffer and the eyes were painted I'd say he's about as flawless as I could reasonably expect (barring the fixed tolerances).
I have the recolor, but this guy feels really good out of the box. Great color, and feels well made. These guys make a solid product (minus the combined mode of Menasor - though the individual bots are great).
I definitely like Op Ex look forsure, the gcreations is to lanky and skinny. The Op Ex looks like his ready for war, while the gcreations looks like his been drinking that soy milk with his Starbuck's lateys. Great review!

Yeah, I have few issues with this figure, too, though I don't have that issue with the rear piece you do. I do agree that I wish there was more ratchets, especially in the hips.

Also, I feel like you got the artists backwards. I think GCreations looks like it escaped the pages of Don's work, while Generation Toy's looks much closer to Milne's work.
I must insist the case! Don did the art for the first six issues of The Transformers (2009), and GCreation's is identical to his Optimus in virtually every way.

I've been looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one. I actually thought you'd like it less than you seemed to in this video based on your past opinions. Either way, it's a good watch. I read that Generation Toys tightened up some of the joints in their 2nd production batch. I bought one that was probably 1st production batch but luckily no real loose joint issues, with hips being able to hold pretty well. It did have a pretty loose left fore-foot that I tightened up with some Loctite (works great on metal-to-metal joints). This might end up being one of my favorites of the year, which is a surprise since I have no connection to IDW designs. I just bought it thinking it seems like a good Optimus Prime.
Not gonna lie, this looks TONS better than that last IDW Prime from GCreation, you looked at, where it had a ton of hinges here & there. So with this take from Generation Toy, have to say, kudos to them for making a better IDW Prime.
Great review! I really appreciate you doing this one. I've not pulled the trigger on MP IDW yet, but having 2 options on Optimus really is swaying me. The Motormaster review will be the make or break for me personally. I would love to see some solid comparisons of both IDW Primes to that Motormaster, if you can. Thanks Skullface.
I have this too and have meddled with it . Imo one of the better offerings this year just behind gunfighter 2. But there are flaws to the figure that should be pointed out , as this isn't your figure so you might not have seen the plastic sheet left in between the the back fins and the back in robot mode. Never lie this figure back down if you ever clean or customize the eye , the screws from the backfin will scuff up the silver paint on the back which forms the the sides of the cab. The neck looseness can be remedied by flipping the flap down in the chest that hides the matrix, the insignia slot should be revealed instead of the mid grill of the cab. Oh and wished he came with alt ears* like ultra maxmus . But overall a good solid figure.
That could be highlighted for caution , I've read that some others did suffer scuff marks as well . I adjusted the 2 panels that should fold down completely to fold at an angle to prevent further scratches , but I feel that those screws could have been handled better
Hey Bobby! I have heard several speculations of Mp optimus 3.0. You have mentioned that mp-10 needs an upgrade. Do you have an inside scoop on a new version of prime? What would you fix? Mp-10 has Giant lower legs for no reason, no electronics, not enough diecast, The back kibble breaks easy. Prime is the centerpiece of most collections and I passed on MP-10 at first because I had several Mp01s. Now I look forward to a 3rd version.
i havent heard that but it wouldnt surprise me. hes a high selling character. i would like shorter arms and shorter thighs with taller shins personally

see i was messing with this one and the motormaster at the same time and i think some stuff got mixed up and confused in my head between the two. i blame my early 20's
He looks great to me, dude. I really like that transformation too. The only problem, apart from those mentioned joints, that I see with it is the amount of panels and hinges. I can see myself breaking something on this figure during a transformation, and Im very paranoid about breaking stuff so Im always very careful with my figures. I love a complex transformation, but I absolutely hate thin and fragile parts! With that said, I don't flip my transformers figure back and forth though, so it wouldn't really be an issue. However! My damn curiousity always makes me transform my figure once or twice, and with my dumb luck, shit may break on the first transformation. I only collect the official Transformers figures though, but I don't mind getting 3rd party figures for the sake of using them as "couch toys" during boring tv programs LOL! Sometimes its just fun to fiddle with a figure while watching tv!

I thinks it's as he said in the review, the GCreations one looks more like Alex Milne's work, the Generation Toy one looks more like Don Figueroa's work. Try running an internet search for their respective drawings. As each has it's own style, it all comes down to which you like more.
Great review man. Yeah, this thing looks like a much less hair-raising transformation than G-Creation's Maximus. I guess when trying to bring this aesthetic from a drawing to a 3-Dimensional object there is just gonna be a certain amount of complexity to be expected.. Love Don's work myself.
Interesting review I really enjoy my copy of this figure but , I wonder what your opinion on the plastic is? It's the second Generation toy tat I bought, J4zz was my first and I really liked him but he doesn't seem to hold together any better than this Prime. The plastic feels, kinda cheap to me, hard to explain. A friendly aside, and lots of personal time invested myself, I noticed a couple of items you overlooked or missed that do help enhance the look of the figure and adds some stability. The blue piece hanging over the ankles actually has a dbl hinge to help hide the lower silver bits on the shin. The lower arms the sleeper cab 'shield' bits are meant to be angled (not saying you must though lol) :) But they have a little clip like angled section that helps hold them in the bent position (very loosely). The other item I thought was slick but I think you didn't see it, was the upper shoulder grey bits, they have a long tab on them that fits in a slot in the outer red piece of the shoulder top. Give the shoulder a bit of stability so that dbl hinged flap doesn't fly all over. All in all, I enjoy your reviews, and appreciate the critical approach to keep it real. After all It Is What It Is!
i was aware of the blue pieces but i prefer them over the feet in true idw fashion. as for the plastic i think its on the same level but i think some of it is thinner to move a bit more freely to allow for a complex transformation thats still enjoyable, but either way im glad you enjoy yours!

Laughed so hard when you went to test the full Van Damme splits and his whole ass fell out. I might be biased from buying the GCreation Op first, but at the same relative price, neither one of them seem to have the engineering and manufacturing to warrant their inflated pricetag. Generation Toy seemed to try playing it safe and simple with their design and got a bit of a floppy mess, whereas GCreation went over-engineered AF and got a really stable, highly fragile statue.
Hey! Too late for my comment but I just got mine today. Since you mentioned the issue with the eyes and compared them with FT´s Omega Supreme´s eyes I got the idea to remove the battery on it, take out the transparent eyes from the mask and apply first a white polish and then light metallic blue (acrylic paint) to give it some life. I haven´t finished the job but I´m very optimistic on the results!
Also I noted that the joints are a bit tighter than what are shown here or in other reviewer´s videos. I assume they (GT) listened to you guys an gave the screws a few more turns. They are far from perfect but at least the arm is not falling down holding the gun. :)
On the fence, my GC one self destructed shearing off an arm assembly, he's beyond saving. I like this well enough but its not enough for me to jump yet, the red is very plain looking for me and really needs paint/finish.
One thing that still annoys me with virtually all tf's is the fact none of them can do a proper kneeling pose (for say, kneeled sniping or say talking to humans/minibots poses).

My neck baseplate doesn't wiggle like that. Something might not be pegged in properly? The arms on mine are a little loose like yours. Hips too, and yeah front-to-back should have had ratchets. Ended up painting the eyes so they aren't dead. Light still glows through the single layer of paint pretty well. But the light-up gimmick is meh. Would have rather they just painted the eyes blue chrome and called it a day, save the expense of adding electronics into the skull.
Wow, interesting figure for sure. I like how it looked next to the TFM Motormaster, nice prelude to that upcoming review. I agree the engineering seems good, tolerance issues aside.... nice piece. Thanks for sharing.
the gun storage is similar to the movie 1 leader class prime. I kinda like g creation more robot mode wise but the whole transformation is too intricate.
i prefer ultra maxmas' proportions, i hated seeing the video reviews because some panels and pieces looked fragile, but since it has been already sometime and havent heard anything about it breaking or anything, just to be sure, how is yours doing?, because honestly i like it better than generation toy's offering

Yeah, personally I think Don is the TF Artist GOAT with Milne as a very close second. That's also part of what makes this difficult.

i prefer ultra maxmas' proportions, i hated seeing the video reviews because some panels and pieces looked fragile, but since it has been already sometime and havent heard anything about it breaking or anything, just to be sure, how is yours doing?, because honestly i like it better than generation toy's offering
