@@mpgnz73 plenty of wildlife photographers shoot OM-1 because you get so much in such a small package. Camera market isn’t very big and every lost sale to a competitor is a big deal. So yes, Canon, Sony, Fuji, OMDS, Panny… even Leica with their SL line. All of them are competition for Nikon. They’re all competing for their slice of the pie.
Thanks for answering my question! Really insightful answers, I think I will try the 'put the photos away for a little bit' thing next time I do some intensive shooting in the future. A lot to be said for detaching from the photos you just took (unless you are on a deadline with those photos) to help you see them a bit differently. I do a lot of writing as a day job and have been using that technique often as I find that works too (again if you can afford the time needed to let it percolate). I once contemplated switching brands when moving from DSLR to mirrorless, but with cameras in general it's all about buying the right tool for the right job. You ask yourself what kind of photography you do, what focal length you shoot the most, and what is your workflow. The workflow part is just as important. My workflow? Studio product photography, scale model, and landscape account for 90% of the stuff i do. I shoot 50mm a lot in studio so I'm willing to spend on a high quality or even an exotic 50mm. Canon's RF 50 choices are hot garbage in a sense you choose between a 200 or 2000 dollar lens, with the front element of the latter actually moving, sort of a semi-external focusing group which i find unacceptable in a premium prime lens. Sony has great 50mm options but the GMs focus breathe so much that it's a nuisance to my core workflow - focus stacking, which i do both for products and landscapes. So i ended up with Nikon Z, the company that is actually making the types of glass I'd actually want to use. I don't care how many lens choices a specific mount ecosystem has. More isn't necessarily better. You can give me 10 different 50mm lenses to choose from but if everyone single one of them don't suit my workflow, they are all useless. That's exactly what the Sony ecosystem is at the moment. Focus bracketing wasn't even a feature in Sony camera bodies until the A7R5.
Studio/backdrop looking great Jaron Feels a bit like Nikon is coming for m43's lunch, with all these compact teles :) not that I'm complaining, they do seem compelling. Been out photographing red deer in Derbyshire (as it's the rutting season) with a Panasonic G9 and a 100-300ii, and I've had to throw away a lot of the dawn shots (extreme low light) due to high ISO, not even Photolab could save them. One wonders which is the way to go when I upgrade in the near future - a G9 II and a brighter tele like the 200 2.8 (with/without TC), or a Nikon Z setup with the 180-600 or this new prime.
Interesting stuff! A longtime hobbyist, I've finally started to learn the difference between taking pictures and doing photography, and to use a camera in something other than Full Auto mode. Because I'm quite happy to continue using my 20-year-old 300D, along with the used 7D and 20D I recently got, I'm planning to stay in the old school and not worry about mirrorless (for now, at least). The advantage there is that there is quite a good selection of decent used glass that's available for a reasonable price as the camera companies concentrate on the new stuff.

29:55 How about voice commands to change Aperture, Shutter Speed, etc. Much better than bigger joystick to operate a camera while wearing gloves in cold weather...!!!
I think that the question about pixel binning was not only about quad Bayer but also about the Leica M and it's 60Mpix and the ability to reduce the pixel count of the output. This is also rumoured to appear on the Canon R5 mark II. Good thing? Bad thing? I think that if the lenses were able to resolve 60Mpix then we would have the best of both worlds but Canon lenses don't resolve that and far from it. So what is the point? Pure marketing exercise?
I understand there are a lot of things that are affected by sensor sizes, but I also believe that sometimes sensor size is given too much importance. From what I've seen Micro 4/3 sensors are commonly used in wildlife settings, but what's to stop someone from using one for weddings? The G9ii came out and looks to be an amazing camera, but most people wouldn't consider it for it. Fuji is a great example of pushing boundaries of what sensors can do and the stigma that comes with sensor size. Fuji's apsc cameras are putting out very high quality images. I just think that people tend to push the FF envelope and try to push it as better than the rest when it may not be the reality

RF10-20 is crazy wide if not fisheye. very interested. For the 600 PF, it is hard to pick over z180-600 which is only 1/3 of the price, almost same sharpness, more versatile and same f6.3. I don't see any reason to pay 3x more for the 600 PF other than a bit lighter and smaller, but lose the ability to zoom and twice more price. hard pill to swallow on this one.
Sharpness to the corners, and when shooting wildlife that’s pretty much essential. Steve Perry did a good test of that and the 600 is clearly equally sharp right to the edge. Unlike the 180-600. If you’re shooting a small fast moving bird that you catch only in the corner of the frame, and it’s your one image, you’ll want it sharp all over. That’s where the cost lies

Credibility issues? I've been a fan of Chris and Jordan since their early days from the Camera Store. Always appreciate(d) their honesty and still love their chemistry. Now, however, I am concerned that the OM Systems sponsorship may be biasing their opinions and affecting their credibility. I recall Chris' and Jordan's (fully justified) disappointment at the OM-5 in their DPReview review. Recently, their opinion of the OM-5 seems to have improved dramatically - not a coincidence. I am wondering what will happen when OM releases a new camera or lens - will we get the unbiased, honest review that we've seen in the past? Or in a shootout between the new Panasonic G9-II versus the OM-1? Don't get me wrong - I am not trolling, I'm just expressing a legitimate concern. Once one's credibility is gone it is hard to recover, and I sincerely hope that Chris and Jordan don't lower their standards just to please a sponsor.
Would you guys please stop say how beautiful Idaho is. Being a native Idahoan, I understand why you say this, but would really like to not have this get out to the rest of the world. Its a wonder they didn't get shot by some land owner while on the shoot. Scenery definitely ain't wort the risk to travelers, but I'm sure that won't stop them from mocking it up as if it is.
Oly 300mm comparison to the Nikon please.
Pentax!
While the new mics sound good, it would be great if they did not have to take centre stage.
@Chis: Get well soon.
Compact and lightweight lenses of all types for the love of god.
Chris, my deepest sympathy for the torture you underwent in Idaho. Those guys are heartless.
I felt so bad for him I was desperately trying to find a way to get him in the water, I promise. We'll make it up to him. -Jaron
@PetaPixel I think it's only fair you send him to New Zealand to review the new 600mm f6.3 lens. Trout jumping make great subject as does the very unique wildlife. Plus it's the start of summer here now, all your Alberta wildlife is now digging holes to hibernate. It's only fair. I can take care of him 😉
Fujifilm, if you’re listening, do what Nikon are doing. Give us some long fast-ish prime telephoto lenses.
Jeez Chris, you've been a COVID magnet for the last couple years. Hope you finally shake it off dude.
Medicated Chris is fun
Am I the one who wrote the comment about how they talk about gear but not about photography? That sounds like something I would say. Can I be a guest on the episode where they do that? :-) I’ll be in Australia and I know a great spot to go take photos of koalas.
Is the size and weight difference worth the extra $3000 over the Nikon zoom for the same aperture and reach? Eh... if any other maker released this, they wouldn't get as much fawning praise
perhaps you should have sellers & shops who were threatened by Cinestill on your next podcast to counter that terrible article you published…
I think Jordan's voice will still sound incredibly sexy regardless of what mic he uses! 😂😂😂
This + the new nikon firmware makes me want to dump my a1
If Chris Niccolls would become the presenter of a fly fishing equipment review channel, I would be the first to subscribe. -Or is he perhaps already doing that?
Here you go!

The Shure is clearly better than the Sony.
With a substantial price difference to boot! Is it a little better or a lot better?
To me it seems significant, but since there are two different people's voices with different tonal range it's hard to tell exactly how much better.@@PetaPixel
To me, both Shure and Sennheiser sound better than Sony. I just double checked with the old podcasts, and Jordan’s voice sounds tiny with the Sony. Between the Shure and Sennheiser, I prefer Shure. And also there were some clippings for Chris in this episode - but it might be also due to him being closer to the mic. @@PetaPixel
pp boys!
Why the guy die at the end of intro? It’s disturbing.
Chris' soft NPR voice should become the default
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5
It's been done
That’s for APS-C.
LAOWA 10-18MM @@PetaPixel
@PetaPixel yeah, its apsc. But at least the nikon one I have can fit on full frame starting at 14 or 15mm.
So while it's not a full frame 10-20mm, it does work as a 15-20mm on full frame. So you get a nice ultra wide lens for like 100 dollars
Huckleberries are not pear shaped
Jordan's Sony mike sounds pretty crappy TBH !
Isn't this like the second or third time he has come down with covid?
Second. Not uncommon at all.
- Jordan
woah...only 10 views, i am very early
Would you guys please stop say how beautiful Idaho is. Being a native Idahoan, I understand why you say this, but would really like to not have this get out to the rest of the world. We really have way more than enough people moving here and try to change it that we don’t need more. Do me a favor and just say that Idaho is an ugly, hot, desolate high desert state. Thanks.😊
OK, this is from an admittedly cranky old radio guy, but sorry, I’ve never liked the video look of “podcast” mics. All the podcast bros with their big black mics, all working the mic so close to get that bass boost - a giant group cliché - SNORE! I actually prefer the sound of Chris and Jordan’s field videos with lavs. Oh, and on my Zooms when I use an external mic I’ve got a neat cardioid condenser mic that’s located out of the frame and still works fine in my room.
Chris, stop getting covid! poor guy!
Jordan sounds so unenthusiastic with the OM-5 spot.
one of them is farting constantly
Why does the guy below keep interrupting them? Annoying.
Who's that ?
The continual fishing talk has gotten really old. This is a photography podcast. Leave the boring fishing talk at home.
I hate the deep voice i love the podcast , enough with the woke propoganda please
Should read this comment 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱
so like pedo pixel
$5K for F/6.3, no thank you.
