1 stop 2x go 3 reverse . Tractor driver drives his front without much worry about the Tillerman and the Tillerman drives his end. Which can become a bit crazy at times, to where you close your eyes and hang , trust me. I've been there, downtown during rush hour traffic. Best Job ever!
I had one too. That was my dream as a kid, to be the guy who drove the back of a fire truck! That’s what I used to say. I think a lot of people thought I was nuts or pulling thier leg ( I live in the country, we don’t have tiller trucks out here).
@@JustinMcnamara-yz3zwnot really I’m in rural Georgia and our mid mount is probably just as tall as any New York has got . Unless it’s a skycrane most are 100-107 ft ours is 107 . European trucks are very purpose built without all of the frills we put on them in America. Different places need different trucks.
@@JS-zb1vv So 107ft is about 32m, thats the standart height of a laddertruck in Germany, which nearly every city has. But ours are still way smaller in size compared to US ladders. Also i dont know why, but it seems US ladders mostly dont have a basket attached unlinke ours. But yeah Trucks in the US like to "show off" unlike here, sometimes i would like to see some more visual aesthetic designs here in europe. FF deserve it
@@ThH-DE I think that’s about all engineers can make them go as a ladder style with that design. If it’s built like a crane they can go way up . Canada has a huge one I think it’s like 300 feet .
The entire vehicle is roughly the size of a tractor trailer. Having a second driver to steer in the back allows incredibly tight turns compared to the regular fire trucks of the same length or even shorter ones. These can also drive diagonally. This video might be sped up a little because the backup alarm sounds kinda fast. Backing up trucks is very easy for some people and extremely hard for others. I know two past fire department Chiefs that are terrible. Please make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home. The same goes for smoke detectors, but in each bedroom too. Remember they only last up to ten years from the date of manufacture.
There are also dozens fire departments that use different colors such as green, blue, orange, white, yellow, lime green, and I've even seen some in purple or pink. The RUclips channel FireCam15 shows off some cool green ones.
That is so cool backing up the fire 🔥 truck like a pro awesome with the lights on oright then makeing me want to be a fire 🔥 fighter I really want to drive the fire 🔥 truck
Yano. I always wondered how they could drive these and navigate the tight streets of NY. But I didn’t know they had tillers, so that would definitely make sense
The dude driving that tiller is boss, because the dude backing that truck in ain’t slowing down for shit ! 😂
The footage is in reverse
Nope. people walking normally.@@moondog3056
@@moondog3056nope look at the lady crossing the street
@@moondog3056he is literally looking backwards, and has the door open..
More like sped up
As an active duty firefighter, this makes my boys tingle with excitement.
This is so gratifying to watch. The tiller rig sliding in with the music is so awesome. 👏🏾

This is so impressive and the music is on point and reminds me of all the awesomeness of the early 2000s
Chauffeurs and Tillermen have a special relationship
Wives wish for such an intimate relationship

I had a customer of 30+ years who was a FNDY tiller driver. Hilarious man. Good driver as well lol. Miss u Harris.
I’ve seen these in action. It’s so cool seeing the coordination of two driver in the same vehicle.
I've seen them make u-turns something that size shouldn't make and it's cool as hell
In this ladies and gentlemen is how the professionals do it😂😂🇺🇸

FDNY rocks I miss my old job 27 years I was on that job. God bless brothers.
Does tiller have brake control?
This is definitely not the best time for both drivers to get angry at each other.
What station and the location of it?
Smooooooooth! GENTLEMEN!!!!
Thank You Sir for knowing how to back in.
That was GREAT!😊
Nailed it like a champ

I always think of Kramer when I see one in the streets
PUTTING THE BEAST IN THE CAVE ! EXCELLENT TEAM WORK!! 👍💯🇺🇸
WOW, that was PERFECT work!!!! Nice job guys! 👍
That's what my grandfather did in Stamford.
Hot damn! Tiller drivers rock!!!!!!
I love the American style of fire trucks, they’re a proper truck, here in England they suck and they keep getting smaller and smaller
To be fair this is New York and they have some of the biggest fire trucks we have.
@@JustinMcnamara-yz3zw ahh cool 👍

“All I asked was can you drive? You could have just said yes”
Team work makes the dream work 😎
Oh my gosh! ive always wondered how in the world they get those trucks around such small spaces
Thats the point, a tiller is wayyyyyy more maneuverable that a regular ladder, so tillers are put in tighter areas.
@@GamingWithLenox even way more maneuveracle than your everyday semi truck
I always wondered, say they accidently hit something, do both drivers get faulted?
