After 12 years of watching over 25 Bergman films, I finally saw this one - and it's my favourite. An incredible achievement

I really liked this film. Admittedly the first half hour is slow but it develops into a very human, moving production that is reminiscent of Bergman's earlier work. Even though the artistes are crazy and the script is impossible and the cinema has burnt down, art, in its simplest and most essential form, still has the power to provoke deep feeling. Made me feel like listening to more Schubert too.

Thanks for following this through! Just one more to go? You can do it!
I often disagree with your verdicts, and certainly with this ”film” - more of a TV production really, I don’t find it slow or boring at all, I get absorbed and focused, I find it entrancing.
I’m not sure if I remember correctly, not having seen your other videos for a long time, but I don’t think you have commented on the many recurring characters and names in the films. For instance, Carl Åkerblom in this film is based on Bergman’s maternal uncle, and this is basically the same character as Carl Ekdahl in Fanny and Alexander (and played by the same actor). Also, in In the Presence of a Clown, the school teacher Märta Lundberg from Winter Light, is part of the audience. Winter Light, by the way, is one of the films where I disagree with you the most. I think that one is his masterpiece.
