Thank you for making this video! My 1.0's hard drive died (partition 4 vanished and couldnt write to c) during the hotswap process, and this allowed me to make a new drive for my console, saving me from having to buy another xbox!
If your xbox still works, there is little reason to do it this way though. This method is pretty much a last resort type thing when there is no other way to extract the data. If your xbox still works, softmod it, then extract the eeprom with software tools on the xbox itself, then grab the backed up eeprom.bin file from the console using FTP on a PC to connect to the xbox. You can do this fairly easily with the known gamesave exploits, or if you don't have any of the known exploitable games, you can softmod the system with an IDE to USB adapter (which are cheap af) and use xboxhdm23usb to access the xbox hard drive using the hot swap method on any modern computer. (Not trying to educate you here, but rather those who don't actually know)
Hi do I need lpc rebuild first for xbox 1.6 for extract eprom i have tried external power supply method but it didn't work i am getting lots of numbers when I run i2cdetect not like yours.
Hey excellent video! No other tutorials are this simple or well explained. I do have one question just, what type of old computer did you use to connect to the HDD, I mean I saw it was a linux one but wasn't sure what type. Would a virtual machine or windows sub-system of linux run this? Also what type of connection from the HDD to the computer did you use IDE, USb or other way? I ask because I tried to connect my HDD to my Windows pc to see if what files I can see on it & even with programs like Xplorer360 & that one you used it wouldn't recognize the Disk (not that I noticed). Mine is a IDE connection to PC with a molex psu by the. What PC & connection method would you recommend? Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful tutorial. I have that exact problem atm, that's how I found it. It's helped me get further than I could already. I've got a Raspi 3B+ too! (: So I'll give your tutorial atry straight away & hopefully I can get my HDD unlocked & unbricked. It is starting up with the custom flash I installed ut then justgoes to a dash board error 13 (or sometimes error 14) screen & won't go any further. So I'm hoping it's fixable. I didn't know anything about ho to backup the eeprom when I did it, so stupidly only saved the eeprom to the Xbox itself & never transfered it off (now it will be the first thing I do always). Then I used the Xpartitioner program to resize some of the drives I think (because they seemed so small & couldn't hardly fit any games. That's when it must of wiped certain drives or information & now it only starts this far. I hope I can rescue & backup some of my data from any of the drives I haven't formatted or wiped.. Anyhow awesome great work on your video mate, I'll give it a like & subscribe. Also thank you again very much for sharing it..
In the video you commented on, its all raspberry pi, if you are referring to xboxhdm, I use an older pc with ide on board, they work the best. If you can't get ahold of an old pc with ide on board, you can use an ide to usb adapter on windows 10 and xboxhdm 2.2 usb version. I have the download link in my description. Looks like you'll need to extract the eeprom first, then copy it to your pc to unlock the disk. Good luck.
Forgive me if this sounds like a silly question, but I'm actually confused on the point of this solution. Is the point to get the eeprom to migrate it to a "new" working harddrive? Or is the point to back up the eeprom? What can you actually use this solution for?
The eeprom is extracted from the xbox so you can lock a modern hard drive to the xbox. You can use an ssd but it isn't recommended because of the cache partitions will constantly write to the drive which could cause the drive to wearout quicker.

I really recomend you do this as soon as you get the xbox incase the hard drive goes night night forever

Excellent Video Thank you for going through this process !
This is great. I did not know that there was a way to dump the EEPROM from a Pi.

Any alternative for raspberry pi 4?
Hey, great video! Little convoluted having to use windows file sharing, guess it's easier if it the pi uses incompatible filesystem

can you do it with Arduino? or FT232R? ugh 😭
fantastic tutorial actually i wanted to learn how to erase and write custom .bin files into chips

If you have an xbox that has a dead hard drive, to fix it, you'll need the eeprom to build a new hard disk. The other solution is to add a modchip.
@@techhoarder3010 so theoretically you could build this eeprom on a modern hard disk or even SSD?
@@techhoarder3010 I saw that you used a floppy. Is there another way around that?
Yeah, watch my xboxhdm video. There is a method using Windows 10.

Is it the same pin out for the other xbox versions?
Yes.
Would this process work with a Version 1.6 a or b console?
Yes, Any version Xbox.
@@techhoarder3010 Thanks, I will try this method, I hope everything goes well
@@techhoarder3010 hey you have some tutorial for fix the bios when is damage or need reinstall the bios ?
Raspberry Pi Zero also possible ?? make pi z???
Yes you can do it on the zero
now its python3 btw
