    Just sent this to my 11 year old Son while I'm cooped up in the hospital for a bit.
    Told him this is my go to guy for camping advice and revolver repairs..
    Haven't gotten him into shooting yet, but his mind works like mine so I know he'll absorb all the repair work before I can get outside and get some shooting basics to work with.. Within minutes he texts me back and says that this is the coolest video ever!!!

      I like his BP videos too. Ever notice how Blackie talks like the people watching are trying to learning, but are not stupid. I like that, some people act as if I must be dumber than dirt, for wanting to be able to do a little more than clean my own guns. Another, Thumbs up! :)

    About screws on reproductions. Uberti uses very soft screws on their guns. I have a Uberti 1873 Trapper Carbine in .357Mag and ordered a complete hardened screw kit from VTI Gun Parts and was very pleased. VTI sells hardened screws for all Uberti guns just in cases someone wants good screws for their Uberti. This is not an issue on Pietta guns though.

      Uberti and Pietta use soft steel throughout the guns... even the barrel and cylinders and everything, they are all soft as hell, i had a brass punch dent/nick a good sized chunk of the steel by the wedge.. even had a nylon screw driver handle do it.. These reproductions are terrible

    Just bought an 1851 navy last week. I shot it today at the range and had a lot of fun. I want to tell you how much I appreciate all the knowledge you've shared on these videos. I've never shot a bp gun before and was a little unsure about it but after watching your videos I had the confidence to safely fire it as well as clean it correctly. Thanks again and keep them coming!

    BLACKIE: POPSICLE STICK and 250 or 400 Emery paper slides right up the hand channel and deburr's it really well. It also does a nice job on the hammer channel. I love my popsicle sticks.
    Oh I forgot. PINK LOCKTIGHT is for vibration. Unscrews easily but holds screws nicely. 😁

    I cannot get my wedge/key out to release the barrel, I've tried banging on it with a rubber mallet, I've tried hitting it with brass, I even tried taking the screw out and I am completely stumped at this point. I don't want to scratch it up or get wild with it, but PLEASE if anyone here can tell me how to get that damned thing out, I can't clean my beloved .36 properly until I get that thing out. I've been reading on various forums all these horror stories of vices and crap, it can't be that hard?!? It's the exact same model as this one, Pietta.

    I wonder if the substance Colt used on the machine screws was linseed oil?

    When putting together my 1851, I managed to push my cylinder down onto the arbor but I forgot to set the hammer on half-cock. I lined up one of the notches on the cylinder with the bolt and it took a little shove to put back on, but it seems to work fine with tight lockup and good timing. I'm just wondering if I did any damage to the cylinder, bolt, or spring by doing this, or if it's no big deal. I plan on replacing the factory spring with a wire spring anyway, so I'm not too worried, just curious

    Great video it was very in depth and very helpful. After my range trip i wanted to do a complete cleaning. I got it back together and i only hear 3 clicks when i pull back the hammer the first click is inaudible. It functions as it should. But i think i messed something up.

    Hi Blackie, I purchased an 1851 Navy and I'm stumped as to what the problem can be. I can pull the hammer full cock once and it releases fine. On the very next attempt to cock, the hammer will only move 1/4" and stop. I can release the hammer and the next attempt to cock and fire is normal. This sequence happens each and every time. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

    Even today, some of those screws are of a minutely different length, based on depth of hole. Irregardless of what you think of modern technology and specs, some manufacturers still custom fit many bolts and screws. This is why , replacement hardware, often times, does not give good results. Surprised, you don't cover this on a regular basis. Yes , modern technology is great, but not always implemented.

    Good video...I have a question about the nipples. I've got about 12 of the BP pistols of different versions and on all the #10 caps are too dang tight so I use #11's & pinch them. Are there other nipple to purchase that #10 caps fit better or is there something I can do to make the ones I have fit #10 caps? Thanks

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  4 года назад +1

      yes you can take time out wrap the threads with masking tap ..then place them threads first into a drill and tighten up..now use like a mini lathe and slowly turn and polish with 400 sandpaper..go slow and check with a cap to be sure of fit

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  4 года назад

      it shares same internal set up as 51 navy

    • @cisforcraig
      @cisforcraig 4 года назад

      They have similar hammers. The 51 and 60 only have two notches in the hammer where the 73 has three notches. The first notch on a 73 is supposed to be a safety notch which the 51 and 60 do not have. So the black powder guns only have three clicks.
      I do appreciate all of the hard work that you put into your channel.

    I'm trying to take mine apart. It used to belong to my uncle who has passed. It hasn't been cleaned in years and I am trying to clean it but no matter what I do the barrel will not come off. I have been using liquid wrench and spraying it around the keyhole and every place else I can get to for that part of the gun. It will not come off. Any advice?

    • @Muskrat123
      @Muskrat123 3 года назад

      Is it a Pietta and are you trying to get the wedge out? If so, they can be a real bear to take apart. I recommend some sort of brass drift punch, rubber hammer, and propping the gun up on two blocks of wood. Then just let it rip.
