  • Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches Verses 1-3 from the third chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. This series of talks unfolds the highest truths of Vedanta through the study of "The song of God".
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 1:
    अर्जुन उवाच |
    ज्यायसी चेत्कर्मणस्ते मता बुद्धिर्जनार्दन |
    तत्किं कर्मणि घोरे मां नियोजयसि केशव || 1||
    arjuna uvācha
    jyāyasī chet karmaṇas te matā buddhir janārdana
    tat kiṁ karmaṇi ghore māṁ niyojayasi keśhava
    🔴 Arjuna said:
    O Krsna! If your view is that knowledge is superior to work, why do you bid me undertake this fearful work of war?
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 2:
    व्यामिश्रेणेव वाक्येन बुद्धिं मोहयसीव मे |
    तदेकं वद निश्चित्य येन श्रेयोऽहमाप्नुयाम् || 2||
    vyāmiśhreṇeva vākyena buddhiṁ mohayasīva me
    tad ekaṁ vada niśhchitya yena śhreyo ’ham āpnuyām
    🔴 By words that seem confused, You bewilder my intelligence as it were. Therefore set forth one sure course by which I may attain the highest good.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 3:
    śhrī bhagavān uvācha
    loke ’smin dvi-vidhā niṣhṭhā purā proktā mayānagha
    jñāna-yogena sāṅkhyānāṁ karma-yogena yoginām
    🔴 The Blessed Lord said:
    O sinless one! Two kinds of disciplines in this world were set forth by Me in times of yore - for the Samkhyas the discipline of knowledge, and for the Yogins, that of works.

    15:00 first 6 chapters say what you are. Next six say what That is; what is Saguna Brahman, devotion to God. Chapter 13 brings it together, says you are not wave and God is not ocean, both are water. Prakriti-purusha-viveka. Tat Tvan Asi. 14th chapter is jivanmukti, gunatitha, 15th is paravairagya, 16th is manifesting the Divinity in life, the qualities to be cultivated from beginning and makes you a saint, 17th talks about shraddha, and 18th is a summary of the entire teaching. That is Madhusudana Saraswati's picture of the Bhagavad Gita.

      @@shibambose9382 while I agree that Gita is about liberation of atma I also believe that to attain such condition one has to experience physical freedom . Otherwise Krishna could have easily recited the Gita during their vanavas. Moreover Gita also talks about swadharma and our dharna is to defend our motherland against all kinds of agression something we failed to do

    Swamiji, you say that Hindus' commentaries for 1500 years never took the Bhagavad Gita as being about the topic of fighting war -- but Jesus taught us to forgive our brothers for what we thought they did to us, and to see our brothers as ourselves -- so in this war, Arjuna wants to forgive and not to fight. This is very difficult for me to understand why you say that it is not about war. "I'm sure you are right, but I don't get it."

    why does he keep saying Arjuna when he knows it is Arjun?Or Shiva instead of Shiv? Isn't John always John in any language? When we speak in Hindi does John become Johna? Television become televisiona ? ho it does not change. So why do we change our characters names or God's name when we talk in English?

    • @ashwinmenon76
      @ashwinmenon76 3 года назад

      It is in fact Arjuna in Sanskrit. For example, it is not Arjun Uvacha in the Gita, it is Arjuna Uvacha. Speakers from northern India are used to the schwa elison in hindi and frequently omit the final A. Speakers from southern India generally do not. This is my personal observation from hearing people from various parts of India chant the shlokas in Gita classes; I'm not a language expert 🙂

      @@ashwinmenon76 Sorry to disagree. i studied a bit of Sanskrit in school in North. Now some places like Karnatak (I dont believe it is Karnataka) it is pronounced Arjuna. But those who learned original sanskrit it is Arjun.

    • @hariseth4897
      @hariseth4897 3 года назад

      @@ashwinmenon76 It is due to limitation of English script. I read a few northern scripts and in all they write and pronounce 'Arjun' and not Arjuna. अर्जुन्, दुर्योधन , this how Arjun and Duryodhan respectively written in devnagari script, If you know someone familiar with Devnagari can verify. Same in Gujarat and Bengali scripts.

      The way it was expalned to me, is that in original Sankrit is Arjuna. But because of the English language influence, in Hindi people started to say Arjun, Yog, and such
