Joy, watch: A Litmus Test! President Nelson's Surprising Words! | General Conference 2024 by Families In The Millennium. She has a great explanation of true joy. I saw your last video talking about the subject.
Hi Pastor Jeff and Joy. You might be interested to know that BYU's quarterback, Jake Retzlaff, is Jewish and loves BYU as a place that he can grow in his own faith. He wears a necklace with a Star of David. He is now a BYU hero.
I'm an evangelical Christian and I think I would really love the atmosphere at BYU in large part because I also don't drink. It would be refreshing to go to a football game and not have to smell it in the air or listen to drunk people act a fool. 😆
Agreed! I just don’t see the point of alcohol, for many of the reasons you stated above. So glad that is one vice I don’t have to worry about (or spend money on). ◡̈
Do you not drink because it’s against your religion or is it a personal decision? Reason I ask is I believe any church ok with alcohol is a false church.
@CynthiaNylander, i know the question is not directed at me, but my answer to that is both. Because from an Latter Day Saints perspective is a commandment to abstain from harmful substances such as tobacco and alcohol (tea and coffee included) but for me it is a personal decision because I saw how my dad became when he was drunk. Praise God for delivering him.

@@bambie1830 You think that is literal? Praying unceasingly? You wouldn't be able to do anything ever. I'm speaking specifically about formal group prayer. If you do the same thing every hour at the beginning of each class it has to be tiresome and repetitive, regardless of your personal opinion about 'unceasing' prayer. Also, I never said God tired of hearing the prayers, I said that the students would tire of the repetitiveness. Although, thinking about God listening to 8 billion continuous streams of prayer is pretty damn hilarious and outrageous.
@@fenixdown2396 we don’t say pre-prepared, repetitive prayers. Each prayer is unique. We are taught the basic order of prayer, but when we pray we are encouraged to talk to our Heavenly Father about our gratitude and our righteous desires. Perhaps not class specific but praying for the students of the school, the community, the country, the world… praying for His guidance, His peace, His love to be felt but all.

I got to see my first BYU game this year as well. It was a road game at the University of Wyoming. I was at the game for work and met some amazing folks who work for the university as well as their fan base!
I began attending BYU in 1979. I also grew up in St Louis and had never attended a college football game, nor even watched one on TV until that point. Early in the season BYU played an away game against Texas A&M and one of the BYU players, Danny Frazier, was injured with a broken neck. I was at a watch party that evening with a bunch of friends and several of us decided to drive to the SLC airport to welcome the team home after BYU won the game. When the plan landed one of the team staff walked over to a black couple who turned out to be Danny's parents and told them he had already been flown back on a medical jet. A few months later I was in the MTC where Danny Frazier was also in training as a missionary, though we didn't interact to speak of. I was a hardcore BYU sports fan from that point on and even though I could get free student tickets to the football games I hated waiting in the line each week so I got a job as an usher. That way I avoided the long, long line, got paid to attend the game, and could move around more easily when that cold wind blew out of the canyon down on the folks sitting on the metal bleachers.
I saw you at that game but did not get a chance to say hello. Glad you enjoyed it. By the way, the mascot is Cosmo. I enjoy your videos and your thoughtful comments.
Thanks for coming Pastor Jeff! I’m a member of the Cougar Marching Band. I counted 6 times you featured us in the video (once was in the stands, we’re up front in the southeast corner of the stadium) The halftime show this time was a Beatles Medley (as I’m sure you heard over the PA and probably recognized a few tunes). I love that we pray before each game. It’s always right as the band is on the sidelines, ready to take the field, so I’ve got my instrument and get to bow my head in prayer while in uniform. Powerful experience every time. There were rumors among us that one of the apostles was there, and we all wanted to meet him. In my case, maybe another day, but so glad you got to meet him though! Next time you come to a game, come out to the statue of the cougar after the game. We play what we call our Fifth Quarter Concert there, and we feature a mix of our stand tunes, bits of our halftime shows, and a medley of two LDS classics: Sisters in Zion, and We’ll Bring the World His Truth. Glad you got a chance to pay us a visit!

I’m so glad that you guys are continuing to have a positive experience interacting with Latter Day Saints and the Utah community ❤ I love the channel and the episodes with your sweet wife Joy are my favorites.
I like Jeff and Joy but I wonder if they are “Wannabes”? I have seen that in my faith ( not LDS). I am from another Christian Faith that is a “tick” off from the mainstream Christian religions. We are EVANA NETWORK. Evangelical Anabaptist. ( Progressive Amish/Mennonite). We in our stream don’t wear distinctive clothing anymore. Next year our faith will be 500 years old. We have lovely Christian people that visit for years, love our lifestyle, our singing, food (ha ha) quilting. They would like to be Anabaptist BUT, there is this But thing that keeps them from joining. We call them “Wannabes”.
They all know each other because they have been season ticket holders for generations and their families have sat in the same seats near each other for years.
You are official! As a Hispanic student at BYU the experience was one of a kind. The football games, sports, activities, campus, cultural celebrations, devotionals, education, I could keep going, was super fun, energetic, powerful, and most of all wholesome. Can’t wait for my kiddos to attend! Go Cougars!!!
I love your normal content, but I think it's really fun that you did this! I would love for you to do more videos about Latter-day Saint and Utah culture!
I love you brother Jeff and sister Joy, you are both awesome. You don't know it yet, but you will both join the Church...all you have to do is ask God, in the name of his son Jesus Christ, if the Church is true or not.
Did someone already mention that the BYU marching band plays the opposing team's fight song as a welcoming tribute. Then, the opposing traveling fans are also each brought some free ice cream as a goodwill offering of sportsmanship. I'm sorry if that's already been said 🎉
You were definitely in the more mild (expensive 😉) west side seats, but the atmosphere is awesome wherever you are. Glad you enjoyed yourselves. The start of a magical season for the Cougs!
Along with the pastors in attendance, I would be willing to guess that there were a bunch of bishops. I remember attending a BYU basketball game 30 years ago that was some type of anniversary (for the building I think) At half time they brought out 4 old guys in track suits who used to play for BYU many years ago. Pretty cool until they announced their names. All were apostles. The crowd went wild! My favorite BYU football game memory (fortunate to have been to many games) is when the band starts playing 'Popcorn Popping' (one of the favorite children's songs in the church). The crowd starts singing - seems like all 65,000 - and doing the actions to the song. Great time!
As for your "When in Rome," suggestion, I've attended BYU and UNM, and once my wife & I attended a basketball game when BYU came to Albuquerque. I was cheering both teams, but of course the UNM fans only noticed when I was loud for BYU. She explained to them that I'd been to both schools, they smiled and we all enjoyed the game together. Good fans!
You picked a great game to be at! Maybe not as exciting as this Friday’s game against Oklahoma State - but they’ve all been great games this season. Go Cougars!
I just love how you immerse yourself in learning about all aspects of our church and its members. I'd love to meet you and your wife and enjoy a BBQ with us!
You guys sat in the old-fogie season ticket holder section, so that party explains the "calmness" and the fact that people seemed to know each other. They sit in approximately the same area for decades in that section of the stadium.
Byu is a big tent of not just mormons all faiths and beliefs are welcome! Even the beer drinking fans it is something to celebrate. Glad you had an amazing time come back and be one with us anytime :)
Great year to become a cougar fan! If you’re trying to get the experience, you need to come a few hours early and take part in all the activities! It’s really a social event.
Awesome video, I was wondering what a BYU game might be like. Thank you for your thought full content, I liked that you guys shared your thoughts on the prayers, I love that they do that, and that they pray for the other team to lose! :) that was funny!
That would be funny, but she was joking... he laughed and said that's not what they prayed for. Most likely that they would "be watched over and kept safe. "
Such a fun video. Glad you both enjoyed the game. Definitely part of the church culture. I live in WA State, but still come down to Provo to support my Alma mater.
Yes!!! If you want high level vitriol attend a Utah vs BYU football game. Great rivalry! I’m glad they play each other this year. BYU is playing great. Utah…. Well, not so much. -signed disappointed Ute fan
Hi Pastor Jeff and Joy, regarding the Apostle that you accidentally bumped into, you’ll have to look them up and see if you recognize the one. Where do you have your church and time? It would be nice to come visit your congregation. I am a member of the church. My sister who lives in California isn’t and any time we’re there for vacation we always attend their church and I do love her Pastor and the well thought out message he presents to his congregation.
I've pretty much left the church because I have a difficult time believing in God, but I still love going to a BYU football game. It is a great atmosphere.
I used to work at the culinary support center on campus, which is where they make all the cougar tails. Although I didn’t normally work with the doughnut crew, they always need all hands on deck to make them all (I wish I could remember how many they make every home game, but it’s a ton!). I worked probably a 6-hour shift in the middle of the night and they were still making them into the next day to get them all done. This happens for EVERY home game. So, although I love that I feel like I have a behind the scenes look to the iconic cougar tail , I will never eat one again 😂
I'm really glad you had a good experience and didn't hear any cussing or see anyone get too crazy. Part of the reason for that is who they played. If you ever go to another game, you will have to go to a night game against a bigger foe. There is magic that happens in that stadium, and the crowd goes nuts (usually in a clean way, but really loud). The OSU and KSU games were like that this year.
I saw you there, as you approached me I said hello to you! Not sure why you were on the south end zone, since you sat in the west side- it’s all good. I’ve been looking for this video to come out. Glad to hear you guys had a good time. Go Cougs!!
While I love this vid, I would like to see you explore LDS church life and practice outside of Utah, which is the capital of church culture. I live on the east coast and have never been to a BYU game, pioneer monument, church school, TCATS performance, mountain hike, DI, in person conference session, snipe hunt, family history library, Deseret book, city creek, or shaken hands with an apostle. However I remain an active member of the church, including temple service, without any cultural aspect. Come spend time with non “Mormon corridor “Latter Day Saints.
U of U and BYU aka “The Holy War” football game is a very big important game in the state of Utah. I very much suggest you guys go to it this year. Because it is like no other football game anywhere else. I will say this for someone who is also from Utah. Going to that game is an absolute insane experience. I’m also glad you guys had the experience to go to a BYU football game. I hope you guys enjoyed the game.
But it’s at the U this year so in case you’re unlucky and seated within range of the wrong kind of Utah fan bring earplugs to block out all the potty mouth stuff and light hooded raincoats in case - ugh, I hate to say it - in case any decide to dump beer on you (sigh)
@@thedcautomotive I get it, both my folks, half my siblings & lots of my friends are Utes. But for whatever reasons I don’t understand a few things are tolerated at RES Stadium that wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere else including dumping beer on opposing team fans. And allowing a few bad apples to stay spoils the whole barrel’s reputation
I'm Australian. I have never grasped how big and how important college sports are to Americans. There are High School sport competitions in Australia but they are nowhere near to the scale of what your College sports are. P.S I'd love to get my hands on a couger tail!

Fun video; thanks. The montage was well put together and enjoyable.
I loved this video! This would be such an awesome experience! I live in texas, and I wish I could go to a BYU game!
I love this! Thanks for visiting!
I love your normal content, but I think it's really fun that you did this! I would love for you to do more videos about Latter-day Saint and Utah culture!
Maybe he could try Swig? Or read a Brandon Sanderson novel (lol!)
Although not necessarily "Mormon" you should visit Provo Canyon in the summer (Bridal Veil, Vivian Park) etc
@@toddsyoutube2679 Ooooh yes I second this! Bridal Veil Falls is a Utah culture must! That and Khyv Peak lookout (formerly known as Squaw Peak)
Get tickets to Savior of the World at the Conference Center during the Christmas season. It is amazing!!!
You are an awesome pair! I love your videos. Keep on putting more videos out there.
I am aware of at least 4 different religions represented on BYU's Football team this year, but there could be more. I love that. GO COUGS!!!
It’s surprisingly perhaps, the most diverse roster in college football this year. Both religiously and ethnically
Im LDS from New Zealand. Best video yet. Cinematography was excellent. Do more of these types of videos. Well done korua (Maori for "you two)"
Great video. I'm a huge BYU fan, and a fan of anyone that makes the world a better place like you and your wife. I wish you and your church the best.
I love your wife! What an incredible duo you two are! From an Illinois native who went to WIU and BYU, and convert, sending you much love!💗
I love you brother Jeff and sister Joy, you are both awesome. You don't know it yet, but you will both join the Church...all you have to do is ask God, in the name of his son Jesus Christ, if the Church is true or not.
Now you just need to come back for the 4th of July stadium of fire and fireworks show.😉
How fun I went to a BYU Game 40 years ago when I came to visit Utah .
From Aberdeen Scotland so this was something like we had never experienced:)😊
Did someone already mention that the BYU marching band plays the opposing team's fight song as a welcoming tribute. Then, the opposing traveling fans are also each brought some free ice cream as a goodwill offering of sportsmanship.
I'm sorry if that's already been said 🎉
BYU grad here….I never knew this! What an amazing gesture to the visiting teams. 💙
Great time!
As a relocated Buffalonian and BYU grad, welcome to the world of the Cougars!
Congrats you two on a real cool experience at a BYU game
so odd. I'm such a utah fan, never been to a byu game. But with utah not doing so well and watching this, I all of the sudden want to go to a byu game
I am thrilled to see you at a game. If you would like to come again, I would love to host you.
Good fans!
Very cool to see other Christian pastors at the game enjoying the vibe at a BYU game!
You picked a great game to be at! Maybe not as exciting as this Friday’s game against Oklahoma State - but they’ve all been great games this season. Go Cougars!
Also, the mascot is Cosmo the Cougar.
I just love how you immerse yourself in learning about all aspects of our church and its members. I'd love to meet you and your wife and enjoy a BBQ with us!
Hey I went to that game. My wife has never been to a college game til that day and she found it extremely entertaining
You guys sat in the old-fogie season ticket holder section, so that party explains the "calmness" and the fact that people seemed to know each other. They sit in approximately the same area for decades in that section of the stadium.
What a fun experience! When I first saw your post I was really hoping it was for the OSU game because it was 🔥🔥🔥. Thanks for sharing!
Byu is a big tent of not just mormons all faiths and beliefs are welcome! Even the beer drinking fans it is something to celebrate. Glad you had an amazing time come back and be one with us anytime :)
Love the lady and tramp cougar tail bit! Glad you had fun.
This was a fun one 😊 loved it! If you had known that he was an apostle, would you have tried to set up an interview or grilled him on the spot? Lol
Love your content brother!
Fantastic content. I was there too, glad you were able to be there!
Love this ❤and appreciate your insights and it’s wonderful you were able to meet an apostle of the Lord.
Best video yet.
If this was the Arizona game President Dieter F. Uchtdorf was there and had a white dress shirt on.
They said this was against southern Illinois
He responded on another comment to say it was Elder Gong.
Okay...so now go Google pictures of the Quorum of the 12 and tell us who you met!
My money is Elder Bednar
Yes, I'm curious which of the 12 it was!
For some reason I’m betting it was uchdorf
If it was Uchtdorf he probably would have mentioned the accent and the hair. He definitely stands out
I also want to know who it was! ❤
Yes!!! If you want high level vitriol attend a Utah vs BYU football game. Great rivalry! I’m glad they play each other this year. BYU is playing great. Utah…. Well, not so much.
-signed disappointed Ute fan
Most Utah fans need a hug.
@kimwestra2961 He said in a comment that it was Elder Gong.
I've pretty much left the church because I have a difficult time believing in God, but I still love going to a BYU football game. It is a great atmosphere.
Very fun!!
You guys are fun and adorable. ❤ go cougs ❤
Glad you enjoyed it.
Welcome to Cougar Nation pastor and wife!!
Go Cougars! Glad you enjoyed the experience.
@@duane9166 just letting you know I’m more of a Utes fan than a BYU
Elder Uchtdorf is from GERMANY. He was Lufthansa VP for Flight Operations and Chief Pilot. He was in the German Air Force and spent a year in Texas at USAF jet pilot school. Apostle Soares is from Brazil and Apostle Kearon is from England.
Pastor Jeff and Joy: have you considered or tried getting a tour of with BYU Radio or BYU TV?
Glad you guys had a good time.
So fun that you were able to cross paths with an apostle of God!
The mascots name is Cosmo the Cougar. He's awesome and literally my favorite mascot. He makes the news with some of the stunts made during some of BYUs games.
Notice the fruits, Jeff 💟🙏
Cosmo Cougar! Best mascot in all of sports!
