- Jose Villarruel has been a substitute teacher in Fontana since 2013 - the same year he started living in his car - and when the pandemic hit, his hours were cut. But on Thursday, a former student presented him with a $27,000 check.
That kid who help the teacher is such an Angel.....
Be that as it may, it's not about him. It's about how the school districts leave their own behind in a pinch. Also how teachers are so under appreciated in this country. It's truly beyond sad.

God bless that teacher. Never quite on a job that left him high and dry, that is determination to admire. Beautiful soul that man has.
God gave me these four steps via divine revelation. He said anyone who does all four are guaranteed a divine revelation of their own. They are the mustard seed of Faith, the bare minimum amount of effort he's willing to accept before he reveals himself to you personally. Believe or not, do for yourself and see. Forgive your parents, brake down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. There's deep spiritual significance in these steps. Every one is important, and it's the least God accepts. Three books of the bible will be enough for the revelation. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. I'm not talking about signs, feelings, etc, but am honest to goodness one on one conversation with God. An actual meeting. Unmistakable, and unable to be misinterpretaed. He told me that he's guaranteed the steps to work 100%. You just need to do them guininly. It's not hard. Do those steps in that order please. It's all True. I promise.

He said that he sends most of his money to Mexico to support his family. I know that teachers don't earn much, but he wasn't forced to live in his car due to not enough income. Nothing a union could do.
I had gone with my mother for a district union meeting. It's honestly a union provided by the district. So more of a puppet show for stressed workers.
Subs aren't always represented by unions, and he's not a permanent employee. When you are a sub or an adjunct, you are "at-will" according to Title 5 in California. Nothing the union can do about your employment status. It's screwed up.

Here in Afghanistan we are thought to think of your teachers as your parents, they teach us pretty much everything we in need in life. Without them the humanity is in trouble.

This man was a substitute teacher. They get a bad rap for being a substitute but this man took all the licks the kids dolled out to him and kept on ticking. He also supported his family back in his home country and lived in his car for 8 years. Talk about incredible sacrifice. Talk about seeing honor in plain sight. I'm so glad the young man helped him. Talk about paying it forward! The giving will keep going on and on through these wonderful men. Their giving has inspired me more than they will ever know!

He supports his family in Mexico, that is why he cannot afford an apartment. He is substitute teacher. He does not work enough hours to be able to afford both an apartment and supporting his family in Mexico. Now with the pandemic all his hours were cut, so he has no income.

We need Senior only low income apartments. Senior only! I lived in rental assistance low income apartments and it was hell! So many people squatting in there using all the hot water so I had none for a shower for work! I was tortured by second hand cigarette smoke pouring into my apartment constantly! We need to take the best care of our seniors first!

This story just brought tears to my eyes. I used to be a Substitute Teacher. The students at the school were wonderful and they showed me unconditional love. No other place have I ever felt so truly loved "just because." This story shows that the younger generation is compassionate and will step to help those in need. The Teacher deserved exactly what he got. My deceased Aunt Annie used to say, "you get what you put out and when you get it back you will get it back double."

This is very touching. A few thousand dollars more and that is a Toyota Siena Hybrid with a 120v socket where he will have space for a small mattress to sleep on his back and power up a microwave, water heater, and a small electric cooker.

In his interview he does not want to get an apartment because he would rather send that money back to his family in Mexico. Also he is not guaranteed employment at other states outside California

My aunt migrated from mexico in her 30's as a single mother of 2 girls , worked and went to night school then to college and became a teacher in her 40's and a vice principal of an elementary in Fontana in her 50's , she passed away in December from pancreatic cancer. She devoted her life to children and her family just like this noble man.

I remember this teacher from our elementary school worked weekends at a Kmart and I never understood why. I thought all teachers made loads of money because they had tough jobs. It’s a shame that there are so many in situations like this.

I have seen teachers working 2-3 part times.
When I was a kid I didn't understand importance of teachers to our society, but now I know their importance. Their salary starts from 25k and doesn't even exceed 65K per year.That's not enough.
I had Mr.V as a substitute teacher twice in Summit High around 2017, Junior year. He was very conpassionate and welcoming. I didn't know Mr.V was going through this unfortunate situation until now. It breaks my heart to say the least. Thank you Steven for helping Mr.V!

Now that made me cry. That former student is a truly good man as well as the others who donated and showed up. He is right, we don’t show the good teachers how much they are appreciated and how much they have affected and influenced our lives in a positive way.

8 years living in his car ! God bless that man he’s been through a lot . That kid is so kind to not only take notice and make it public but to act on his instincts and gut feeling to help him . Many of us could do the same but ignore that internal voice most of the time because we make our problems so big we think we don’t have the time or finances to help someone in need . This young man didn’t have the finances and probably has problems of his own but had the brains and will power to see a way through this obstacle.

The American dream is not a lie. Where is it guaranteed in the Constitution a good life with no troubles? It doesn't. Not everyone is dealt a fair hand, but that doesn't disqualify you from having a good life. My grandparents had no higher than a middle school education. They were dirt poor and worked as farm hands but managed to raise 8 kids during Jim Crow (my mom included) who are ALL college educated and did well in life. My brother spent most of his 20s and early 30s in prison. He got out of prison and got his CDLs and has been a trucker for years. He has a beautiful home and 3 cars. I am a double minority and just purchased my second home. The American dream is real. Americans just need to do a better job helping, loving and supporting each other like the Bible teaches, especially those in tough spots like this teacher.
As sweet and humble as he is, im sure most of that money will go home to help his family. What a sweet and AMAZING man he is!!👏
