He makes realistic comparisons between features of bikes within the appropriate range. Everyone knows a 1k bike isn't a 10k bike, but we do want to know what we are missing that other bikes close in price offer. Thank you, Alan!
Bossnut owner here, love this bike. Wouldn't swap it for anything else. Low price means I don't give 2 tosses if I crash or damage it. The most important part is fun. Smaller wheels are more fun for me and it's no fun having no money in your wallet either.
I always find it pretty clever how the budget bikes use components from different brands. Like my cassette is sunrace, my rear derailleur is shimano deore and my front chain ring/crack is fsa. It isn’t pretty but it works
You should do just 500 more, you kind of break through and get great bikes at that point like, hawk hill 2, giant trance 3, vitus mythique vrx and YT jeffsy those are worth your money
Calibre triple b has NX 12spd a dropper post and a 140mm sektor fork with 130 in the rear. For 400 more than the Bossnut it’s wayyy better value than any of these bikes
I used to have the old Voodoo Canzo, it was an excellent beginner full-suss for the time, but that was about 5 years ago and it looks like this is the exact same frame, with the outdated geometry and a respray. The fact that the seat tube cannot accept a dropper post speaks to how old the frame design is. It seems like they cut some corners with the spec as well, since the old model came with Maxxis tyres and Shimano deore brakes.
Would be nice to see some reviews of some lesser known brands like Cotic, Stanton, Ragley and OnOne etc. Even maybe Orange too. Seems like most reviews favour the same old bikes from larger manufacturers.
I'm on my third Giant Trance (2) that I've had for 3 or 4 years (my first was £1000 entry model) and was looking into getting another but... having got back into motorcycles have decided that, much like any other popular hobby, customers are being royally ripped off. If you can get a brand spanking new 125cc motorcycle for £2100 (Benelli TNT) which doesn't need forks servicing every 10 hours, has far far far more tech and engineering in its construction, then you really shouldn't be paying more than a couple of grand for a top spec full suss mtb. And don't get me started on how quickly things wear out on bikes these days....
I had a RockShox fitted bike before this, thought it was just fine. Got this bike and COULDN'T believe how poorly the X-Fusion performed. Threw a MonarchRT3 on the back and surprise! It feels like a proper bike again. Now I have to set about replacing the fork. I didn't quite have the money at the time, nor was it in stock, but I would have loved to get the VRX instead of the VR initially. Great review. Everything said was exactly how I felt on the trail. It's a good upgrade platform. Like I'm keeping the Deore drivetrain I think it works a treat. But I had to add the dropper and change the suspension and it will take me nearly to the same cost as the VRX. (But I won't be using garbage SX lol)
But the problem is that most of the people buying these bikes are not going to do that, because they probably don't even know how to remove their fork.
The calibre bossnut is now available as the polygon Vander t7 through bikesonline I bought one yesterday and was looking for reviews when I came across information that polygon was the manufacturer for calibre and had rebranded the bike. Great review and can't wait to get my vander/bossnut
I Rode Fort William World Cup downhill on my bossnut. It handled all the rock gardens, drops and I even sent the river gap! Amazing bike so glad they're made.
I really hope this 29er trend stays with the racers and pros, they make riding most trails a vanilla experience, where I live anyway. I have an old 2006 Mongoose Teocali with 26" wheels and took it out on the weekend for a laugh ... so much more fun than my 27" bikes.
Not sure when this was filmed but the Vitus was £999 pre-covid, before demand drastically overtook supply. i have the VRS with 150mm dropper, 12 speed SX and beefier forks (+10mm travel +2mm stanchions) among other smaller changes for £1150 pre-covid, which is a clear winner for me, and the green looks sick!
The V1, V2 and Evo were based on the Polygon Recon from 2014 but with a modified rear end; the rocker linkage became a one-piece design and then the rear axle went from quick release to thru axle on the V2. The latest seems to be a more custom frame but still using the same rear. I guess Polygon are not going to let Calibre use there latest designs as this would weaken their brand but, as they have almost no presence on the UK market, they are happy to develop Calibre's budget, but really good, full suspension bikes. Now Mike Sanderson has gone to Planet X it will be interesting to see if the relationship continues and/or Polygon start developing bikes for Planet X.
Interesting you say that - I noticed that too. I've not ridden a Bossnut myself but I rented a Siskiu T8 a few days ago on a trip to Scotland and was totally blown away by the performance, given the cost they go for. My normal bikes are a 2016 Rose Granite Chief with Pikes and full XT and a 2020 Intense Carbine with Ohlins RFX 36 Evo with full XT, Carbon bars, etc, as a point of reference. I'd love to try a Bossnut, just out of general curiosity as I reckon it'd surprise me too
Indeed, I had a triple B that look 95% polygon. Even the factory grip is the same. It came from the same womb. OEM I guess. Is polygon not popular in uk or elsewhere?

I don't understand the statement about the Mythique being stronger in 27.5" than the 29" versions. What negative effect does the 1.5" difference in BB height make to the rider? I understand the extra few lbs in weight can make a difference in weight but surely the range of rider weights and carry gear can have just as much effect if not more?
You should also try the Devron zerga fs6.7, which comes in at ~1150 pounds and has 27.5 inch wheels and a Rockshox Sektor fork, or even the new 29er Btwin rockrider am 100, which has recieved a massive overhaul

The Caliber Boss nuts swing arm looks like the same swing arm on my Polygon Sisku. I am wondering if it could be a generic swing arm that some company makes and sells to bike ferms to keep the cost down? But if you're interested Google some images of the Sisku and this Boss nut and have a look at the swing arms.
Luke wilson calibre bike is so called handcrafted in Indonesia. So it’s actually a polygon Mtb. Just a different sticker. Like a mobile phone, computer,...all OEM.
How would the New boardman MTR 8.6 2021 model fair against the bossnut in quality parts etc ? And the new giant fathom 2 ??? Got a grand ish to spend,,, for first bike,,, or should I start with maybe a bullet proof bizango????
Good idea! I recently got the mythique 27 vr and I just think the full suspension is a huge upgrade for the small price difference. Whatever you think!
weird unpopular opinion of mine: XT 10 speed is better than a GX 12 speed. Hanger alignment is less critical on lower speed bikes so it's easier to tune/stays in tune longer. The consumables (cassette/chain) are much cheaper too and it's pretty significantly lighter. The wider gear range or larger steps between gears aren't a big deal in comparison to those advantages IMO.
better off with a hardtail- more fun and better quality at this price. I ride a nukeproof scout race (seen in profile pic)would have that over any of these
I agree with you man. I own a full suspension bike. But ride my hardtail way more. It's way faster than my full suspension and climbing ability is on a different level
@@jasonlewis6914 A hardtail isn't always faster, it really depends on where you live. My local trails are mostly lots of high speed steep tech, huge drops and jumps. Most mtb riders in my area ride enduro bikes or even downhill bikes that they just hike up.

No reason why not, just have to make sure you got the correct damping tune and air can size for the bike. But someone like TF Tuned should be able to help with that.
Which bike is comparable to decathlon rock rider AM100s? It has longer suspension, 12 gears and a dropper post but not sure about the geometry. The pirice is 150 more than vitus.
to be fair IDK if it would be a great comparison. I think I would like to see it but the bikes are fairly different. The D7 is definitely meant to be an entrance level cross country bike due to its head angle while the Bossnut has a 66 angle. Thats competing with the polygon T7 head angle of 65 (or 65.5 for the 29er)
I've seen it published that the Bossnut is the same bike as the Polygon Vander T7. Is this so? And if so where can the T7 be ordered from for UK delivery?
It’s very similar to the Polygon Siskiu T7 (the Calibre is made in the Polygon factory) . Google is your friend for finding out where to get one in the UK.
hi guys not sure if anybody will see this but i am looking at getting the vitus mythique vr 29 at one point it is mentioned to go for the higher spec model with 27.5 wheels due to the bottom bracket being too high can you explain this a little bit more... im a bit of a noob when it comes to technical specs how would this impact me as a rider if i get the vr 29 for reference im 6'2 so i will be getting the XL frame

The Voodoo frame just looks off. Crazy high top tube. One could be tricked into believing the Vitus is an expensive bike. The Caliber is just adorable like an oldschool British sports car.
aaand Bossnut is still UK only...so sad. I don't know of any full sus bikes offered here in USA for these prices. The ones that I do know of are not even worth looking at. I own a Nukeproof Scout, but I'd totally be interested in getting something like the bossnut if it were available to ship here.
@@asianskywalker 67 degree head angle is what a 130mm trail bike had in 2013, long chainstays (personal preference I guess), and a 442 reach on a large seems "short". It is incredibly well specced for the money though.

Don’t know perhaps would be better off getting a £1000 hard tail

Polygon Siskiu D5 costs $1100 and it looks amazing. If you have a bigger budget than the D7 or even the T7 are also amazing. I personally also like the Mythique
There isn't much direct comparison with the Mythique against the Bossnut, and too much praise and reminiscing on the latter. Tell us exactly what makes it so great.
The vitus has.. well, bad suspension. The cheaper X fusion stuff really isnt great and suspension is very expensive to upgrade aftermarket so its not feasible to buy £500-600 later. The bossnut has really great RS stuff and although they trade blows here and there, I think the suspension is a major thing. Also intangible things like ride characteristic etc. Even spending more the Triple B obliterates the top spec mythique undeniably. (even though the vrx does have a stiffer fork, the triple b is in a different realm of performance in nearly every other category)
i bought the Voodoo Canzo as my first mountain bike not long ago, do you think its good for a beginner that doesnt really have any experience of how a good bike should feel?
Dude, it's perfectly more than good enough for a non experienced mountain biker. Geometry is something you will get to understand after a while and only if you get into mtb deep otherwise, it's perfectly good.
I had a 2015 Voodoo Zobop for my first full-suss, which is the exact same frame as the Canzo but just an older spec. It's an excellent beginner full-susser and more than capable for general trail riding. The only downsides are that you will struggle to get a dropper post to fit the kinked seat tube design and the geometry is quite behind the times since it is basically a 2015 frame resprayed. These are all things that can be overlooked until your riding progresses to the point where you will buy a better bike anyway.
@@superspecky4eyes i have noticed that the standard seat post does not drop down alot, ive been looking into maybe cutting the seat post down, i measure it all up and i could probably chop about 2.5 inches off it safely and still have enough minimum insertion. a dropper post is my next thing but now you have said that i might not be getting one if thats the case

That is very possible. Many Taiwanese bikes share parts. They may be catalog bikes.
The Bossnut is made by Polygon for Calibre.
@@cadenhinshaw9038 Polygons come from Indonesia, as for the Caliber....?
@@cadenhinshaw9038 But looking at the MTB Riders statement, Indonesia too!
Luke wilson calibre bike is so called handcrafted in Indonesia. So it’s actually a polygon Mtb. Just a different sticker. Like a mobile phone, computer,...all OEM.
What you think of all mautain decathlon full sus bikes? This year they make a really good bikes for really low prices.
How would the New boardman MTR 8.6 2021 model fair against the bossnut in quality parts etc ? And the new giant fathom 2 ??? Got a grand ish to spend,,, for first bike,,, or should I start with maybe a bullet proof bizango????
The reason all the Boss nut's are gone are because so many you tube channels are reviewing. Save some bikes for the riders.
I am just mad that that bossnut dus not schip outside the UK, a shame if you ask me
I'm planning on buying the vitus nucleus and upgrading the suspension over time, thoughts?
Good idea! I recently got the mythique 27 vr and I just think the full suspension is a huge upgrade for the small price difference. Whatever you think!
How do you guys get it. It’s like always out of stock. When do they restock?
weird unpopular opinion of mine: XT 10 speed is better than a GX 12 speed.
Sick video 👍🚵🏻♂️
What are the frame weldings like? Do the frames have bad welding?
better off with a hardtail- more fun and better quality at this price.
I’m looking for a bike and I’m struggling to find a good one that can mostly excel at jumping slope style while still keeping me grounded on a gnarly downhill any recommendations on spec or bikes under £1600-£1000
Really enjoyed this
How do Decathlon bikes of Rockrider compare to these bikes. Similar price range
Will you guys be doing a hardtail of the year for 2020 for £500 and £1000?
Hey, im 12 in Australia and I’m quite short looking to upgrade to full sus but i don’t have much to spend and im looking at a second hand polygon siskiu d5 for 1250 and. Just checking if this is a good idea or do you have any other comparisons
Could you buy the vitus mythique and then buy a rockshox rear shock to put on
No reason why not, just have to make sure you got the correct damping tune and air can size for the bike. But someone like TF Tuned should be able to help with that.
Which bike is comparable to decathlon rock rider AM100s? It has longer suspension, 12 gears and a dropper post but not sure about the geometry. The pirice is 150 more than vitus.
Yall forget the Rockrider AM100S, might be the best valued full suspension enduro/ AM bike for 1500€
Excellent review 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Should I get the Giant Stance 2
Could you compare the Bossnut to the 2021 Polygon Sisku D7 ???
to be fair IDK if it would be a great comparison. I think I would like to see it but the bikes are fairly different. The D7 is definitely meant to be an entrance level cross country bike due to its head angle while the Bossnut has a 66 angle. Thats competing with the polygon T7 head angle of 65 (or 65.5 for the 29er)
With the vitus can you explain why you say the small wheel size was the best option?
Because I don’t have a lot a money should I go for the calibre boss nut. But second hand
If it's been well cared for, then the Bossnut is an excellent choice.
Im current waiting on a calibre triple b
Will they be making these bossnut again ?
I've seen it published that the Bossnut is the same bike as the Polygon Vander T7. Is this so? And if so where can the T7 be ordered from for UK delivery?
It’s very similar to the Polygon Siskiu T7 (the Calibre is made in the Polygon factory) . Google is your friend for finding out where to get one in the UK.
@@MBRmagazine The Bossnut is now £1500 and the Polygon is £1900. Is the Bossnut the best at these prices?
hi guys not sure if anybody will see this but i am looking at getting the vitus mythique vr 29
at one point it is mentioned to go for the higher spec model with 27.5 wheels due to the bottom bracket being too high
can you explain this a little bit more... im a bit of a noob when it comes to technical specs
how would this impact me as a rider if i get the vr 29
for reference im 6'2 so i will be getting the XL frame
Are the polygons what they sell at go outdoors now the same as the calibre but rebranding?
Polygon made the Calibre bikes, so basically yes but the other way round.
@@MBRmagazine have you done a review of the equivalent polygon model to the calibre bossnut ? So what would be the 2022 model bossnut ?
I've just got a boardman MTR 8.6 its £1000 and it's a 29er and has sr suntour xcr air 34mm stanchions and and has a rockshox deluxe select and has a good modern geometry and wasnt in your selection my model is a 2021
Polygon D5...or their T frame set
The Voodoo frame just looks off. Crazy high top tube. One could be tricked into believing the Vitus is an expensive bike. The Caliber is just adorable like an oldschool British sports car.
Great Vid

Get out the way
aaand Bossnut is still UK only...so sad. I don't know of any full sus bikes offered here in USA for these prices. The ones that I do know of are not even worth looking at. I own a Nukeproof Scout, but I'd totally be interested in getting something like the bossnut if it were available to ship here.
Fezzari
I have a 2018 Bossnut and I love riding it here is Washington State. Just ordered the Fezzari Abajo Peak but I'm 12 weeks out from delivery.
Polygon offers a bike with the same frame and similar price because they are made in the same factory.
Marin Hawk Hill. Best bang-for-buck in the us period.
Just get polygon siskiu T7. It's about the same price but with a dropper post.
Where can buy the calibre bossnut?
What can you do on a bossnut can you do like 18ft jumps and go to bike park
Sure, if you’re smooth and have got the skills.
polygon siskiu d7 is $1000 in indonesia
is the stick the included in the price?
Shame the Carrera Titan X wasn't tested. The spec looks great for the money.
Geometry is shit
@@xx-----------xx873 what makes the geometry shit?
Halfords did offer to send us a Titan X a while ago but they must have gone out of stock.
@@asianskywalker 67 degree head angle is what a 130mm trail bike had in 2013, long chainstays (personal preference I guess), and a 442 reach on a large seems "short".
It is incredibly well specced for the money though.
@@xx-----------xx873 Head angle isn't the be all and end all. You wouldn't want anything steeper than 67 degrees though, I agree.
Can you put a 40t chainring on the Mythyque?
Can seat be lowered?
Missed out the polygon d7
Was looking at the voodoo but after this bit bummed you’re saying it’s not that good 😌 £1000 sounded good but will need a dropper, better tyres, better brakes by the time you’ve added those perhaps another £300 or more and it’s not sounding that good 😒 worth £1000 as a first full sus? Don’t know perhaps would be better off getting a £1000 hard tail
No polygon?! Was hoping I'd see it here but I guess they are still short
The polygon vander t7 is the same bike as the bossnut... I have it. And bikes online has em in-stock
What about the people in the USA. Can they buy these bikes?
Bossnut now at £1500. Is it still worth it?
How do you get such good clear audio outside?
Lapel mic’s.
Nice one .
where is the polygon sisku d5
I still cant afford 1000 for a bike where can you go for second hand bikes is it just the local sellers or is there a specific place shop forum that caters for folk like me
eBay, pinkbike buy and sell forums.
The boardman fs pro is the best for the price it is £1550 and the parts are worth up to £3000
Does the bossnut have a tapered headtube?
Yes
the bossnut frame looks ever so similar to the polygon t7, wonder if they come from the same factory in Indonesia
That's exactly what I was thinking too...
Yes, the Bossnut frame is made by Polygon.
That makes perfect sense then! Cheers
Polygon has internal cable routing .
@@jimw8615 only the polygon sisku models. The polygon Vander is still external like the bossnut
I just want something cheap with full suspension which looks good
Polygon Siskiu D5 costs $1100 and it looks amazing. If you have a bigger budget than the D7 or even the T7 are also amazing. I personally also like the Mythique
none of these are available in Arizona
best video
I want one got Christmas any good and please tell me the cons
@@skfunk4550 awesome thanks for the input :D
@@superspecky4eyes i have noticed that the standard seat post does not drop down alot, ive been looking into maybe cutting the seat post down, i measure it all up and i could probably chop about 2.5 inches off it safely and still have enough minimum insertion. a dropper post is my next thing but now you have said that i might not be getting one if thats the case
Can you sill order this in August 2020?
You'll have to check the brand's websites out for stock availability.
