    Very cool. Another musical use for the Opsix that I hadn’t thought of. The ability to write your own algorithm and assign any mode to any operator makes the mind work … it’s like, oh, I could also build a 3 op FM synth, then send its audio into a 3-part filterbank …then start modulating all sorts of things…

      Oh I have been going through all those videos, especially with my opsix coming on Wednesday. What you have shown me is far beyond anything I’d ever be able to come up with on my own.
      I know this is probably a much bigger ask then I am making it seem but it would be incredibly valuable if you added to the series by walking through how to make patches of “common instruments.” For example, take basses. There are upright basses, electric basses, electric basses with slap/pop articulations, 808s, etc. Being able to make FM versions of these would be very beneficial from a music perspective but also for a just learning more about how FM works perspective as well.

    Brilliant. Although I had some reservations about it, I broke down and bought the Opsix thanks to you and I am glad I did. Really the evolution of synths beyond the labels of FM, Subtractive or Additive . Hydrasynth OSC mutants hinted in this direction but Opsix is crystalizing a new way based on a networked array of definable operational blocks. I hope KORG develop this further and give us a bi-timbral OP9 in the near future.

    Man, I’m really loving the flexibility of this synth. The crazy part is, I wasn’t even planning on owning it! I’d bough a Dreadbox/Polyend Medusa and it just wouldn’t keep tune. I had a couple other issues with it as well so I returned it. I decided then I didn’t care about analog and I just wanted a flexible and dependable modern synth. Shortly after repacking the Medusa, I saw your video on building a Juno inside the OP6 and I knew immediately that this is an incredibly powerful, modular synth. And it would hold its tune!
    I’ve had it for a few weeks and not a day goes by that I don’t make at least one patch in it. It sits incredibly well in a dense mix and I’m very happy with it. TBH I probably wouldn’t have bit the bullet had I not gotten a good deal on a demo unit. Though it does look super cool and has 100% proven it deserves its space in my studio, I still feel some kind of way about paying that much considering it’s outside build and Raspberry PI insides. Also it does lack bottom end compared to my Yamaha DX. Still, it’s probably my second most used synth right now after my all time favorite synth, my ESQ-1. I really hope Korg does a major update like multistage/loopable envelopes, more mod destinations/sources, more waveforms/filter models, more FX…Looking at the capabilities of the other synths in the series, I believe there should be more CPU to add a few more features.
    Anyways, thank you for inspiring me to get an OP 6! It’s the most underrated synth of the series IMO.
    TLDR; OP6 GOOD.

    However, your fantastic videos have not only helped me get over my DX7 PTSD, but really shown me soo many new ideas for patching and routing - I'm not scared of FM anymore, and the OPSIX is an incredibly fun and inspiring instrument to me!!!!
    Please please please would you consider doing a tutorial to recreate the amazing singing monk 1990's VST "Delay Lama" by AudioNerdz? I'm sure the OPSIX can do something close, I'm trying really hard to do it but I know with your skills you would nail it!

    So I was playing around with this patch (which is PHENOMENAL btw), and I paused the video right before you started going into the arpeggiator, and I started to mess with the saw wave's feedback and width amounts.
    First off, holy shit, the textures you get are SO, SO good!!! But then, I made the WEIRDEST discovery. Like I genuinely have no idea what's happening.
    Set the feedback amount to 79%, and the width amount to 15%, and then just start kicking the octave of OP1 down slowly.
    If you get the same thing I did, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING BECAUSE IT'S BLOWING MY MIND!!!
    Also thank you for all of these vids, seriously. They've really helped me unlock some new and weird ideas from this synth, I just need to figure out why my computer won't recognize it, and then I'm gonna download firmware 2.0 and just get lost in this beautiful thing all over again. Cheers!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 года назад +1

      I wish I had played with the width a bit in the video because there are loads of different vocal-y sounds that a thinner waveform can coax out (try a square wave with a low width for an alternative vibe).
      I'll have to try out your feedback recipe, but I know that a saw modulating a saw can give a pseudo-sync effect so it might be something like that - I'll have to have a play!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 года назад

      For Karplus-Strong, to do it properly at least, you would need a delay line which could change its length quickly, and scaled to note input - the opsix doesn't have this (and believe me, I've tried!). That said, you can still create some interesting, atonal, bendy string like sounds by messing with the delay effects and modulating their delay times in the vpatch.
