  • This 1923 film features Basil Rathbone in an early role. No complete prints are known to exist, but it was released, very heavily abridged, on the 9.5mm format for home viewing. This is a rough transfer of a rare 9.5mm copy in my collection. For more information about this film, check out:

Glad you like it! No, sadly that's all I have of his early work, which is mainly lost, but there's always hope more will turn up.

Remarkable! Just remarkable. Thank you very much for this upload. It is very much appreciated. It is a blessing to see a film of one of the finest actors ever from the silent era.

Thank you so much for putting this up! It's wonderful when collectors open their vaults and this is no exception. It's intriguing to see how they adapted such a verbose play into a silent, short film. Basil Rathbone is a treasure, as always, but there were some nice expressive touches from the actor's playing the Teazles too. Thanks again!

My pleasure! It's very frustrating that a full feature film is only available as this tiny fragment, but at least it gives us a glimpse of the film. Glad it's of interest.

Seeing it in black & white & silent really makes you feel that you are in the Georgian era. A film made today would completely lack that sense of time....
