A quick note about the breath holds. This helps build your endurance by increasing your ability to deal with the build up of lactic acid and increasing your body's ability to perform when it's gasping for oxygen. It's been shown to have thr same benefits as training at high altitude
My favorite active boxer right here. Been watching him since his 2008 Olympics! I also had the pleasure of finally meeting him this summer in his home town. Stand up guy.
I could watch Lomachenko fight all day everyday and still would never get bored. The guy is exciting to watch and his footwork is something to marvel at.
Really interesting to see the full range of what his training involves. Doing math drills while tired sounds great, I might start implementing that myself
I believe all of the brain training methods also help heal the brain from trauma strengthening existing neurons and possibly making new ones!! Very important stuff
Yoooo, Im boxing in college and have been feeling like school work is a chore and in the way of my boxing training.... you just shifted my entire perspective!! Learning differentials is training from now on 🙌 🙌 🙌
As a spearfisherman from hawaii and ex amatuer boxer. I think the diving and breathholding during a 6 hr spearfishing session i managed 7 minutes with no movement. Remember moving or using your muscles burns oxygen so the less you move the longer you can hold your breath. Thats why we used weight belts as well. Helped us get to tge bottom with minimal movement. I feel thats what helped me in boxing. I hated running so never implemented it into my gym routine.
It was mentioned in another comment. But breath holding during swimming or diving has been shown to be extremely effective to increase cardio. Mainly because it trains your body to process lactic acids that builds up. And also it trains your body to continue working when you begin to run low on oxygen.
This is such a well made video. Excellent footage and voice over narration. Loma's training is a huge part of his success and it's great to see it broken down like this. Thanks for taking the time to create this and share it!
8:30 bought a few reflex balls 2 years back after watching Loma do it. I might not ever be a champ, but having passed 180 hours of practice time I believe in my ability to land a punch if needed compared to someone who hasn't done it for as long. Definitely adds to boldness and sense of safety. It's also a good cardio. I jump as if with a skipping rope while throwing hands at the ball. Sometimes try to do a drum-step while punching. Moreover, you don't do the same punch every time like on a punching bag. The ball jumps around unpredictably. Hence, I think I've learned to somewhat adapt to "new situations" and some simple footwork along the way. I'd advise to buy plastic workers glasses as well and wear them during the practice. The string stores all your punching energy and on a compression releases the string as a projectile at your face. It slaps your eyes a lot. And after repairing the string enough times it becomes too short. With some other strings attached to the original string in order to increase the range of motion of the ball, the slap frequency will increase 2fold. I've given up on adding strings after 4. Then the ball has no flexibility and it basically becomes a string with 4 or 5 knots that absorb your punches.
Underwater breathing training is also going all the way. He said he passed out many times doing it. It's the same as being knocked out, passing out under water. Going all the way. True champion!
That means it might be easier to knock him out cause of the damage done, also causes more damage than you will already take from all the hard sparring and fights, so it's unnecessary to stay till passing out and STUPID. This is just like when Marquez drank his own piss, bet any money legends like Chavez and Ali and Leonard would have laughed and said hell no to that.
Passing out underwater is a death sentence even in ridiculously shallow waters. Please bear in mind to never do it without being carefully monitored by a second person

*Brilliant breakdown bro. Love this insight into Loma's routine.* I boxed as an amateur, and I dropped running after many years of pounding the pavement. In later years, I had cartilage removal from both knees. It could have been worse if I had continued running. Instead I swapped it out for skipping and weighted speed walking. I'm still boxing 4 days a week at 55.5 and I love is as much now as I did in my teens and twenties. I'm always learning and improving. The irony though, is that I'm actually cardiovascular fitter now than I was in my younger days. I can do 12 x 3 minute rounds on the bag, shadow boxing etc with 400 - 500 punch output. I also credit my youthful agility to my use of TRT (Testosterone Replacement Treatment) albeit, only 1mg a week, but I feel young again. working with breath exercises is very interesting stuff. It is a confidence booster and it really makes you face that fear of death. My record is 3.5 minutes, i dont do it underwater and i have actually passed out a handful of times.
