    Let’s think about this more. Scrooge McDuck, one of the most infamous cheapskates in fiction, nearly bankrupted himself! That alone made me realize just how badly it messed him up. That made it all the more heartbreaking

    • @grateoraclelewot6326
      @grateoraclelewot6326 3 года назад +189

      Exactly this. Scrooge's greed was always his primary defining trait, and the money bin is what people remember him for. You think of his enemies trying to steal all the money, and his adventures always managing to add to the pile. But never, EVER would you imagine a montage of the mountain of gold going DOWN because he, Scrooge, is SPENDING that much. The show had already suggested that, deep down, family was more important to him than money, but you kind of take it as hokey Disney lip service - and then you SEE it. He has to be dragged away from bankrupting himself. And this coming after we've just seen his family break up again, it's just the most absolutely perfect kind of heartbreaking.
      I also like how, when the plane is perched on the rock, it kinda starts tipping whenever people are arguing and starts straightening out when they're reconciling. I'm bad at symbolism, but I caught that one.

    Now that we know Bradford was behind Della discovering the Spear, it adds another layer of emotions to the slides showcasing them trying to stop Scrouge from rescuing Della. It no longer comes off as his business partners doing what's best for his company and wellbeing, now it comes off as Bradford making sure Della doesn't come back so Scrouge doesn't try adventuring again.

    • @The2ndDimension
      @The2ndDimension  3 года назад +63

      Bradford's role in the first two seasons has so many layers once you know his endgame

    • @cdagaming575
      @cdagaming575 3 года назад +23

      This exactly. He knew that despite it seeming that Della should have been killed in the storm, he didn't wanna take a risk _on the off chance Della's managed to survive_. In the end, he was correct, as due to several unknown variables, Della still survived (As bradford's intent WAS to kill off Della in a way that wouldn't immediatly make him the villan)

  • @ArendAlphaEagle
    @ArendAlphaEagle 3 года назад +711

    It still hurts that Dewey blamed Scrooge for tearing the family apart purely for building the rocket, especially when you've seen the series finale and discover that it was actually Bradford that told Della about the rocket before Scrooge did. This feud was all part of Bradford's plan to stop adventuring in the McDuck family for good, and _it worked for over 10 years._
    Speaking of Bradford, that scene in the series finale also puts him as the blame for speeding up Lunaris's Moonvasion plans all along; hadn't he told Della about the rocket, Della would've never stranded on the moon in the first place, and thus would've Lunaris never encountered her, the rocket and its blueprints to build multiple golden rockets in order to invade Earth. None of this would've happened if Bradford didn't intervene, yet Bradford STILL blames Scrooge's adventuring for the invasion, as seen in the Season 2 finale. Perhaps he was just looking for an excuse to execute his final plan to destroy adventure for good.
    A lot of thought has been put in the characters, plots and purposes; I can think of only very few underutilized plotlines. The history of Della's disappearance is NOT one of those underutilized plotlines, given how much we get out of it even well after Della has returned in the family.

    • @The2ndDimension
      @The2ndDimension  3 года назад +116

      Bradford's role throughout the series is always stunning. He's there from the very first scene with Scrooge in the entire series, working undercover in perfect disguise. The way the show used Let's Get Dangerous as a turning point for his character too was so clever and well done. Truly one of the best TVA villains ever

      About Bradford, nobody knew about the moon people and Della was always gonna fly that ship either way. The only thing that made a difference was that nobody was ready for Della to go to space, so it was the perfect opportunity to send her away. He probably also knew there was a storm going on too so that was also a reason to send her off sooner, since scrooge would have waited for it to end.

    • @ztslovebird
      @ztslovebird 3 года назад +16

      Bradford strikes me as someone who is absolutely TERRIFIED of the unknown. He doesn’t need to know everything, but he DOES need predictability & consistency. Isabella Finch, Scrooge, and other adventurers kept pulling back the curtain of reality & revealing just how much was unknown & unpredictable. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bradford eventually went full Time Keeper & set up an organization to force EVERYONE to follow simple, predictable lives so he would never have to worry about the unknown.

    • @cdagaming575
      @cdagaming575 3 года назад +17

      If anything, Bradford intended to have Della be killed in that storm, not stranded on the moon. Bc of that fluke, she was allowed to survive and encounter Lunaris. Bradford's mistake was that he underestimated Della's pilot abilities, as a normal rocketeer wouldn't have survived the storm and would have taken a much more lethal hit.
      It makes sense, since it was shown in the finale, that he had no remorse in killing off 3 different people, and almost killing off a 4th

    The thing about that scene that stung was remembering Scrooge is a mega tightwad. He wont spend a single penny he doesnt have to.
    Yet he willingly and actively "threw away" a massive chunk of his fortune trying to find Della. It shows how much he cared about her that even his fortune took a back seat. Easily the most greedy, money-grubbing character put money aside, albeit temporarily.

    My only problem with the episode is that they should have changed the ending credits for the episode. It’s very Offputting after that very emotional scene to just hear this very upbeat music with the credits. I think the credits should’ve been an overview shot of the mansion with no music as the credits roll

    • @The2ndDimension
      @The2ndDimension  3 года назад +166

      Considering they couldn’t animate the finial scene fully, even though I like it better that way, it would make sense for them not to have a big enough budget to change the credits. I still think it could of been great if they just had no music play at all, in some ways I like how it is just the normal credits. I feel the off putting nature of the scene to the credits gives the viewers more of a shock, and helps you feel the intensity of the scene. Though I fully understand if people would of preferred an alternative credit’s scene.

    • @BuizelCream
      @BuizelCream 3 года назад +12

      I agree. They should have changed that ending credits with a more suitable soundtrack. It's a Disney property, so they could have least afforded to create one. Tangled the Series (a series running in parallel with Ducktales 2017) got those appropriate ending credit soundtracks when their episodes got depressing and devastating (e.g. Queen for A Day, The Quest for Varian). The Last Crash of the Sunchaser would have become fully theatrical at the end.

    The Ducktales 2017 reboot will go down in history as one of the greatest animated series of all time, and if it doesn't, that's a crying shame. As a fan of the original series and a notorious curmudgeonly hater of all things new, I was blown away by how good this series was and how I liked it even more than the original. Perfect DuckTales scenes?
    Oh, I love so much from the season 1 finale. Everyone get's their time to shine. I for example love how Fenton get's to be brilliant *without* the Gizmoduck armor. But while everyone get's to shine, it's especially true when it comes to Donald.
    He get's to show what a badass he actually is, how well he knows his family (by playing to their strenghts and even using reverse psychology on the nephews and Webby so they can sneak in unnoticed) as well as how far he is willing to go to protect them.
    But one bit that I especially love is when he stands guard to protect the kids from all the Shadow creatures. One of them armed with the Gizmoduck armor, mind you, and he takes them all down, with his bare hands, OFF-SCREEN.
    But what really warms my heart in that scene is his battle cry.
    "Get away from my kids."
    Remember that back in Daytrip of Doom, he yelled at the Beagle boys to "Give me back my boys." But now it's kids. Not nephews, not boys. Kids. Because Webby is part of the family!
    There are a lot more great moments. But this one will always have a special place in my heart.

    having it be an animatic instead of full animation really adds to it too. It gives it the sense of being a flashback (along with it being black & white), and conveys something emotional without making it flashy.

    I really, really like the callback to Christmas On Bear Mountain with that episode-ending pose from Scrooge. It feels like symbolism as that was the most iconic shot from the first ever comic he was in, like a regression to what he used to be with ties to his family in turmoil.

    The last few minutes are a scarily realistic example of how arguments tend to go especially over serious stuff like this. The kids emotions were dialed up to eleven already from the story so were pretty heated to start with but Scrooge snaps back which only makes things worse and it looses him the only other person on the plane who knows the full story being Beakly so it just keeps esclating to the point their saying things they don't mean and it only stops because of the crash. Scrooge made the mistake of not realizing that he's had along time to adjust to Della being gone where as the kids are just now getting the info so their emotions are going to swell and their going to get upset, he had to be the adult and calmly accept his role in what happened so he can get the kids to listen to the rest of it. Because he DID build the rocket, he caused the temptation to exist in the first place knowing full well Della was being really stubborn about going into space. No the entire thing is not his fault but he does hold some of the blame and needed to own up to it instead of stubbornly pushing back.

    But I think the next perfect DuckTales scene was from the Episode “Nightmare on Killmotor Hill”. I am specifically talking about when Leena turns into Magica and the rest of the crew thinks it is actually Magica until Leena saves one of them from a falling chandelier, that’s when Magica tries pulling in Leena until the others save her.

    The spear of Selene split up what Scrooge loved the most, his family, but he was too stubborn to apologise and thus drove them away. After several years, they finally come back to him, but the same thing splits them up again because Scrooge is too stubborn to say what really happened.
    Spoiler warning for season 3 final episode:
    This also makes the reveal that Bradford was the one to tell Della about the spear of Selene even more emotional, since for all of these years, Scrooge has blamed the splitting of his family on himself.

    I absolutely ADORED this scene and sequence from the show. It’s so heartbreaking. You made a great video covering it!
    However, I gotta say the one scene in this show that I would want to be covered and really hit my heart personally is Della’s Moon Lullaby in “Whatever happened to Della Duck.” I cried so much at the way it changes the feeling and meaning of the original game music and rock cover of it that played earlier in the episode. It’s so perfect as a buildup and twist on the song and what it represents. “Adventurous and hopeful” music from the montage becomes a “promise to be there” lullaby to her children she can’t be there for. It even recontexualizes the previous montages music because the moon theme cover playing during that montage now represents that all the while she was trying to get home and rebuild the rocket, she was always hoping to be there for her kids.
    That is my perfect scene. That episode became cemented in my mind with how genius and surprising the usage of the viral and classic moon theme that I’ve heard for years by turning it into the heart and core of that episode and Della as a character. The moon song is now Della’s Lullaby to me forever.

    The Hopping Mall Ending
    Literally every two minutes of True Colors
    That one After the Rain scene
    Lean On Me in Reunion (I know you've already touched on some of these but still)
    No Big Deal in Battle of the Bands
    Definitely several moments in season 3 (the clip from Comic Con of Anne seeing her parents immediately had me in tears)
    And several other moments from other shows
    The Enchanting Grom Fright Dance (The Owl House)
    The final moments of Not What He Seems, the last scene of Gideon Rises, the last scene in Dipper and Mabel Vs The Future, Dipper's confession in Into the Bunker, and the final goodbye in Weirdmaggeddon (Gravity Falls)
    The conversation between Guy and Sam in the episode House (Green Eggs and Ham)
    Twig and Hilda reuniting (Hilda)
    Curtain Call/Time Spent Together (Phineas and Ferb)
    All of Zuko Alone, part 3 and 4 of Sozin's Comet, the final scene of Crossroads of Destiny, Leaves From the Vine, Zuko confronting Ozai, Aang lamenting the loss of Appa, Aang regretting running away, Zuko reflecting on his duel (Avatar)

    I kind of feel like Magica De Spell shouldn't of been the climax of season one, I would have loved if they would have explored more of this type of emotional side, rather than setting up Magica. Maybe even end the season with the moonvasion. Plus I feel like she is treated like a joke the entire series. And in season two they should of made Magica the main threat using the pieces that they built up back in season one.

    The best part about the scene is that delivery. Scrooge looks visibly tired of feeling sorry. And hearing everyone else rant about what he already knows. Tired of being nice, sensitive, because he doesn’t really have to be. It wasn’t his fault, yet he did everything in his power to fix it. Yet, he got the blame from everyone, and frankly, he doesn’t care anymore.
