    Why my jujube tree does not grow any permanent branches and just grows annual branches which fall off every year? The tree is staying small but productive.

    I can not stop eating the dried jujube that I bought from your website. They are absolutely delicious.
    I wish I know about your seedling production before I bought my 2 drafted jujube trees from elsewhere. They are in the ground and I mulched them with plenty of cow manure as your advice and hopefully we will get some fruits this year.

      Hi Lien, I am pleased you are enjoying our dried jujubes! We love them too :) Good luck with your trees. If they are grafted they may produce some pesky suckers from the rootstocks (they tend to do this) but you can mow them down regularly to control them. Do not spray the suckers as the poison can travel into the parent tree too. If you want true-to-type, sucker-free trees please get in touch.

      May I ask about the dried jujubes? Are there any preservative in the dried fruits? The reason I ask because I was thinking to buy and send some of them to my mum overseas who is sick. They are best to stew with chicken and lotus seed for the sick. Many thanks

    Hello from USA. Thank you for sharing how to plant and I will look for pruning video. 2 questions: don you find the shoots spreading and invading space? I don’t want to plant and have it send suckers that I can’t control in all directions. Secondly, I’m in zone 6. I know the tree will survive the cold, but does it have enough heat hours to ripen with 5-6 months solid growing season?
    Thank you!!

    • @lisadabbs2181
      @lisadabbs2181 2 года назад +2

      I know this is an old post, but I will give you my opinion. Most Jujubes are grafted on a wild seedling rootstock which is very thorny and will send suckers in all directions. "Just Fruits and exotics" nursery in Florida sells Jujubes varieties grown on their own roots that are less invasive. The good thing for people like you who live in colder areas is that, even if the tree dies during the winter, it will send new shoots from its own roots which is the variety you planted.
      There're forums where people talk about growing jujubes in the colder zones. Also there're varieties for shorter seasons. There's plenty of information online, you just have to do some research. Good luck...

      @@lisadabbs2181 I now have 3 jujube that all survived the winter. With a bucket and leaves over them. Unfortunately deer and rabbits ate some of the new growth, so they are trying to grow new leaves. I covered them with chicken wire so they are now protected. I notice the growth of new leaves is slow. Any other advice, and would it be ok to fertilize this late in the season?

    • @lisadabbs2181
      @lisadabbs2181 2 года назад +1

      @@jimmyp3161 I wouldn't fertilize it so late in the season, specially in your zone. It would encourage it to produce tender growth and you don't want that. Better wait to fertilize it during the spring when it comes out of dormancy. If I were you I would build some kind of barrier around its roots to contain them.

    • @jimmyp3161
      @jimmyp3161 2 года назад +1

      @@lisadabbs2181 how deep does the barrier need to be to contain roots? The trees are near the edge of a forest, so as long as they don’t aggressively spread to my kiwi about 20-30’ (10 meters) away I am ok. Will they spread that far? I am not familiar with jujubes yet, and your insight is helpful.

    My jujube is small and still the same size as it was sent and planted on the ground 2 years ago. We live in Melbourne and we have clay soil.
    What can I do to help it grows bigger faster?

    • @jujubeaustralia2492
      @jujubeaustralia2492  4 года назад +1

      Hi Lien, thanks for your message. I'm not sure from where you received your jujube tree or its variety, but it is probably a grafted tree (it won't be one of ours on its own roots which we have just started selling this year). My only recommendation would be to ensure the tree receives full sun for most of the day. Clay soil can be OK but free draining is best. If the tree is only small as you say, you may wish to transplant it whilst still dormant to a full sun position, and where the soil is reasonably free draining if possible. You can also add some composted cow manure to the surface to help stimulate some growth, especially since it has shown no growth after a couple of years. Good luck!

    Dear Dr. Jujube. im planning to plant my first jujube tree, but i want it to remain small(max -/+2,5m). How do i attain this goal?

    • @jujubeaustralia2492
      @jujubeaustralia2492  Год назад

      Hi! The easiest way to keep the tree small is to prune it to your preferred height during the winter time. If you find that it is getting too tall during the summer you can also cut the growth branches which will limit the height. Good luck!

    Hi! Thanks for making this available! I am wondering is there anything we can do to aid the jujube tree in opening up from dormancy? For young trees in ground.

    • @jujubeaustralia2492
      @jujubeaustralia2492  4 года назад +1

      Jujubes tend to break dormancy quite late (September mostly), but timing will depend upon weather where you are. It is best to wait for the weather to warm and the tree will take off naturally. If you really wanted to, you could enclose it within a plastic guard to increase temperature and it should break dormancy earlier.
