Here's my hot take for Zexal fans specifically:
I _don't_ want Zexal to get another season. The show ended perfectly in my opinion. The only way I would want it to return is if they delve deeper into-
    *MASSIVE ZEXAL SPOILERS AHEAD:*
-how exactly Astral's chaos (Yuma) became separated during his duel against Don Thousand. And even that could be shown in a flashback during some kind of crossover movie.

Zexal had a lot of rewrites and unexplained lore due to being shortened from 300 episodes to 150. You can really tell in the final season when they use Astral's spaceship as a way to string all sorts of scenes together. Honestly, it's amazing that the show was as good as it was considering how much went wrong at the last minute. Here's what we know so far:
      1. Dr. Faker's plans were originally planned to extend beyond the world duel carnival arc. He was quickly defeated to move the story along.
      2. There was some sort of subplot about Yuma, Utopia, and Astral being connected. Astral's creator, Enna and Yuma's mother are the only characters in the entire series to share a hairstyle, meaning they might have been the same person. During the Eclipse duel, there are also some throwaway lines about Utopia being "familiar" that never gets followed up on.
      3. Astral's memories never get explained to the audience. We see the first few, but after a while, he stops sharing them.
      4. Two planned mechanics never appeared in the show, those being SXYZ and Double evolutions. To this day, we know nothing besides the names. A staff member also claimed that synchros were coming, but that might have been a lie.
      5. There was going to be a storyline in which two aliens named Arco and Proto manipulated Yuma and Kite, culminating in their rematch. We know nothing about this arc except how it would've began.
      6. There was also a cut storyline involving the Barians being stranded on Earth. The Alito duel seems to be recycled from one of those cut episodes.
      7. In one episode of the show, Dumon challenges Yuma to a duel, then leaves for absolutely no reason. Clearly this duel was cut for time.
      8. Don Thousand was originally going to become yet another evil counterpart to Astral. There's also evidence that the plotline of him absorbing the Barians was a last minute addition. It seems to have been a way to resolve the character's stories by killing them off.

5D’s hot take: The plot of season one of 5D’s was actually an amazing because it actually added more ancient past lore to before duel monsters was a card game, like there’s the oricalcos, the Egyptians, Alexander who was exploring a pyramid full of capsule monsters for more power and finally our big boi for 5Ds that adds more duel monsters history, Earthbound Immortals vs the Crimson Dragon and its dragon servants, which is by far my favorite of the ancient duel monsters history stuff (I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS IT SUCKS!!)

The card game IN UNIVERSE was for children. Pegasus had an add featuring a kid to sell packs. This is a children card games. Stop pretending Yugioh was that mature just because it featured mild dark themes. It’s literally a shonen, meaning young boys. Its for kids.

@@terencebcShonen only means “boy” in a narrow sense when referring to manga and anime. It’s not referring to boys in a broader sense in that regard.
The narrow sense refers to junior high and high school age males. So Shonen manga and anime are for early to late teen boys between 12 and 18. You are aware that this is now officially a fact and that numerous sources are now referencing this information. And Weekly Shonen Jump is confirmed by Nakano to be for boys 15 to 18. Yugioh was published in that magazine. Meaning it is for a teenage demographic. The in-universe argument isn’t a factor here. The real life OCG is for 12+. Meaning it is for young teen players at least. And given the games complex rules and very graphic images on their early release cards, it’s understandable why Konami advertised the game to be targeted towards that age group.

I got a Zexal hot take-
Yuma is honestly an over hated protagonist.
Sure he’s not really likable in the earlier episodes but I do think he becomes better as the series progresses.
Plus he’s way more relatable than we give him credit for.
He starts off as a complete novice but over time he grows and learns from his experiences.
Plus this kid has had to endure so much. From loosing his parents to having most of his friends betray him and die right in front of him.
(Keep in mind this kid is 11 I think btw.)
The fact that an eleven year old had to go through the wringer and still tried to see the best in everyone is incredible.

HOT TAKE (It's gonna make a lot of you angry but...) :
    Judai's/Jaden's character development is overrated.
And I mean Seasons 3 and a some of 4. Every plot surrounding it is very random and short-lived:
    - Why did his friends all have these "Emotion Seals" on their faces?
    - Why where these seals needed to be extracted to creat Super Polymerization?
    - Why did they also have to "die" in the process?
    - Hao/Supreme King is realy cool but why did Judai have to turn into him? Jaden out of guilt became something worse than the monster that "killed" his friends.
    - Why is the Soothing Darkness brought now and not when the Light of Destruction showed up in the previous season?
    - What's up Jim's eye and why as that meteor related to it only brought out now? Everything about this just feels made for the moment wtihout any good context to it.
    - And just like it, Judai's and Yubel's story of their past lives just seems like randomdly-added background story.
    - Did they really have to fuse at the end of Season 3? xD
    - And if so, why didnt we see more of Yubel in Season 4?
    - They realy pulled out more half-assed plot points with the Truemans and Fujiwara who is just brought now into the series but they couldn't have Yubel show up in a season where most episodes feel like filler?
    - Something that I like about Atem is that he still feels like an actual person despite being an Ancient Pharaoh and a Master of Games and Dark Magic; Judai after being fused with Yubel feels like someone so powerful and super-natural that he doesn't belong in the current World of GX.

Synchro had connection with time travelling and the 5D explosion or whatever ( also the world apocalypse after it's overused)

Since people drop takes, here, I'm gonna also do that. Not all of them are hot.
    - Yu-gi-oh season 0 style show (multiple games instead of only card game) in GX/5D's setting would be great. GX season one was close to it, with all random ghosts and spooky places on island, it always reminded me of urban legends we shared at school about abandoned houses or train sation we had nierby. Expand idea even more and instead of fighting those with card games, every paranormal activity has it's own convoluted set of rules to survive, maybe like playground games: tag it, hide and seek etc. About 5D's - gang fights, but they do them in overcomplicated motocycle races. Simple. I dunno if later shows would work with that.
-People call 5D's "the darkest yugioh show", but after dark signers arc, show had no idea what it wants to do with itself and became silly until they figured out last arc. I can't see it as more mature than other shows.
-Season 2 of VRAINS was weirdly disjointed comparing to rest of the show. It feels like new Star Wars trilogy, where part 8 was written by diffrent person than part 7 and 9. Most characters and all antagonists introduced in season 2 didn't do anything in season 3. Plot about chess figures in SOL Tech was abandoned and Ai being sus was ignored until both were mentioned in season 3. Only thing relevant from season 2 to season 3 was Ignises deletion and rest of lost incident victims. Ignises were gone anyway, so only difference is that viewer has more emotional attachment and Ai is more justified in his villany - there was a foreshadowing Ai was going to be antagonist since begining. Soulburner and Miu aren't very relevant to fight with Ai anyway.
-Vanila monsters should be made more relevant and useful in in Yu-gi-oh card game. Now they can only be set-up pieces for old archetypes.
Also, I would watch Sevens and Go-Rush if I could find it. Seriously, what streaming service has them?

He quite literally does (Well Atem does) remember the whole heart of the cards stuff? That's literally Atem at least subconsciously manipulating the odds in his favour in order to win. Like dude at the ceremonial duel starts to just playing cards without even looking at them and the whole cast notices it.

    • @MrEffectfilms
      @MrEffectfilms 4 дня назад

@diegomedina9637 Every duelist can do this though provided they have a strong enough bond with their deck. This is why the term "Trust in the Heart of the Cards" is said so much, they aren't just talking out their ass this is a technique every duelist can do, Atem is just better at it than most.
Example. Kaiba does this in Duelist Kingdom during his duel with Pegasus, he willingly discards his entire hand and then top decks Blue Eyes by the power of his own will. Joey does this when he duels Esperoba, during the final turn he top decks Roulette Spider and immediately wins the duel. There's several more examples for both of them but the point is clear, EVERY duelist can do this, Atem is just better at it. And I'd rather there at least be an in lore explanation instead of other protagonists (Yusei) just winning all the time for no reason. He doesn't have an official loss the entire series except for a flashback, and the one time he would have lost against Kalin in season 2 it's interrupted when he crashes his bike and so no winner is declared, hence why he isn't swallowed by the shadows.

Aki really isn’t anything impressive, she jobbered against Yusei twice and really doesn’t do anything. The only characters that had decent treatment in 5ds is Gary Stu Yusei, Jack & Crow.
Yeah not saying manga Aki is better, she may as well be worse, but anime Aki was also trash.

  • @diegomedina9637

You want a hot take? The Waking the Dragons arc sucks! I know they had to come out with different forms for Yugi and Atem to loose without actually loosing but that Duel with Rafael was just bad. Its like they literally flipped the characters and Rafael was the main character while Yugi and Atem were just the random duelist of the week the main character had to beat... Speaking of Rafael!
Rafael: I'm back! The pharaoh saved me from my darkness!
    Dartz: No he didn't!
Rafael: I guess he didn't. Understandable, have a good day everybody! *Gets taken by the seal out of nowhere*

  • @sorcerersapprentice
    @sorcerersapprentice 5 дней назад +1

Everyone's posting their hot takes, so here's some of mine.
    - I want the mythological elements back in the franchise. I honestly do not care for any series past 5Ds, because they lack them. Nor do I have any inkling to check them out.
    - One of the writing problems with at least the original three series is that they suffered from character bloat. Instead of writing useless characters out of the series or killing them off, they kept them around to be the cheer squad. I think that factor alone could explain why characters like Alexis didn't get enough moments to shine. The writers couldn't flesh them all out. GX was the worst for this. (Though, to be fair, a lot of shonen anime from the 90s and 2000s were like this as well.)
    - Connecting to the above point, but Tristan and Tea should've gotten the Miho treatment and should've not been added in the first place. They do next to nothing in the DM era and don't connect to the ancient Egypt shit, so why have them tag along all the time? Duke should've left after his mini arc was done as well.
    - I think there should've been modern versions of Mana, Mahad and Kisara in modern times. They would've contributed to the plot more and tie back into the bigger picture better.

@tvojamama4888 edgy? I dont think u know the definition of edgy, aki was doing all that she did for a reason, was it a good reason no but to her it was. I will say that after the first part she becomes a cheerleader again and doesnt get anymore idk why did that to her cause she is the most interesting female yugioh character.

Both are flawed. Crow should have been a natural inclusion(Rather than being nowhere until he is awkwardly retconned in and then being forced into the signer roles when his point in the show was showing that it does NOT require a chosen one to win against the darkness) and Aki should not have been dropped like a rock the first chance the series got.

1:35 *Slowly puts away gun and vanishes into the shadows*
1:45 It would be, but it's realistically never going to happen. I can basically see the outline of an extended Toei anime remake(Almost all of its mainplot was made up/majorly rewritten and never in the manga as-is, which is why I think it is a good basis for a what-if that majorly deviates from the source material even more than DM) form, especially the theoretical context of the ceremonial game.
The concept argubly even has potential to go beyond the classic era because I see the hook in some of the originally Master Duel sequels. For example 5DS is basically made for it with the whole "motorbike illegal games" basis that some of the series tackles already, GX could have a diffrent take on the whole "Judai has hidden darkness to him" angle and Vrains has the whole undercover hacker idea to it. Can't get a pulse on what the basic entrypoint for a "diffrent and more conventially dark" rewrite for Zexal or ArcV could be tho, maybe someone can help me out there.
2:54 Yami is a rules lawyer, not a cheater. It is still amazing how people keep bringing up the dragon flute when that was Seto reading his own card wrong in the original japanese manga(Players messing up the rulings is canonical, yes) and both Studio Gallop aswell as the Viz manga localization messed it up by drawing the OCG/TCG effect onto the thing. If Yami's move was illegal and the dueling system let it pass accidentially, Seto could have just DQ'ed him for cheating on the spot, it was his tournament.
3:53 She really was wasted that much, huh? And it still stings that they decided to ruin the perfect ending to her brother's personal arc literally after they already showed us said perfect ending.(I still hate Season 4)
5:37 I gave it a chance and slid off its surface because it couldn't commit to stakes in any of the episodes I watched besides the first one(Which is a good episode). And no, "stakes" does not mean anything life threatening or world ending, it can also mean that if they are dueling for who gets the gum is actually the only one getting the gum(I for some reason really like the gum-example when explaining my issue with how Sevens' early episodes lacked conflict which leads to people not continuing). The way Sevens was written, either nobody got the gum or everyone got the gum with barely anything missed if one skipped the duel itself. I actually really like Rush dueling, but I know that the day I return to the anime(I just have that weird feeling that I eventually will, if only to have eventually watched all animated YGO content) will not be a fun one.
7:06 Season 4 did suck(It had good moments, but overall it's a miss), but I will never understand the second take personally, especially because it is generally not thrown against BBT when it essencially does the same thing, just in a coop duel rather than a 1v1. In-narrative, it does no damage because it takes place before said duel(Maybe, kinda. It is weird, there is a reason why dream theory is a thing. Judai even notes that his arrival stopped time for some reason, which is so incredibly random and never really explained). Out of narrative, idk why it is supposed to be damaging because the thematic of the story of letting go of the past never extended to the viewer in that way. Heck, I can see why people go against DSoD for this, but why GX Season 4?
8:00 I wouldn't say Yusei "lost his value as a character", but whoever wrote this is 110% spot on. They took the "king of games never loses!" from the original manga way too literally with him(The manga didn't even take it that literally with Yami. He still timed out against Pegasus and lost to Yugi). He was only allowed to "officially lose" in flashbacks, which is meh and the one time he did actually lose, it was seemingly not put on his record because his runner broke. (The runner breaking is an entirely fine out because otherwise he would have been dragged to literal heck, but it still should have been treated as a loss proper, possibly similar to how Yami's loss in DM Season 4 was handled. Heck, many people pointed out that ANY reasonable competitive sport *will* actually count such a thing against your record because it was your responsibility that your equipment is working) And unlike Yusaku, the plot doesn't even justify him because there are some duels where he not only would have been fine and dandy with a loss, but the plot actually would have worked better with one.
10:37 I still think Links do not fit into the design space of the other "new mechanics". Like, if you think about it, every added major mechanic after Fusion interacted with levels in some new way...but Links don't, they instead created a completely new "Link counter" and don't care about Levels besides being a possible secondary condition for the summon. And heck, they got me, I personally cannot think of any way to redesign Links without stealing stuff from the other post-fusion extra deck card types. The designspace is completed as far as I can tell, we just didn't need a new card type after Pendulum(We didn't even need Pendulum, but at least they fit into how the game had been evolved since the addition of Rituals and Tributes).
