One issue is the timeline of any animated show that runs for a long time gets messed up because the characters don't age. That's why The Simpsons have flashback episodes of Marge just getting with Homer in the 70's 80's, 90's and 2000's. They were already committed King of the Hill but were nervous about it being a cartoon. When it proved popular they decided to give another cartoon a chance. That's how that makes sense. This was back when the only real successful prime-time cartoon was the Simpson.
