10:00 I just want to say (from my experience at least) Tourette’s syndrome will not stop on it’s own, but most people (depending on the severity) will be able to stop themselves if it is going to hurt you. I have Tourette’s syndrome altho it’s not at severe as some others it still effects my daily life. I have been dealing with it for my entire life and I have come to be able to control it better now it still is a bit overwhelming sometimes. I've had Tourette syndrome before, I was diagnosed in AdventHealth Florida when my grandparents lived there, I was about 6. Most have gone away but I still have some of them.
You hear people say "You never really know if they are faking the Tourette's", I can tell you from experience these are fake. They almost never change and they aren't sudden, the only times they will change is usually after 2 months to a few years. Lots of people want to know what it's like having Tourette's, so let me try giving you an explanation of what happened to me, (keep in mind there are hundreds of different forms of Tourette's) Tourette's are suppressible, but, it is very difficult. They aren't exactly spasms, they're more: " I have to do this or I feel really uncomfortable " There are two types of Tic's (or Tourette's) Motor tics, and vocal tics. Motor tics are movement tics such as bobbing your head or moving your arm, vocal tics are, well, I think you can guess what those are. I am quite lucky when it comes to Tourette syndrome, I'm sure you have heard of types of Tourette's that are "blaring swear words" or "flipping people off", I have an easier type of Tourette meaning not as physical and demoralizing (easier to control). A lot of tough Tourette's come from stress although this is true you do need to be born with it or acquire it.
I thought everybody knew this but apparently not TOURETTES ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS. If you do randomly get tics or Tourette's you did not catch it from that kid you passed in the hallway. Even though it is a mental disorder every thing else in your brain works fine, you are not brain dead, it's more of a "minor inconvenience".
Sorry for making this so long I'm just tired of seeing this girl everywhere and people actually believing the stuff she spills out of her mouth.

This honestly makes me upset. Now for anyone that wants to know more about Tourettes just know that there are MANY forms of this condition and remember that Tourettes can happen at any age and go from small twitches every now and then like moving body parts or saying things out loud, to having twitchs where you twitch every five seconds. This condition still has unknown things about it and can be very complicated. But all we really know is there is no cure for it but there have been cases where people with Tourettes have been cured by the pure luck of the universe. You can also get Tourettes at any age most of the time starting at the age of 6-7. Tourettes is caused by the brains nervous system basically having a malfunction. You can not control what you do or say if you have this condition and usually when a person with Tourettes is twitching it doesn’t really look like what she’s doing. Like it was said she looks like she’s forcing it, the way her body moves and the things she does while twitching looks very off. If your going to fake a condition. At least do your research. Or you know just not fake a condition that people have actually tried to end their own life because of it. It’s not fun to have.
Edit: when I mean forcing it, it just doesn’t look natural. I have seen people with this condition and usually if they have a tic they don’t smart laughing and smiling like “oh I’m so corky” if they are talking they ignore the tic and continue the conversation they really just ignore the tics. She does not do that. Also I have symptoms of Tourettes, and they look nothing like hers

I genuinely hate watching videos like this. I have Tourette’s, been diagnosed by a doctor and neurologist, tried several medications and muscle relaxers to help, I always got upset seeing people like that. I used to post videos on TikTok, but it was never Tourette’s related, I would just tic in the vids while talking about whatever I made the video about. Constantly got flooded with nasty comments, people would find my personal social media accounts and flood my DMs with nasty messages, people used to send me stuff on discord calling me every name in the book, all because they thought I was faking. It really sucked, I felt like the little bit of confidence and self esteem I had left was ripped away from me. I would make videos talking about golf or stupid school stuff or Minecraft or whatever, and if I had tics constantly in those videos, I’d get 50-300k views, but when I got on new meds and it calmed down a lot, my vids dropped to around 1-5k views at most but were flooded with hate comments about how I was faking. It got so bad to the point where I was dumb enough to skip or stop taking my meds to make my tics bad again just to make videos everyone wanted to see. In the moment, I felt validated and accepted but looking back, I was really just a circus monkey to them, I was different and that’s the only thing they liked. What no one understands is how much Tourette’s has actually affected my life. When I was in high school I skipped days to weeks at a time when it would get really bad to avoid humiliation. I went to prom and the girl I went with was embarrassed to be there with me because I had tics. Worst of all, I spent my entire childhood growing up saying I was going to the Air Force. I got turned away by every recruiter I reached out to for years, finally one sent me to MEPS and that’s where I finally got officially medically disqualified for Tourette’s. Almost 5 years has passed now since it got really bad and with medication and lifestyle changes, it’s died down a lot. I don’t vocal tic almost ever anymore, but it’ll pop out every now and again for some reason. I have permanent nerve damage in my neck from tics. I have scars on my palms from tics. I have chipped teeth from tics. Luckily it’s not as bad anymore, I have small tics here and there, mainly my hands clenching or my nose scrunching, or sometimes my head will jerk a little bit. It gets bad at night sometimes, but not very often. But overall Tourette’s has ruined what my life was supposed to be. I didn’t get to enjoy most of high school because of it, my career I desired is unattainable because of it, I was harassed and bullied on the internet because of it, and it genuinely makes my stomach drop to see people like that still faking and creating this narrative around Tourette’s that just isn’t true. It’s not fun, it’s not enjoyable. It sucks, it’s embarrassing, it’s humiliating.

To somewhat answer joes question about self harm being a common tic, I’m not exactly sure but there was one kid in a special needs class that I helped out with that naught have had Tourette’s or just severe autism but one of his “tics” or just behaviors was punching himself in the face at stretching his arms in a way that looked quite painful and he would often blurt out, “I hurt myself” hope this gives some possible clarity.

I actually have Tourette’s (well tic disorder to be exact, pretty much the same thing just with out the vocal tics), I don’t have a vocal tics (the tic where people yell words) and to be honest it sucks. Just knowing people use this for clout is really infuriating to be honest. Tics can be controlled to an extent but it still happens. But what people understand is it’s not like a muscle spasm like people explain. I like to explain it like a sneeze, it just builds up and bugs until you do it (again I have tic disorder which is pretty much the same just no vocal tics, and I’m not sure how vocal tics happens)

With that being said even if their mother or grandfather was actually diagnosed with Tourette’s then they should know that it is very offensive to fake it for anything whether it’s money, clout, attention etc. but it IS very offensive to me because it has been very difficult and challenging having Tourette’s. Hi Joe, to answer your question if youre still looking at the comment section, a doctor will NOT diagnose you with tourettes unless you have shown a minimum of 1 year of both motor AND vocal tics (i believe). I used to suffer from anxiety/stress/adhd tics for around a year due to abuse, and my doctor prescribed me magnesium as a muscle relaxer and an ssri to help with the anxiety. He never diagnosed me with tics or tourettes. Hope that helps

You obviously might not ever see this, but you mentioned that you don’t knew weather or not accidentally self harming is prominent, or likely thing to happen. I will say when I first developed noticeable tics, I often would hit myself, or slam my hands on things. I will say that once I went on medication it got better, and now days I barely ever accidentally self harm from tics. While I have been meds, a lot of people with severe Tourette’s like me find that they might have tics often/every now and then that are harming. This is the reason why people with severe Tourette’s syndrome can not drive, or handle knives without supervision most of the time. Thank you for educating yourself, I face people thinking I’m faking all the time, so you going out of your way to watch through the whole thing is gratifying.

I struggle in society today because of people like this, people claim im faking my tics because i rarely tic now (at least to them) I have a tic that kinda sounds like a quiet sneeze, i wish people like this didnt fake it because some tics genuinely hurt. I know im yapping but stick with me, (if you're reading) I swear I almost broke my knuckles one time because i had/still have a really bad tic. When i was younger where I'd bang my hands on hard objects like walls or counter corners, sometimes hitting myself. One time hitting a brick wall repeadidly and not easily, Anyways, MY POINT IS i genuinely dont know why somone would want tourettes.
