I used to correspond with James Herbert back in the days of writing letters, placing them in an envelops and licking a stamp. I only met him the once but what a lovely guy. I think Magic Cottage is absolutely superb. Some good comedic moments in that one. I agree with you saying he's not really in the pulp style, but rather using a mainstream style in the horror genre. Even his early gore filled titles like The Rats and The Fog are far from pulpy.
I'm finishing up #5 in the Stagecoach station. The stories may sound familiar but the writing keeps me reading. I'm enjoying each one. Thanks for the heads up
I have read The Rats and The Spear (many decades ago) and a few others on my shelf and Kindle. None of your recommendations though. Too early in the morning for an ale.
These sound like some interesting books for sure... When you say grew some are you talking really gory? I like horror but not gory stuff. Also I think you have an owl infestation...
Big James Herbert fan! I need to go back and reread The Magic Cottage.
That is a great one!
I saw James A Michener in the thumb, and instantly clicked... listened, and subbed. Hi from a noob to book tube!
Hi! Subbed yours as well! Welcome!

By the way, sorry about the delay in responding. I don't know why some comments go to the "held for review" tab.
That isn't a problem with me because I see the same thing all the time and don't understand it.

Yes at times some imges might be disturbing but he's not what they call splatterpunk. I don't care for splatterpunk and I'm a fairly liberal reader.
@@thewestisthebest thank you!
