fitting a door/kick panel to our dishwasher (Miele G6620SCi)

  • We had a Miele G 6620 SCi semi-integrated dishwasher installed but I couldn't get enough info from Miele to order a door panel that would fit prior to installation. I guess this was a good thing because there are so many variables that mean that you would most likely order the wrong size of panel prior to installation.
For our use case, there were doors to the left and right of the dishwasher so we didn't need to align the bottom of the control panel with any drawers. This meant that we could install the dishwasher so that the top of it was flush with the counter top (what I refer to as a bunker - I'm Scottish if you haven't already guessed...)
The bottom of it we wanted to align with the bottom of the adjacent doors.
This dishwashers had 4 removable metal strips under the control panel. These are held in place by a plastic thread/nut. The are separated by sponges which means you can compress or relax them if your door is not quite the correct height or if you are transferring an existing panel from an older dishwasher.
This dishwasher was really neat in that it had adjustment screws on the front for altering the height of the back legs.
The instructions didn't make it clear what thickness of panel you could use stating only 16mm minimum but no maximum specified.
Where I live, doors come in two thicknesses - 16/18 mm and both of these would fit. The strips under the control panel are 21mm thick, so theoretically you could probably go as thick as 21mm.
My door panel measures as 15.26mm thick and the distance from the strip to the door is 6.8mm, giving a total thickness of 22mm probably because that strip doesn't sit righta against the door.
The other factor in door thickness is its weight and the effect it has on the tension of the door spring.
Prior to putting the panel on the door would fall down with little effort, after putting the panel on it felt much better only falling down on its own to about the 45 deg mark which I believe is the correct tension (it has a screw to adjust the tension) So for this reason you wouldn't want to go thicker than 18mm anyway.
Our cavity was 61cm wide and the installers said they didn't need the 1cm spacer panel I made to reduce this to 60cm wide which is the width of the dishwasher.
This meant that when they screwed in the side screws, the dishwasher side panels bent/bowed which was annoying. But my wife said it was fine because when the panel is on you don't really notice it.
When we redo the kitchen, i'll make sure the cavity is 60cm wide.
If you have a cavity that is 61cm wide, the gap is covered with the 5mm rubber flaps either side but I would if doing it again put 5mm wooden strips either side to stop the sides bowing out when screwed in. These strips would be hidden behind the rubber strips.

Awesome job. I was wondering about how to do an integrated toe-kick with the dishwasher door. Thank you.

Great video and answered some questions I could not figure out. 1 question. There are 4 screws in the inside of dishwasher by the front. Its the one you put the plastic covers on. What are those screws for and what should I do with them and when prior to putting the plastic covers on them? thanks

Those 4 screws stop the dish washer from moving around. The go in last after you have adjusted the front and rear feet. Because my dishwasher gap was 610 and the gap ideally would be 600mm exactly it would be easy to over tighten them and push the sides out. I think I loosened them off a bit and stuck two 5mm thickness pieces of wood to span the gap. If you make your cabinet gap 600mm you won’t get those issues.

Awesome video, thanks. I have a question...... if I install custom kick plate, then how do I access the dishwasher in case it needs repairing?

If you have an existing kick plate like I did, just use velcro to put the new one in front of it (3m do some good ones that are fairly heavy duty). Then you can just pull the kick plate under the dishwasher. If you don't have an existing kick plate, put a block of wood at each side of the run of cabinets on both end panels, then velcro it onto those blocks. You can also have certain cabinet legs that allow you to put u or c shaped clips on the kickplate and those just spring on to the legs

Also this particular dishwasher does come with a kick panel (same width as dishwasher), just that I preferred one that matched better

Good video - but wish you'd specify which tori screw driver you're using

good point, instruction sheet says you need a normal flat head, a torx T20, an 8mm hex and a 2.5mm drill bit

Hi where did you buy the metal hardware that put one the panel? I could not find it online. Thanks for your help!

I had to buy a particular version of that dishwasher - the metal H shaped bracket came with the machine and also included a template for placing the bracket on a wooden panel.

Do you know the part number for the bracket which holds the door on? Thanks

No, go to the Miele Website and do a live chat, they should be able to tell you. There is also a plastic transparent template that goes with the bracket that looks custom to each dishwasher, template has M.-Nr.06235040 written on it. The install instructions do not specify part numbers (just dug them out and looked). Neither does the user manual. I looked online and couldn't find anything but the panel they sell - www.miele.com.au/domestic/installation-accessories-2169.htm?mat=07149240&name=GFV_60_57-1

I just bought a Miele and wondered how to adjust the door? Mine is hard to open. If I open it at 45 degree, the door will snap close itself... Please help:)

If you look at the big installation sheet, image 25 there are two screws just above the front feet that have a spring symbol. Turn clockwise (+) to stiffen, looks like you need to turn anti-clockwise (-) to loosen the spring - twist both screws a quarter turn and test, then another quarter turn and test until the door will sit at 45% - half open/half closed

Very precise - now can you re-shoot the video using only a hammer, a blunt Stanley knife and the wrong screw driver. :-)

HaHa, I don't know what a sharp Stanley knife is, mine always seems to be blunt - I should replace the blade more often...
