Star Wars: Rogue One Movie Reaction | First Time Watching!
    Hey guys!!
So after watching the original star wars trilogy and prequel trilogy - I watched Rogue One!! I had no idea what it was about hopping into it, only that it took place before Star Wars Episode IV!! I was worried that since it was a newer film it wouldn't be that good but honestly.... IT WAS SO GOOD. One of my top 3 favorite Star Wars films I'd have to say. I didn't even resonate with the characters at first but by the end I was crying so LOL definitely done amazingly and really just a wonderful movie and addition to the Star Wars universe overall. I really REALLY enjoyed it and I'm so glad I watched it. Rogue One is SO GOOD and ties the beginning of episode IV together PERFECTLY. IT ALL FELL RIGHT INTO PLACE.
WHY HAVEN'T I WATCHED THESE SOOOOONERRRRRR THANK YOU GUY❤❤
It was a ton of fun to watch and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did!!

The director told them, " Well, this is for Disney so we didn't think you would allow us to kill everyone. " The executives then went, "it's your vision, let's see it." Glad they did.

This narrative that Rogue One had too many characters and didn't develop them is absolute shit. Unless you are old enough to have seen Star Wars in 1977 then you more than likely had all 3 original trilogy movies to watch fairly close together. You PERCEIVE all of those characters being more fleshed out in a New Hope because of having the whole trilogy. They were not any more fleshed out that Casian, or Krennic or Jyn. You just FEEL that they were.

    • @STNeish
      @STNeish 2 года назад +5

You make a valid point, however, the characters in Rogue One still lack depth. In the 1977 film, Tarkin was a one note villain, and Vader was just muscle, albeit very COOL muscle. The heroes, in particular Luke, were far more fleshed out, and far more relatable, in the original film in 1977, in part due to the writing making them more immediately recognizable (eg. we got more of a sense of who Han Solo was because his dialog was much more direct than Cassian's was, for example). In Rogue One, we don't really learn much about Jin Urso, or any of the others, apart from their role in the mission at hand. I thought Cassian was the only one with a recognizable arc, but even that was handled very vaguely most times.

If you were to go back and watch the original three movies, they reference the "sacrifices" that it took to get the plans in rebel hands. They all died because the original storyline described them all as dead and sacrificing to get the plans to the rebellion.

Right. I viewed this whole movie as that one line turned into a deep story. I knew it wasn't going to turn out well for the good guys. This didn't stop me from crying from their sacrifice.
I also liked that you got a better look at the political issues within the rebellion and it kinda makes Luke's speech more believable to be followed later on because they just had a similar meeting in this movie which they didn't endorse and it cost them dearly. If they had agreed to work together with a plan of attack then maybe they could have turned out better and maybe all those people didn't have to die. (or lose so many ships)

Also, having just one set of genes in the whole army was a vulnerability which was why the Empire stopped using cloned soldiers and brought in volunteers. Clone troopers were relatively expensive even if you included the cheaper variants that took only a year to grow to military age. The Republic was beginning to have problems funding the Kamino clone program (actually Palpatine didn't want to pay for more clones since he knew the war was about to end) and the Empire wanted to spend on other things like a massive fleet of ships and the Death Star and the infrastructure to support them.

The over-the-top nonsense of TFA et al were expressly done to pander to the newly-moneyed Chinese middle class who want action and not drama, and the “First Order” being the bad guys instead of “Imperial Holdouts” was a measure to not offend the real Evil Empire, the Chinese Communist Party.

@@Ryan_Christopher one thing I'm sure is the original trilogy was never released in theaters officially. @@feifeigxx Yes the Original Trilogy bombed, because they released them as the Special Editions after 1998. By then the Prequel Trilogy had already been seen and left a bad impression with the market. Imagine having Jar-Jar Binks in your introduction to the series instead of Luke Skywalker. There's an entire video of that here explaining how it went down in China.
This is the reason Star Wars VII to IX are what they are: Too much flash but shit storyline. They were meant to cater to a newly-affluent Chinese Market who want their money's worth in action. Meanwhile the rest of us long-time fans were like, "WTF is this? The Finn, Poe, and Rey show?"

I'm not saying your argument about appeal to Chinese market is wrong, I'm just saying the original trilogy never have a theatrical release in China, so it's pointless to say it's bombed.
Prequel actually did ok in China, considering it only released in several(around 7 to 9) cities, and back to 2000 Chinese cinema is a small market.
I'm a Chinese and grow up basically without any star wars film, until 2010 I arrived in the U.S., and I watched the franchise from episode I to VI, so I really don't need to imagine the whole jar jar binks thing. The actor Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin in the Original Trilogy, passed away in 1994 at the age of 81. For the movie "Rogue One", they used actor Guy Henry as the framework, then digitally recreated Peter Cushing's face on top. Basically they resurrected Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin using state of the art CGI. The scene at the end with Princess Leia (digital Carrie Fisher) used a similar technology to bring her back as a young Princess Leia.

She was kind to Luke after Obi-Wan died, but didn't mourn her people at all. She's tough, but come on--billions of people slaughtered. I would have been crushed, then vengeful beyond belief. You're absolutely spot on when you suggest that not all Imperials are mindless drones, not all of them agreed with the Empires actions.
Many people joined the Empire thinking it was a force for good and would bring peace and stability (Krennec mentions "peace and stabilioty" in the opening scenes) to a galaxy that had been wracked with war. The Clone Wars had only just finished (as per "Revenge of the Sith") and to many people the Galactic Republic had appeared as weak, divisive and corrupt. As the Empire gradually took control of systems often by the use of force, some Imperial supporters began to question the regime they had joined.
As a result, people defected (the prime example in this movie being Bohdi) and even corporations and planets started to give covert help to the Rebellion, often at great risk. (That's why the senators/representatives at the Rebel meeting to discuss the Death Star aren't happywith Jyn's evidence. It's not because they're cowards but they have to consider what will happen to their respective planets and their propulations.
