    Ingredients:
    - 4-5 oranges
    - 300 ml water
    - 550 g sugar
    - 10 g vanilla sugar
    1. Cut the oranges into circles. Put them in a bowling water for 2-3 min to avoid the bitterness.
    2. Drain the orange slices and dry them using the paper towel.
    3. Put the orange slices into the big pot.
    4. In another pot combine sugar, vanilla sugar and water. Apply heat and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this liquid into the pot with the orange slices. Cook for 1,5 - 2 hrs on a low heat. Check the pot from time to time. If needed, add some water.
    5. Drain the orange slices. Let them dry a bit. Send them to the oven for 20-25 min at 90C. Let them cool completely.
    Enjoy!

I'm going to try this for a Christmas x New Year's treat. I love orange candy! Recently found out that I'm allergic to artificial dyes. These are all natural.

You can store these orange slices in a cool, dry place in a tightly closed jar or container for several weeks 😊

When you remove the bitterness while boiling, does the orange taste still stays the same?

Hello Kateryna just want to ask something here:
    1. What's the purpose of soaking the orange slices in hot water?
    2. Any other indicators when cooking the oranges in syrup to assure that they're done?

    • @sokateryna1285
      @sokateryna1285  2 года назад +9

Hey, thank you for asking! 😊 1. We soak the orange slices in hot water to get rid of the bitterness. 2. The most important indicator is the peel, which should become translucent and soft. I would recommend using a timer and cooking them for at least 1.5 hours. Cook them for a maximum of 2 hours. Then they are ready for sure 😉

When making candied peel, you boil the peels in water, 2 - 5 times, 10 minutes each time in new, clean water (recepies vary, I think I would go for 5 times) to totally get rid of bitterness. Amazingly you do not lose any flavor… 🤗 I think I would try with a small batch to see if that method would work with slices too. I have made peels with quite a bit of fruit flesh left on them and they turned out as the most yummy candy, actually that was the reason I looked up a recipe for orange slices. I think I may candy slices cut in half or quarters… 😋

Please note!!!!!!!! I made this recipe and I boiled for 1.5 hours and it wasn’t done enough and set my timer for another 15 mins and it burnt so horribly I nearly burnt the kitchen down. Watch this like a hawk after 1.5 hours!!!!!!!!!
