Ok, that was interesting. Why where you doing that?

The costumemaker had made that dress brand new, but the character in the play had owned the dress for years, dating back to when she used to sing the blues at the Cotton Club in New York City. So it needed to look like a fancy dress that had been worn by a performer on a nightly basis. This was me taking the newly-created costume and making it look well-worn and lived-in.
