Great story as always . I'm Noel from Houston and I'm an old NBA , PBA , and Rockets fan from way back . I believe the Philippines could have realistically fielded 3 players in the NBA by now . Aside from Abarrientos , Robert Jaworski and Jason Castro , all guards . That speaks highly of the level of sophistication of Philippine basketball because Asian countries send mostly big men to the league . Imagine , Jaworski would have been THE first foreigner in the NBA !

The Flying A is the reason why i started watching PBA in the 90's. Kahit maliit hindi takot lumusot kaya tinawag na Flying A kasi walang nakakatapal sa kanya. I think he is the most clutch in PBA history, how many times Johny A made a clutch game winner on his career. Naalala ko noon pag sa 4th quarter, its Johny time na one of the best fadeaway shots. Back in the days all of the teams are equal laging dikit ang laban at intens. Si Ed Picson pa nga commentator dun, kaya suspense talaga. 1994-1998 grandslam. He was the Jordan in the 90s. Legend.

That Batten court guy was a free loader. He had free hotel rooms and dinners at fancy restaurants in the guise of scouting for players. He also collected free merchandise. My cousin chauffeured him all over the place and he was amazed at how everyone kowtowed to him when he mentioned his NBA connections

Lesson: US offers Pinoy, you take it right away. But I respect his Pinoy honor of seeking consent first from everybody he might be impacting. Truly, a case of nice guys finish last, so to speak. When Dexter Shouse was offered the 10-day contract, he took it right away. But the PBA ruled him as persona non-grata which I thought was wrong for them to do so. You can't fault someone from trying out with NBA. It's the NBA and not just another league. It's got to be an exception to breach of contract.
