BS&T version by a mile. Like the Brenda version but the horns and David Clayton Thomas vocals are just outstanding. It was a giant hit on billboard charts. 🙃👍
The lead singer's name was David Clayton Thomas. Dude could sing the ingredients off of a cake mix box and it would sound good. Such a good vocalist ...
In 1978, Dire Straits had the lyrics in one of their song state "They don't give a damn about any trumpet playin' band, It ain't what they call Rock and Roll". Well the people in that verse they were referencing never heard "Blood, Sweat & Tears" and ":Chicago". These bands rocked and had a horn section to boot. Both bands were produced at the time by James William Guercio; he went onto producing eleven (11) Chicago albums.
@@HotItalian1 I'd definitely agree on Rare Earth, although with Crow, their horn section was a bunch of studio musicians that came in to do some tracks. One of Rare Earth's lead members, Gil Bridges played horns throughout his time with the band. And Rarer Earth does an epic 21 1/2 minutes version of Smokey Robinson's "Get Ready"; speaking of Motown covers by 1960's rock artist. Good catch on Rare Earth!
I love the old stuff! Nothing these days even comes close. Thank you for helping to keep it alive. I'd love to see you play the Carpenters "and when he smiles" or some of Karen's drum solos.
I'm very familiar with this cover version but I didn't remember Brenda Holloway's original so I just checked it out. I love Blood Sweat & Tears but I really enjoyed the TV Show performance by Brenda Holloway. It might be just her dancing while singing but it really took me back in time. I loved it.
This is a 1969 cover of the original sung by Brenda Holloway. This song was written by Brenda Holloway, Patrice Holloway, Frank Wilson and Berry Gordy. The original recording by Brenda Holloway was released on the Tamla label on August 17, 1967. BS&Ts version sold over a million singles and was certified gold by the RIAA.
Boy are you on a roll tonight, killer song after killer song! For another from that era, try a psychedelic classic from the Electric Prunes, their I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night. I survived and still remember those days, glad to be here a half century later and watching in wonder as modern listeners discover the utterly great music of my youth. Enjoy, I sure am. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
The vocalist is David Clayton-Thomas and he's truly spectacular on this song. From my hometown of Toronto, Canada btw. I love the tempo changes and the horns are simply incredible. They had another great song from the same album called Spinning Wheel, you should check that out too.
Thanks for this. I used to sing this at work when my computer did what it was supposed to. I will listen to Brenda Holloway. I had no idea this was a cover. Also I think the horn you referred to is a muted. Trumpet and there may be trombones too.
They sound like a combination of lounge music, rock, soul, blues, jazz and the group Chicago and Tower Of Power! You don't need drugs to get high! Just listen to this type of music, and you will be high as a kite!
I'd recently saw an interview from Chicago's trombonist Jimmy Pankow; he mentions while the band was still playing at clubs in LA in the late 60s (still not signed by anyone) a staff producer from New York dropped in and saw what talent the group had and was so inspired he went back to New York and got session musicians together that consisted horns and woodwinds as the main part of the band. Jimmy Pankow in his own words said 'they'd beat us to the punch' They'd released their album first in '68 while Chicago's first album was released in '69. That group that beat them to the punch were Blood Sweat and Tears. But we all know who's the better band out of the two 😉
Great song, great group. I hope that “When the Levee Breaks” Led Zeppelin version makes it onto your list, my favourite Zeppelin cut, love that Delta blues sound.
Very nice song and group. I see they got you dancing! Well heres one for you. THE GOOD THE BAD and THE UGLY by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, if you never heard an orchestra before you will love it
B, S & T came on strong with this hit song, following right on the heels of the success of Chicago Transit Authority (Chicago). Try their album hit "Go Down Gamblin'." The late 1960's early 1970's became the battleground for such "big-band rockers" as Tower of Power (What is Hip?, This Time It's Real, many others) , Chase (Get it On in the Morning), Lighthouse (One Fine Morning) -- to name a few.
Blood, Sweat and Tears was a fantastic band. All the members were world-class musicians and they had great songwriting. Their song Spinning Wheel would be fun to listen to.
Since you're wearing a Honey shirt, may I suggest Bobby Goldsboro's song Honey. If you don't feel something after listening to it, you don't have a heart.
This is 1 of those rare times when the cover is far better than the original. Blood Sweat & tears were phenomenal. I had all their records
Another great cover this band did was "God Bless The Child"
David Clayton Thomas simply kills on vocals.....great singer!
Old Chicago (I and Ii), Blood Sweat & Tears and Lighthouse......loved their sound and each was their own.
Blood Sweat and Tears were awesome.
BS&T version by a mile. Like the Brenda version but the horns and David Clayton Thomas vocals are just outstanding. It was a giant hit on billboard charts. 🙃👍
The definitive version of this song. Those horns, the organ... That voice!
Blood Sweat and Tears made this song famous even though they didn’t write it. A great song
I grew up with that Blood, Sweat & Tears album.
Another great cover from that album is “And When I Die” which was written and recorded by Laura Nyro.
This album + early Chicago buttered me up for a lifelong love of jazz, and two members of this band went on to long careers in the jazz world.
Chicago de Peter cetera?
A Fantastic group jazz, blues, and soul! Beautifully done! Thank you Angela
Best air muted trumpet playing EVER! 😂
Blood Sweat and Tears and The Chicago Transit Authority: 60s answer to big band music.
"I want to spend the rest of my life thanking you"> just gorgeous, moves me to happy tears!
This was me and my late wife's song back in the day. These guys were really good.
🙏 ❤
sorry for your lost 💔🙏🙏 of your lady love may she rest in Heavenly Peace , you both have great taste in music ☮️
One of the greatest singers of any time period.
Great band, nice guys I had the pleasure to open for them in Lexington, KY back in 2006
The lead singer's name was David Clayton Thomas. Dude could sing the ingredients off of a cake mix box and it would sound good. Such a good vocalist ...
This is such a GREAT tune by Blood Sweat and Tears....I was married to this!
I’m glad you liked this song!! BST was such a wonderful band!! 😊

I've always loved this song and this group. They have so many more hits for you to react to.
1968, I was 14 and just getting into music. I didn’t know this was a cover but it brings out such deep grateful emotions.
The horn was the late, great Lew Soloff playing trumpet with a harmon mute.
Always kinda liked this song, as sung by Blood, Sweat and Tears. Was in U.S.M.C. when it came out. Thumbs up!
Lead singer Canadian David Clayton-Thomas had a great set of pipes.
David Clayton Thomas has a fantastic voice, really lovely
Lead vocal David Clayton Thomas I seen him in Japan in 1984 he was very good!
God Bless the Child by these guys is amazing.
I love the old stuff! Nothing these days even comes close. Thank you for helping to keep it alive. I'd love to see you play the Carpenters "and when he smiles" or some of Karen's drum solos.
David Clayton Thomas on lead vocal. -------Saw them in '68, they were pretty good. ----------MJL, 76 y/o
Saw them in concert in the old Salt Palace, in Salt Lake City, in their hay day. This brings it back for me!!
Only saw BS & T once in 1972. But man could they play...
Masterpiece of a pop record
The BST version was my favorite song from this group from a collection of a lot of hits. This my favorite song of that year as I recall.
What a voice!
I'm 63. I never knew that this was a cover song! I thought they were the creators !
I'm very familiar with this cover version but I didn't remember Brenda Holloway's original so I just checked it out. I love Blood Sweat & Tears but I really enjoyed the TV Show performance by Brenda Holloway. It might be just her dancing while singing but it really took me back in time. I loved it.

BS&T is the ultimate version! Brenda's version is great, but this band seriously perfected it! David Clayton Thomas really belts out this song!
Fantastically beautiful song!!
Forgot how GREAT the bass lines are in this song.
This time was when bands had horn sections like Chicago and Tower of Power
Boy are you on a roll tonight, killer song after killer song! For another from that era, try a psychedelic classic from the Electric Prunes, their I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night. Saw them in concert in SF in 1960's. Awesome.
Theres’s that smile, knew Angela would like this remake!!!!! ❤
The vocalist is David Clayton-Thomas and he's truly spectacular on this song. From my hometown of Toronto, Canada btw. I love the tempo changes and the horns are simply incredible. They had another great song from the same album called Spinning Wheel, you should check that out too.
Great song!
You make me so very happy that you reacted to this .
BS&T put out a lot of great music. More please.
Thanks for this. I used to sing this at work when my computer did what it was supposed to.
I will listen to Brenda Holloway. I had no idea this was a cover. Also I think the horn you referred to is a muted. Trumpet and there may be trombones too.
BS&T should be in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. They were Chicago before Chicago.
Thank you, Angela
They sound like a combination of lounge music, rock, soul, blues, jazz and the group Chicago and Tower Of Power! You don't need drugs to get high! Just listen to this type of music, and you will be high as a kite!
Awesome song! I didn't know this was a cover actually.
I remember hearing this on the radio when I was a wee little tike. Really enjoying your channel.
You're enthusiasts what you do is amazing

God Bless the Child is another great BS&T cover!
I have a fondness for this album.

If you like this band, you would LOVE the group Ides of March ( Vehicle ) and I also HIGHLY recommend the group Classics IV
Blood, Sweat and Tears was a fantastic band. All the members were world-class musicians and they had great songwriting. Their song Spinning Wheel would be fun to listen to.
I love you more than you'll ever know...is the name of what may well be their most romantic love song. It also has some teeth.
Love this tune is number 1 on my Eazy playlist
great horn section,,,right up there with chicago
You are so awesome
A terrific cover song is The Beach Boys cover of the Ronettes' I Can Hear Music.
All due respect to the original artist but this group made the song theirs.
This is such a classic.
Ya got me twice tonight. Memories of cruising the strip and "spoonin'". 😆
Epic song and band! Al Kooper is singing.
Arranged so beautifully!
Spinning Wheel is a great song they do too.
This song is cool and I'm totally in love with Angela! You go girl!
You must also listen to the cover by Jamaican Rock Steady Artiste "Alton Ellis" to this song.
Since you're wearing a Honey shirt, may I suggest Bobby Goldsboro's song Honey. If you don't feel something after listening to it, you don't have a heart.
Sang by Brenda, written by the great Frank Wilson.
Trumpet
that was my wife's ring tone on my phone till we got married, now on my phone when she calls it's christina perri's thousand years
Love to get your reaction to the duet "Hold Me" by Whitney Houston and Teddy Pendergrass from 1984. One of Houston's first recordings.
Favorite song by BS&T: Hi-De-Ho, I think also a cover, but you should give a listen.
BST does a magnificent cover of Billie Holidays God Bless the Child
Angela, a great recommendation for a cover song is: Baby It's You - by A Group Called Smith
I’d watch your cooking show!
It's a trumpet
