  • Onassis Stegi in Greece and the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival in Norway invited the Greek artistic collective hypercomf and the Norwegian composer Maja S. K. Ratkje to create an original work that connects the two countries.
The artists identified water as a common link between the opposite sides of Europe: two countries, each with a seafaring culture rooted in ancient marine exploration and modern marine industry leadership.
Inspired by the ancient voyage of Pytheas the Greek, the performance reimagines his journey in the modern era, where he embarks as a tourist on a luxurious cruise ship from the warmth of the Mediterranean to the icy coasts of Norway.
Through stunning visuals and evocative soundscapes, "Pytheas Travels" confronts the environmental impact of human activity on our seascape and marine ecosystems.
This video revisits some of the moments from the two-year production journey that took place in various locations - on dry land and at sea - in Greece and Norway, culminating in the final performances in Oslo and Athens in 2023.
