Tom doesn't like kids and people being hurt by the mainstream media pushing money, drugs, women...you don't see those things in his videos. He was saying to not put him in a single box. He can do all the kinds of hiphop he mentioned, but isn't stuck in a single lane. Except for mumble rap. I don't think he can mumble. I recommend his EM remix of The Way I Am.
You all have hit the nail on the head. I just unsubbed because his last few reviews on certain artists and types of artists have just been so far off the mark it's sad. I sense a good bit of racial undertones and going into certain artists prejudged and not open minded. It also seems he's just rolling thru the motions of a reactor and trying to get a bunch of content out even if its not true, good quality content.

I think it's more he hates what hip hop has become, it isn't about the message or the music, it's about the money, girls and drugs. It’s too bad that you’re judging him the way you did. He does way more types of music than just rap. He hates what the music industry has done to the mainstream rap. Check out his song “ Wish”. You’ll get a different perspective of him. I really enjoy you reactions. By the way, Tom and his girl Nova do everything from the videos to the touring and they both mail out their albums and merch themselves. He deserves way more credit. The songs you’ve reacted to by Tom have been similar in substance so I understand why you are thinking this way about him. Hopefully you’ll try more of his stuff.
I think he’s saying he hates the industry, not necessarily the music and he doesn’t want to be labeled. He does a lot more than just rap. He’s got a different style and emotion in every song.
I love when I find ironic reactions like this. They're always the same, too. The reactors seem to COMPLETELY misunderstand the video while simultaneously accusing the video of misunderstanding or being wrong about something. It's hilarious. This reaction is probably the best of them that I've seen because it's so fitting given who they're reacting to. This video perfectly captures what initial reactions Tom's songs draw out of people with little to no prior knowledge. If this is one of your first Tom videos, then you're naturally gonna be put of by it and confuse because without any knowledge of what his beliefs are and what kind of songs he's known most for, then this song naturally comes off as something hypocritical. An that is a take that can probably have it's own comment dedicated to it, cuz that too is a valid takeaway.
The fact that this song sparked the conversation of the hip hopcracy was the whole point! Toms music prevokes thoughts, and questions. He's best known for being controversial. Dope reaction.
He is Tom Macdonald...that is all he wants to be called, not labeled just a rapper or just hip hop. Tellin' ya bro the more videos you watch the more you will understand. Knowledge is power
Hes been calling out the music industry from day 1. In Dear rappers, exposure, helluvit, and the way i am remix he really goes into detail about the issues he has with the industry.
Lol. He understands. This is an older song. At the time, he was really into exposing the parts of hip-hop that are harmful. Really look into him. Youll see what he means. Try Dear Rappers. It'll give you a little insight and it's the first song he really got known from. 💜 #hangovergang
In the 3rd verse, He was mocking the people he’s talking about. He was making a point that he too can have those material things but he doesn’t want to brag about them in his songs. That’s the hip hop culture he hates.
He said “let me take a second to make sure you get the message......then took a few verses to flex, but it’s not common for him. He’s much bigger than that and has more to say than that! Besides, he basically just said I am just me and got you guys talking and interested in his music, so........MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Lol Please do more! I can’t even list one. They are all great!!! I feel Tom’s just saying there isn’t anyone out there like him, and paints a picture for you. And the fact that maybe today’s hip hop hardly puts REAL ISSUES in their songs.
Tom's saying he's gonna take a minute to tell some some of these rappers that he has the stuff that they only brag about even when it's not really theirs. He has that stuff because his music has a message, because he's not chasing clout, because he puts in the hours instead of relying on a label to do the work for him, and they don't have it because all they are rapping about is the drugs they fade with, the girls they be chasing, and the loaners they get from the record company. That's why it's not hypocrisy. He ain't hating on the genre. He's hating on the culture it created. He's hating on the players instead of the game. Also, I'm pretty sure that "clout and a chain" line was inspired by Young QC. P.S. Love the reactions. Keep keeping it real, brother. Honesty is a dying art.
He actually responds to almost all reactors in the comments. When he drops something the same day or next he goes and watches the reactions and comments on their channels.
The Dennis Rodman comparison is dead on.😂 But he is saying that he hates the negative influence hip hop culture has had on society especially young kids do to what it glamorizes. He knows he is a rapper and he is saying he hopes to influence hip hop for the better is the point of this song.
To be clear Tom can boom bap rap as well he has some older spoken word and boom bap stuff which holds its own. He respects but it isn’t him. Which is what this song is about. He’s just Tom Macdonald and that is all that matters. Great reaction!
He’s speaking about the “New Phase Of HipHop Artists” Mumble Rappers, RUclips/Reaction Rappers(people who only display their music on YT & do Reactions on YT), SoundCloud Rapers(The people who only put their music online & not actual physical cds, or go tour, actually put time into their music), Conscience Rappers(his music is very versatile, he can spit straight bars, thought provoking music, satire songs, disses, upbeat/hype, emotion/slower songs), and his wearing of Gucci, LV, ҒℲ is his acknowledgement of all the hard work he’s done to finally be able to wear whatever he wants(kinda a shove in the faces of the people who said he wouldn’t make it), his “Grills” ain’t for HipHop purposes either(he was an alcoholic & he drank so much his teeth deteriorated & he was a professional wrestler before he started pursuing music only so u can imagine that his teeth wasn’t so good....) & y’all say HipHop does not hate him, but I’ve seen WAAAYYYY TOO MANY negative comments & hate about him on all socials & he’s not gonna let them get to him.... There’s sooooo much more but maybe look into him a little bit deeper & learn to appreciate his come up & then maybe you can come back to this song & appreciate what he’s saying.
I watch you still to this day and have seen your growth. I'd kinda love to see you revisit some of Tons music, just to see how your opinions have changed over the last few yrs.
Hip hop does hate him, cause he talks about topics nobody will, he’s fully independent which means he can say and release whatever and whenever he wants, the rappers are jealous cause they wish they could be him, Tom is doing everything that he says he’s not just to show that he can , I just stumbled across this reaction, it’s a year ago, you definitely have understood Tom since then , take care
He’s talking specifically about what the hip hop culture is teaching kids. Drug use, disrespecting women, flaunting money etc. He mentions this in other songs as well. He also isn’t a fan of censorship and feels that if he signs to a label his freedom to express himself will be taken away. That is what this song is about.
He's saying he doesn't talk about his wealth because his mom raised him not to brag but because of that, other rappers and haters think he isn't successful. He isnt talking about his wealth to brag, he's doing it to prove them wrong.
The hip hop industry doesn’t like him because He is so talented and completely independent and won’t sign with anyone. He says he can only be himself that’s it. No diss just that he is Tom MacDonald.
In case nobody's said it. Those sweet suits he is wearing in this video are of his and Nova's creation, they may still be available in the Hang Over Gang merch store.
You'll understand Tom best if you go back to his first big hit "Dear Rappers" then "Politically Incorrect" and it'll all make sense his feelings and messaging.
Before he started flexing he said "...ain't been showing off my blessings, maybe I should take a second to make sure y'all get the message..." If you've been a Tom fan for a while, you'll know he rarely flexes like that, but sometimes haters have to be reminded lol. Don't worry about missing the point of this song, a lot of reactors did, until they listened to it a second time. All of Tom's songs are meant to stir an emotion, and create conversation about a topic whether you agree or disagree, at least people are discussing it. He hates what Hip-Hop has become.
Confession: you say LFR so fast, I thought I was part of the elephant family. Either one glad I'm part. I need a translation sheet, to keeo up. I'm old
Dear Rappers, Exposure, and his beef with Mac Lethal (Lethal Injection & Mac Lethal Sucks) are other great ones. Also Politically Incorrect, Hellavit, and Sad Rappers.
He's Talking about how We went From Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Mo's Def, 3rd. Bass, Heavy D. And Tha Boys, Ice T. Notorious, Pac, Ect. HOW THE FUCK DID WE GET HERE FROM THERE!!!!???? THAT'S THE WHY.
He's saying he doesn't like what the rap scene is right now. And he said he doesn't flex and talk about his blessings in his other songs, but he said I've been humble ain't been flexin ain't been showing off my blessins maybe y'all should take a second to make sure y'all get the message I'm in beast mode. He went in his bag, that's all lol
Not sure if someone’s already pointed it out but he’s more or less targeting mainstream/radio hip-hop that glorifies drugs, objectifying women, and the shallower aspects of the genre. Whereas when hip-hop began it was intended to be against the grain, and be somewhat intellectually stimulating. In addition to that, what I got from the song is that he’s effectively saying “don’t put me in this box” because he doesn’t want to be associated with the glorification of drugs, sex, alcohol, and criminality that is prevalent in mainstream hip-hop. He’s more or less saying “I am my own individual independent entity.” Great reactions thus far, I love the channel, love the content, keep it up guys 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
He basically has a love, hate relationship with hip hop. He likes what hip hop was, but not what it's become. He doesn't shy away from designer clothes, but doesn't push it on the youth, like so many others do. It isn't a top priority for him. Also, if you listen to what he said, he said he doesn't brag, but this one time he will. Ultimately he is saying do NOT put him in a box. He is just himself, and not trying to be anyone else. Mainstream hip hop, does hate people like him. He is an independent, and refuses to play their games.
As an OG from way back in the day that has followed hip hop since the beginning of the Sugar Hill Gang days and grew up listening to everybody from Afrika Bambaataa to Run DMC I can assure you that Tom MacDonald doesn't really hate hip hop and in fact loves it and it's very much a part of who he i as I'm sure you've already found out by now. His message is very much counter culture and unfortunately that would include the music industry. The entire point of the song is not specifically directed to hip hop as a music genre, but the culture that has unfortunately taken it over. By that I mean the thug life gang banging drug dealer lifestyle that is made glamorous and then marketed to kids. But yeah since this is a response to a reaction video several years old you have probably already figured that out. Not gonna lie though...I still find myself missing the glory days of hip hop back in the day before it became absorbed into gang culture. Tom MacDonald's just tryin to correct course and right the ship while feeding young minds TRUTH...which is what hip hop used to always be about. Much Love.
My frist thought with this song was that he's not 'dissing' anyone really, he's just saying what he is and that what some people call him isn't accurate, and usually because of hate he's called those things. There is no 'lane' for Tom to follow, he created his own because there haven't been much in the way of success like Tom's for what he does. I'm new to rap but not to independent artists as I came across Upchurch a while back, before Tom. I don't compare the two because what's the point? Comparisons are also fueled by hate quite often. Tom raps about society and Upchurch raps about growing up country and both rap/sing about doing things their own way.
Mac is hip hop. The beef With him and mac lethal. Is hip hop. Or battle rap. Tom Mac is good at what he do. But he goes at it in a wrong direction. Great review. Lil man. You needs to cheer up bro. Get into it like pops. Keep killin it. Cant wait for another reaction.
I believe 9/10 songs by Tom MacDonald are meant to start conversations. Real conversations - a lot like the one you had with us while you were reacting to & reviewing this song.
My friend, I follow your channel nearly everyday. I came across your content from your music reactions I think it was Tom Max. Now my dude I’m in your exact position when it comes to politics and the woke wack people these days . You kill it bro, I’m a big fan !
Just check his "FAMOUS" song...it will explain this song in detail... all his songs are like a TV shows...take a "TO BE CONTINUED" concept... do them as they came out in order...peace...☮
That was everything before he made this song. He didn't flex on what he had, how much money he was making, none of that. He's also hating for what hip hop has became! He doesn't really hate hip hop, just don't like these new kids coming in, rapping about nothing! You would have to go way back, to follow what he's talking about.. Tom is truth!
It's not hypocrisy man, it's called SATIRE. He was making fun of mainstream hip-hop by dressing up like one.
First person to mention satire. Chicken dinner for you bro.
💯 🔥
He's talking about the rap culture that's negative. Talking about money, drugs, girls, guns. Really dig into him. You'll get his message.
He definitely needs to dig deeper into Tom Macdonald. His messages are never surface level. Always deep explaining things on multiple levels.

If you've been a Tom fan for a while, you'll know he rarely flexes like that, but sometimes haters have to be reminded lol. Don't worry about missing the point of this song, a lot of reactors did, until they listened to it a second time. All of Tom's songs are meant to stir an emotion, and create conversation about a topic whether you agree or disagree, at least people are discussing it. He hates what Hip-Hop has become.
He is building his empire from the ground up. He is not owned by music industry.
LFR: what do we call him?
Tom: I'm Tom MacDonald Bitch
He means what hip-hop become and what's represent now
When he says let me say it from the soul, his eyes are pitch black, meaning he has no soul, and therefore doesn't really hate hip hop.
Great reaction as always, def need to check out more of his stuff. Hope you and the family are good and staying safe.
He's saying he don't like what hip hop is portraying, they glorify money, sex, drugs, and drinking...and it's detrimental to our youth....
He's calling out the industry of hip hop and the negative influence that the industry has on today's youth.
He’s challenging the whole genre like Adam Calhoun
He wasn’t taking shots at country rap ether. He actually did a rap collage with struggle Jennings and up Church.
He is an independent, and refuses to play their games.
his-bean, well said! 💁🏻♀️👏👏
#HOG
He said he wanted to take a minute to make sure you get the message. On why he doesn’t sign a deal, take beats from people, etc. he doesn’t need it.
He would be the Draymond Green of Hip Hop (If we talk about this NBA era)
Much Love.
HOG family are some of the most dedicated fans there are. The comment section here proves it!
HANG OVER GANG FOR LIFE!!
Tom MacDonald is the George Carlin of music
I believe 9/10 songs by Tom MacDonald are meant to start conversations. Real conversations - a lot like the one you had with us while you were reacting to & reviewing this song.
The hypocrisy was intentional...tom drips with satirical sarcasm....the track simply states that tom hates what hiphop has become....
He's totally independent and he's not a little puppet.. Listen to CLONED RAPPERS
You would LOVE his song, Exposure! Also, Sad Rappers, This House, Dear Rappers.....
He’s talking about the 1% and the elite the power music industries and manipulate the minds of our young
Man you definitely missed the message! It was funny watching you both sitting and totally getting it twisted #hangovergang
I love the line blood on our hands don't bother us we bathe in blood. Gets the point across.
Lol 😆 he's saying hip-hop needs a purge 🤣
He wants the new guys to step up it's a challenge hahaha
That was everything before he made this song. He didn't flex on what he had, how much money he was making, none of that. He's also hating for what hip hop has became! He doesn't really hate hip hop, just don't like these new kids coming in, rapping about nothing! You would have to go way back, to follow what he's talking about.. Tom is truth!
