Here's the difference between Nintendo and the others. They're electronics companies. Nintendo is a toy company. Other consoles call their install base "gamers." What does Nintendo call us, though? Players. Ever notice that? Remember "Wii would like to play?" That was Nintendo telling us that we were free to play and laugh and enjoy our games just like we did as kids. Because that's okay. It's good. Other companies want us to "game." Nintendo wants us to play. That's why I love Nintendo and I don't care who knows it.

Chrisroc1 many gamers dont care that Dark Souls is 30fps on switch. We've played DS at less than 30fps on last gen consoles for a long time. Not everyone cares about 60fps 4k shiz like you do.
Chrisroc1 You can play DOOM, Wolfenstein 2, and Dark Souls Remastered portably on the Switch, something that's not offered on other platforms. Sure, they're at 30fps, but so is Breath of the Wild (which won Game of the Year btw). Anyone who thinks that you need 60fps for a game to be "hardcore" is out of their minds. There are esports that run at even lower frames than 30fps.
Yes! I agree with this video so much! I'm glad Nintendo isn't abandoning the younger generation from being creative. I think it's the perfect call on allowing kids (and us older folks excited like me) to still have technology, yet be able to build with a hands on experience. I see this being a great bonding tool for MANY families. Too bad my cat is probably going to be more set on destroying it rather than helping me build it. Lol.
Nintendo is seriously killing it with the Switch! I'm not interested in buying Labo, but I can see a ton of potential in it and a lot of people are going to love it. Completely turned it around after the Wii U and in only one year! One year into the Wii U's life and $300 for the console seemed a bit steep for me, the Switch feels like an absolute steal for $300.
Still there aren't enough AAA titles other than zelda mad odyssey all other games that are available are almost 3-5 years old also a switch emulator is in development. Switch is going through same circumstances as wii u though not that harsh.
Triple A games dont mean much in reality. just games published by Activision or EA. there are plenty of Double A/Indie games on the switch that are much much more fun than over half of my ps4 collection. i agree they need more big 3rd party support. People seem to confuse the concept of third party support and triple a support. i for one couldnt care less about triple a support. its just a pre-order, season pass, lootbox, microtransaction culture that skims you for every penny. triple a used to mean quality. but now its a culture. the industry is aware of this too. they rode the "used to mean quality" into the state that games are into now so that people hear, triple A, and think i need that game. would rather have double a/indie games that have love and sweet poured into and talent. some indies rivial the production value (ie cutscenes, physics, and gameplay) of triple a. no i did not contradict myself. production value and quality are two separate things. rather play an "Indie" game that i put 100 hours into than a triple A assassins creed clone that ill play for 10 hours and get bored of.
Honestly I don't even have a Switch yet, but when I get it, I want to play Shovel Knight, Axiom Verge and Mighty Gunvolt Burst. All indie games that will be extremely fun to play both at home and on the go. I have a PC for graphics heavy games and stuff, and I know most indies are on pc, but I never want to play them sitting at my desk. But just thinking about playing proper platformers on a good handheld is exciting to me!

Doubt i would pay $80 for this. I know my kids and cardboard wont hold up to their awesome destructive powers. Fun idea but from someone who doesn't have kids themselves. here is how it would go. 1) build the things. (fun) 2) kids play with it for an evening. (fun if they hold up) 3) kids forget about cardboard peaces things get stacked on them crumpled ripped.(not fun) 4) kids remember the things want dad to fix through a fit when it looks wonky and duct taped together (really not fun) 5) kids refuse to play with the things and want you to buy new stuff ( regret ever buying in the first place) 6) toss it all out when they are at school.(hope they forget all about it) 7) grandmother buys them a new set for Christmas (wash and repeat above instructions) )
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and really enjoying discovering your videos (found your channel through the Happy Console Gamer channel). Surprised to see so many complaints about "clickbait" titles. Truthfully I don't see them that way. I see them as sarcastic titles. You just know the majority of people who don't like the Nintendo Switch for whatever reason (genuine or just via plain bias) are going to be saying exactly what you have stated in your title. Anyway really enjoyed your preview of what is being promised with Labo! I don't own a Switch myself yet (I'm mainly using a PC and PS4 to satisfy my modern day gaming fix) but am genuinely tempted more and more each day into buying one. Your quality Switch videos are only helping my decision! Love your enthusiasm for this product.

Plus a true "clickbait" title would have been something like "You simply won't believe what I think about Nintendo Labo (especially the fishing rod)!". Sarcasm and clickbait are two very different beasts.
been following this channel for months now and i must say, Wood's titles on his vids are pretty funny and awesome :D and oh, the switch can eat up your game time. I have a PC and a PS4 but i rarely use both of them when i got my switch. i use my pc for more than 8 hours a day because of my work, and when i'm too tired to sit in front of it, i just lay down on my bed with my switch on my hands. and when i'm too sleepy to continue i just put it on the desk beside my bed and i'm off to sleep lol. the switch is a godsend for busy working people imo.
Barn you just ask someone send you pics of it and 3d print the toys. They will be sturdy and last longer. Forget get them barn. They will steal your and other people's ad money on RUclips but want us to pay $70-80 for CARDBOARD.

At first I didn't like the idea. The idea seemed trivial and more like a gimmick to me. Then I remembered that I had a 5 year old nephew who plays the switch too and that he would love something like this. I keep forgetting that I'm a 25 year old man and that Nintendo was and has always been a company for kids at heart. I know my nephew will enjoy this and the kids is really what matters here. It's kind of like leggos that you can use to play video games with... what more can a kid want? As an adult, i'll just patiently wait for the next Pokemon game... like most adults do.
I have a one year old who's a long way off from this sort of thing, but it makes me excited for the future because I know Nintendo is gonna give us stuff that I can share my childhood with my little guy.

He just commented in his recent video that it has led to a pretty bad bout of depression. And when it boils down to it, he is uploading really good, positive and respectful content (in a world of sensationalist news content), and putting him self out there (I wouldn't have the balls to do what he does) and using silly titles. At the cost of this guy's mental health, I don't see any justification in attacking him. Maybe if he was charging people money, man I dunno. I am just a firm believer in positivity, and that if you don't like someone's content, then don't watch it.

BeatEmUps is definitely one of my favourite channels right now. All the enthusiasm and the videos he's making are all stuff I'm into lately and can relate to. But his charisma, down to earth attitude, and let's not forget his humour, makes him one of the most likeable persons on RUclips, IMHO. Cheers!
I'm actually really looking forward to this. My girlfriend got really excited about the miscellaneous pack of stuff with the piano when we watched the trailer and I see it being something really fun to do with my niece when I finish the spare room and she gets to come for sleepovers
I think the ToyCons being cardboard is cool from the educational point of view. Like, something like a plastic joystick that does stuff in a game is not a foreign concept to kids, they expect those things to have electronics inside (just like a lot of them expect all phone and handheld screens to be touchscreens). Building something out of a plain flat sheet of cardboard is a bit more magical in that way. Plus it's cheap to make, easy to repair, you can personalize it with stickers and markers easily, and so on. Making an assembly kit from something sturdier, like plywood, acrylic, injection-molded plastic, metal, etc. each has practical considerations. A cardboard kit needs no special tools, you can have parts with folds and corners, the basic tab and slot structure can be made very sturdy, and it's safe for children to work on with limited supervision, fuss and frustration (no glue fumes, small pieces, or physical prowess requirements).
I don't think it's a bad idea at all ... I'm just worried about it being cardboard. Like how durable is it going to be especially with kids playing with them, children aren't exactly careful. And if they break easily, will nintendo provide spares? Or provide the plans free of charge or will they only sell them in full sets.
While I'm not giving you a guarantee, it all depends on how you construct the cardboard. With the right technique of layering/folding, you get something you have to actually try to break. Nintendo has been in the business of making indestructible stuff for decades now.
Lunchbox Gaming there was an interview with nintendo and they stated that the plans are free. You can find those on the internet. And they also plan to sell spare products for a much lower price. Also, there are already some spare materials in the kit self.

I’m glad you are liking the idea. I am very excited for what this could mean. This is a great sort of pseudo augmented reality idea. With Korg releasing a music creation tool and Nintendo creating a mini keyboard for it, could be super fun.
I'm not sure what to think, kinda looks cool but a high price may leave a bad after taste, especially if the novelty wears off fast ... still looks fun
bradman006 at least the replacement cardboards blueprints will be free to download online. Mainly its the game, which its already 60 plus 10 or 20 for the original branded materials.
We really are paying for the R&D on this one. There is software and engineering R&D that probably took years to "get it right". Also, a healthy dose of profit for the shareholders, I'm sure. Having the blueprints available for download is genius, actually this whole project is beyond genius! I definitely didn't see this coming. Kudos Nintendo!
The price might seem high but you're getting a lot of value for that amount. Remember, part of the fun is building the kits. You can then use them with the Switch to play games, and then even when you remove the Switch, you still have the "toy cons" which I'm sure people will collect and decorate their rooms with so it has long-lasting value in that sense. Individual Lego kits go for 20 - 30 bucks. The Labo variety kit, which includes several individual kits, goes for 70 bucks. That's not bad at all.
As much as I agree that the idea is kind of silly, the over-reaction from just about everyone over Nintendo announcing the Labo is making you all look like idiots. If you're really that salty, just don't buy a Labo. It'll show them how you feel a heck of a lot better than just declaring "I SHALL NEVER AGAIN BUY A NINTENDO SWITCH GAME!! THUS IS MY DECREE, YOU FILTHY CHEAPSKATES!!!" like just about everyone seems to want to act. EDIT: You have to admit, the stuff you can do with those piles of cardboard is pretty impressive. And it's great for the environment too. Cardboard is made from trees, which are renewable. Metal and plastic, on the other hand, are not. Plastic is made from fossil fuels, which only come around every million years or so, and metals come from meteors. All in all, I kind of commend Nintendo for taking a new approach to making their console accessories.

Labo will be a hit with me and my kid. We both love building and crafting as well as drawing. This will provide hours of bonding and entertainment. The price which includes cartridge and materials is well worth the enjoyment we're about to have. Preordered and ready to play!

When I saw it I thought, damn that's brilliant. Even if I'm not going to play most of them I was just in awe of how inspiring the company can be. I've loved Nintendo since the NES and they always come back into my life with that shine of childlike joy.

Amazing review for this! One of the few reviewers who has seen the creative aspects of this. Must say as a maker myself and minor cosplayer, I too was suprised by the prices of the cardboard (i mean its pre-cut and comes with the game and all the strings for it). Hope others can lighten up about this and see why nintendo did it.

I think this is definitely gonna be huge. There will be music kit bundle, laboratory kit bundle, adventure kit bundle, and so on. And it's a lot cheaper than plastic peripherals.
I loved your point about Labo being good for all us. Even if you're not on (card)board, it's going to make money which will fuel other games for everyone. And the focus on being creative is wonderful.
I want this too... All i see is "DIY science projects" and i want that for my kids, for me to spend time with them building these and making them work. And i think it's pronounced "Lab-bow" as in the first syllables of Laboratory, which puts me back in line with my first impression "DIY science projects"

Doubt i would pay $80 for this. I know my kids and cardboard wont hold up to their awesome destructive powers. Fun idea but from someone who doesn't have kids themselves. here is how it would go.
1) build the things. (fun)
2) kids play with it for an evening. (fun if they hold up)
3) kids forget about cardboard peaces things get stacked on them crumpled ripped.(not fun)
4) kids remember the things want dad to fix through a fit when it looks wonky and duct taped together (really not fun)
5) kids refuse to play with the things and want you to buy new stuff ( regret ever buying in the first place)
6) toss it all out when they are at school.(hope they forget all about it)
7) grandmother buys them a new set for Christmas (wash and repeat above instructions)

I'm a new subscriber to your channel and really enjoying discovering your videos (found your channel through the Happy Console Gamer channel).
Surprised to see so many complaints about "clickbait" titles. Truthfully I don't see them that way. I see them as sarcastic titles. You just know the majority of people who don't like the Nintendo Switch for whatever reason (genuine or just via plain bias) are going to be saying exactly what you have stated in your title.
Anyway really enjoyed your preview of what is being promised with Labo! I don't own a Switch myself yet (I'm mainly using a PC and PS4 to satisfy my modern day gaming fix) but am genuinely tempted more and more each day into buying one. Your quality Switch videos are only helping my decision! Love your enthusiasm for this product.

and oh, the switch can eat up your game time. I have a PC and a PS4 but i rarely use both of them when i got my switch. i use my pc for more than 8 hours a day because of my work, and when i'm too tired to sit in front of it, i just lay down on my bed with my switch on my hands. and when i'm too sleepy to continue i just put it on the desk beside my bed and i'm off to sleep lol. the switch is a godsend for busy working people imo.

To be fair, it wasn't marketed towards our demographic, but towards kids! Because that's how they started.
At first I didn't like the idea. The idea seemed trivial and more like a gimmick to me. Then I remembered that I had a 5 year old nephew who plays the switch too and that he would love something like this. I keep forgetting that I'm a 25 year old man and that Nintendo was and has always been a company for kids at heart. I know my nephew will enjoy this and the kids is really what matters here. It's kind of like leggos that you can use to play video games with... what more can a kid want? As an adult, i'll just patiently wait for the next Pokemon game... like most adults do.

He just commented in his recent video that it has led to a pretty bad bout of depression. And when it boils down to it, he is uploading really good, positive and respectful content (in a world of sensationalist news content), and putting him self out there (I wouldn't have the balls to do what he does) and using silly titles. At the cost of this guy's mental health, I don't see any justification in attacking him. Maybe if he was charging people money, man I dunno. I am just a firm believer in positivity, and that if you don't like someone's content, then don't watch it.

BeatEmUps is definitely one of my favourite channels right now. All the enthusiasm and the videos he's making are all stuff I'm into lately and can relate to.
But his charisma, down to earth attitude, and let's not forget his humour, makes him one of the most likeable persons on RUclips, IMHO.

I think the ToyCons being cardboard is cool from the educational point of view. Like, something like a plastic joystick that does stuff in a game is not a foreign concept to kids, they expect those things to have electronics inside (just like a lot of them expect all phone and handheld screens to be touchscreens). Building something out of a plain flat sheet of cardboard is a bit more magical in that way.
Plus it's cheap to make, easy to repair, you can personalize it with stickers and markers easily, and so on. Making an assembly kit from something sturdier, like plywood, acrylic, injection-molded plastic, metal, etc. each has practical considerations. A cardboard kit needs no special tools, you can have parts with folds and corners, the basic tab and slot structure can be made very sturdy, and it's safe for children to work on with limited supervision, fuss and frustration (no glue fumes, small pieces, or physical prowess requirements).
I don't think it's a bad idea at all ... I'm just worried about it being cardboard. Like how durable is it going to be especially with kids playing with them, children aren't exactly careful. And if they break easily, will nintendo provide spares? Or provide the plans free of charge or will they only sell them in full sets.
While I'm not giving you a guarantee, it all depends on how you construct the cardboard. With the right technique of layering/folding, you get something you have to actually try to break.
Nintendo has been in the business of making indestructible stuff for decades now.
Lunchbox Gaming there was an interview with nintendo and they stated that the plans are free. You can find those on the internet. And they also plan to sell spare products for a much lower price. Also, there are already some spare materials in the kit self.
What I feel a lot of people are overlooking when they see the high price tag is that you’re also buying the software.
I get that ... but are you really going to play the games without the cardboard toy things? Or even can you? It'll be interesting to see more hands on demos before release.

I’m glad you are liking the idea. I am very excited for what this could mean. This is a great sort of pseudo augmented reality idea. With Korg releasing a music creation tool and Nintendo creating a mini keyboard for it, could be super fun.

We really are paying for the R&D on this one. There is software and engineering R&D that probably took years to "get it right". Also, a healthy dose of profit for the shareholders, I'm sure. Having the blueprints available for download is genius, actually this whole project is beyond genius! I definitely didn't see this coming. Kudos Nintendo!
The price might seem high but you're getting a lot of value for that amount. Remember, part of the fun is building the kits. You can then use them with the Switch to play games, and then even when you remove the Switch, you still have the "toy cons" which I'm sure people will collect and decorate their rooms with so it has long-lasting value in that sense.
Individual Lego kits go for 20 - 30 bucks. The Labo variety kit, which includes several individual kits, goes for 70 bucks. That's not bad at all.

As much as I agree that the idea is kind of silly, the over-reaction from just about everyone over Nintendo announcing the Labo is making you all look like idiots. If you're really that salty, just don't buy a Labo. It'll show them how you feel a heck of a lot better than just declaring "I SHALL NEVER AGAIN BUY A NINTENDO SWITCH GAME!! THUS IS MY DECREE, YOU FILTHY CHEAPSKATES!!!" like just about everyone seems to want to act.
EDIT: You have to admit, the stuff you can do with those piles of cardboard is pretty impressive. And it's great for the environment too. Cardboard is made from trees, which are renewable. Metal and plastic, on the other hand, are not. Plastic is made from fossil fuels, which only come around every million years or so, and metals come from meteors. All in all, I kind of commend Nintendo for taking a new approach to making their console accessories.
I must admit, nintendo never ceases to amaze me, love Nintendo and love you, Wood. Keep up the good work, and keep them videos coming ;D

Labo will be a hit with me and my kid. We both love building and crafting as well as drawing. This will provide hours of bonding and entertainment. The price which includes cartridge and materials is well worth the enjoyment we're about to have. Preordered and ready to play!

Personally I'm not gonna buy it but I do find it really interesting how it all works on a tech level. Like.. how the IR camera, some cardboard and some reflective foil all interfaces with the switch. It's really neat.
When I saw it I thought, damn that's brilliant. Even if I'm not going to play most of them I was just in awe of how inspiring the company can be. I've loved Nintendo since the NES and they always come back into my life with that shine of childlike joy.

Amazing review for this! One of the few reviewers who has seen the creative aspects of this. Must say as a maker myself and minor cosplayer, I too was suprised by the prices of the cardboard (i mean its pre-cut and comes with the game and all the strings for it). Hope others can lighten up about this and see why nintendo did it.

I think this is definitely gonna be huge. There will be music kit bundle, laboratory kit bundle, adventure kit bundle, and so on. And it's a lot cheaper than plastic peripherals.
