Almost six years after and you are still helping folks with this guide :) I am an IT guy and therefore a non-practical person. But with this video it was easy. Thanks man :)
Thanks so much for this very helpful video! I was able to assemble it completely on my own, just needed to go commandeer a neighbour to help me stand it up and move it into place. That sucker is heavy!!
Thank you! I bought the old style Expedit second hand which had no instructions. Your instructions were easy so I managed to build it by myself but got my friend helped me to lift it, you do it so easily but I could not. I also found putting the pins all together to make the second and turn it into a square quite difficult, so I used my fingers to individually put pins the side of the wall in. Once again, thank you.
Im dismantling one tomorrow its about 6ft x 6ft and will have to put it back together so thank you for this ....recon I will need your tutorial x Brilliant
Thank you for saving me from attempting to construct a 770mm unit in a very narrow space - It would never have worked with less than 5mm working space to the sides; was hoping that the shelves would sit on pegs but clearly that is not the case.
I found this to be pretty difficult to do by myself. The shelves sometimes didn't slide against each other properly (and toward the end wouldn't meet), and a few of my pegs ended up snapping, one of them inside a hole. I was setting it up in an old house with a crooked floor - I'm thinking that could be the source of my problem. Thanks for the helpful video!
To make the shelf more secure, sturdy, and long-lasting, I recommend using wood or even plain Elmer's glue for all the pegs and on any surface-to-surface contact point. Use a wet rag to wipe off the excess as you go.
this was fantastic.. do you have a video on how to assemble the 4 inserts.. Im confused as to whether we have to screw holes into the sides of the unit to adhere the cupboard.
I have a similar shelf. There are the pegs, several screws in one size and two smaller ones. There are also two little bottles of glue. What are the two little screws for and can I skip using the glue (in case I need to take it apart again; the material is massive)?
Ikea Assembly Instructions are extremely easy to follow, pretty much idiot proof....I would think. I built the same 16x16 space Kallax and took me about 1 hour and half to completely build it. I also use a small amount of Gorilla glue on the pegs which helps keep it secure and less wobble after assembly.
I just ordered this second hand and im actually going to trasnform it into a guinea pig cage. Im going to keep the frame as it is, and im going to screw the three long shelves to the bottom with four of the smzll squares to make a floor. I am going to use the remaining squares to make an over hang that they gan hide under and some more to make a dish holder. It will just need some pet safe varnish so they dont ruin the wood.
I just assembled a second hand unit and have significant wobbling. Sources online said to ensure all the shelves are fitted tight, closing the gaps so that everything is squared, they said using a rubber mallet is very helpful to get rid of all the gaps and force all the pegs as deep as possible. I might have to go over my unit and do this. I hope I can get rid of the wobble because it seems unstable
Thank you :) I have a question. The long 'big' boards, are they heavy to carry? I want to carry them while on my bike. I was wondering if that was possible. Thanks!
I've got the same problem and I built mine on it's side so I can still get the bolts fastened. I don't know how it will behave if I were to use it this way, but now I can wait until I can get a neighbour to help turn it! Mine is the biggest version with 5 X 5 boxes!
Tami Williams You'll need to find IKEA's special tool for screwing/unscrewing bolts. Check out their website or give them a call - they might be nice enough to send you one for free!
I got mine from IKEA second hand. My pegs were to long and thin to fit in the shelf hole. Even using a hammer didn't help much. Mind you O didn't dare to hammer to hard. So I'm still not done. Anybody else had this problem?

Thank you soooo much for this! My shelf has now been assembled:)
IKEA Builders Unite! 💪🏻
On mine, it didn't take screwdrivers, but a single hex wrench. Thanks for the video. This was way easier to understand than the printed instructions.
+Todd Bradley The newer version must come with hex screws - cool!
Just bought this unit used. Thank you for posting this!
You're welcome - glad I could help!

Great Video 🤛🏿
Thanks! 🤜🏻
Just put one together. Pretty simple and looks great. Now the hard part, to load it up with all my junk.
But at least that’s the fun part 🙌🏻
Nice, clear instructional. Thank you.
You’re very welcome Tom!
Thank you so much !! For your time
Glad to help!
A simple $10 rubber mallet from the hardware store made a huge difference with the pegs.
David, thank you for your suggestion regarding the IKEA bolt removal tool. I will call them!
Getting a delivery tomorrow. Gotta get a brief overview before i embark on the challenge 😂
You got this! 💪🏻
This is a video that saves lives lol
I'm a lifesaver! 🙌

boisebaileys great recommendation!

That depends on what you'll be storing, the integrity of the materials, etc. Glue is only there to strengthen the bond between the pegs/joints.
do you have any tips for getting it upright once it's assembled? There's nothing to grip to lift it! Thanks
Thanks gonna buy it now !
Glad to help!
thank you!!
Glad to help!
lol, just bought a 25 cube delivered, used slightly, and all for 50 bucks installed. Hit quit on this realizing how lucky I was for such a deal.
Seriously - that’s a steal!

I am assembling 4 for a lady and wanted to see how long it will take to put them together.
Best video I've found on putting this cheap piece of shit together! 👍
Haha, thanks!
Thank you soooo much!
Quick question how did you get the lights their on the black shelf on the back ground it's pretty cool?!!
Tiffany - if you're talking about the orange crystal lamp, we got it on Amazon! Try here: amzn.to/1XBALQE
Or if you're talking about the "under-cabinet" lights on the top row of cubes they are the IKEA Dioder model: amzn.to/1r3u6F1
+DavidGalipp thanks!

This sounds awesome! I’d love to see the final product when you’re finished!
I jist built this unit and it jist sways a little to the rigjt. any suggestions to make it not sway or be wobbly

Thank you :) I have a question. The long 'big' boards, are they heavy to carry? I want to carry them while on my bike. I was wondering if that was possible. Thanks!
Yes, these are WAY too big to carry while on a bike.
+DavidGalipp can i carry this by hand home on the metro system do you think?
+Caylon la mantia Not at all - the entire set weighs 128 lbs. and comes in 2 boxes. Maybe delivery is your best bet?
they are heavy...impossible on a bike ;)
Hi. Is there any reason to start from the top? It would be too heavy for me to lift on my own so was thinking to assemble from base up.
It would be impossible to build this from the ground up, since the last few steps involve the outer edges.
I've got the same problem and I built mine on it's side so I can still get the bolts fastened. I don't know how it will behave if I were to use it this way, but now I can wait until I can get a neighbour to help turn it! Mine is the biggest version with 5 X 5 boxes!
My pegs were very hard to put in and when I used a hammer the pegs split.....very frustrating.
Sometimes IKEA sends a couple extra in the hardware packets - you can also visit the store and pocket a handful at their customer service desk!
Muchas Gracias!
De nada! 👍🏻
I got one from my neighbor and need to disassemble it to move it. Any idea how to get the bolts out?
Tami Williams You'll need to find IKEA's special tool for screwing/unscrewing bolts. Check out their website or give them a call - they might be nice enough to send you one for free!

Awesome how to video! Do you hire out?

IKEA is great - they provide replacement pegs if needed!
Can this fit original Xbox and a PS4? I know it’s 13 x 13
I believe the Xbox One is 13.1" on one side, so it might be a stretch fitting one inside. Were you able to get it to work?
thanks so much for this. mine didn't come with instructions...
+Syrup Sucker That’s the worst! 😱
Do you know what the dimensions of the insides of each box is?
Trying to see if I can fit my vinyl records into the boxes? (12x12 in)
IKEA sell inserts that carry shelves, doors and drawers and on the website the dimensions are given as 30 X 30 cm.
I need one
2:42 - how did yo do that so easily?!
Slow and steady wins the race!

Is it only me? The upper shelf is pryed as hell at the end of the video when furniture is lifted up. ???
Nah, just you. :D
That would be the fisheye lens from my GoPro!
