      What do you mean "clean" and "dirty"? I don't understand, thank you!

    The A-21s sound killer! Just ordered a matched pair. Thanks for the comparison!

    Where in the chain are these inserted>? confuse... and the variations don't even sound gain matched...

    A21 is a little more beefy. Love them! Ouncers are my favourite for guitars tho. thx for the vid!

    Great vid! Ed, could you explain how you're incorporating the Xformer? are you plugging the 57 into it, then into the pre? Also, how did you wire it? I don't understand the technology well enough to know the pinout, but I'd like to order one.

      The Superweaks check the description. Nowadays I would probably remove the built in sm57 transformer and replace it with an old audio matching transformer but not in a 1:1 setup, something more extreme to make the impedance and output level more appropriate

    I got A-20. Still, it's not the best transformer in the world... Try Telefunken's stuff.

      telefunkens are very clean, not much mojo.

    Can you describe your signal chain. The 57 went into the board and not through a UTC, I assume. The guitar AB tested between guitar and amp. These are all assumptions on my part

    Thanks for the video! What ohm configuration( primary-secondary) was used for the two transformers?

  • @hervefreire

    Great sound!!! do you connect the gtr cable (unbalance) direct to the UTC and then to the in of the amp?

    • @metalhead3ecr
      @metalhead3ecr  7 лет назад

      Hervê Freire check the description. These transformers are inserted between the microphone and the console. 500:500 are max windings

    Just to clarify! Did you yank the transformer out of the 57 before this test? Or is it a stock 57 with these after? Thanks!

    • @metalhead3ecr
      @metalhead3ecr  5 лет назад

      Great question! This was some time ago and I foolishly left the sm57 transformer intact. So everything you hear has been through two transformers (sm57 + UTC).

      @@metalhead3ecr no worries dude! it honestly sounds awesome which is why i was asking what the exact chain was. just purchased a pair for the studio. thank you so much!

    How did you wire the xlr cables to the A-20? I’ve got one on the way, thanks!

    • @metalhead3ecr
      @metalhead3ecr  6 лет назад

      Analog Andrew nowadays I would take pin 2 and ground to the 50 ohm primary and use the 500 ohm secondary as output, really make the transformer work. It will be an unbalanced signal.
