I'm a 35 year old geoscientist and I recommend any young student thiking about studying any geoscience to find out REALLY well what the job will be like. It's easy to get carried away by the beauty of nature but the actual job is probably tedious so make sure you know what you are getting into.
I’m 35 and halfway through my BS Geology degree. Both my parents got their first degrees in their 60s. Can’t wait to get started on my Masters. It really is never too late!
Congratulations on your hard work. I took a Geology class 1st year college. I eventually got my B.A. in International Relations from USC. Sometimes I wish I had pursued Geology as a major.
hi, im a Geosciences student from nmmu south africa, In the past four years i have never reallybeen out in the field, i wish id live geology rather than study theory in class only.
Darlington Gwanzura I'm a 3rd year student at UJ. We always go to the field every year. 5 days in the free State on our first year. Mpumalanga and some parts of Limpopo in our second year then another 2 days at around August, 2 more days in November for a field exam. 3rd year we'll be going to KZN in June for 10 days in the field. I'm surprised your varsity doesn't do such.
ashok a the scenario is very different here in India. If you join Private firms @entry level posts it will mainly be for gaining hands on Experience. A masters in our field isnt just recommended its a necessity. The only way in is through The competitive exams gate or csirNet or GSI etc. Or we always have the option to go abroad for additional Master studied or better a PhD
WHERE DO I FIND OUT WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY DO??!! honestly im considering either hydrology or chemistry. I guess ill find out next semester when i get into geology course *o* but that will be my last semester so i need to hurry ;-;
I'm interested in starting this degree just now and I'm 25! Currently also doing a degree in Astronomy which I'll complete when I'm 29 -32! Glad to see others doing the same! As I feel like I'm years behind sometimes :/
Why would it be too late? Time is going to pass whether you are studying and working at this or not, so might as well be productive and follow your passion. I'm sure at age 50 you'll look back and see how young you are at this moment.
I hv just completed bsc geology and am 21 yrs old..i wanna work abroad and if there is any option that i can join any job abroad.. Someone please advice me.. Just to get an idea about what i need to do next pls
I had to go into the Manufacturing industry to actually make a living after I graduated. During my lunches I drew cross sections and entertained some of the Engineers but they weren't that interested. One of my college Geo classmates had to go into plumbing in Houston. Another friend from college went into Elementary Education in order to make a living. My son followed in my footsteps with a BS in Geology. Now he puts on double tyvek suits/double rubber gloves doing haz mat spill clean up work in the bay area. My Aunt got her BS in Geology and had to get a second degree in Library Science to work in a high school. Geology is a hard core Science and a fascinating study. Major in Geology because you love it but have a back up plan if you want to make a living.
Seriously, I guess 4 years can change a lot in society, nowadays, geology is known as one of the best science jobs because there are so many entry-level jobs you can get with just a bachelors.

Very nice your work
Can anyone tell me if it is hard to find a job as a geologist after you graduate?
It's hard right now. Too many geo grads but limited job openings. This is happening worldwide.
It's reaaaally hard
With a B.S. degree? Basically nothing. You will need at least a Master's to get an entry level job.
Tommy Truth not true whatsoever.
