  • The 79th in my Retro Goa Explorations series of videos in which I present some of my favourite 'Goa Trance' tracks from the '90s.
In this series, I go back to my first experiences in the Goa Trance electronic dance music movement starting in late 1994, drawing upon my recollections of hearing specific music at certain events and using my classical music background explore the elements that I believe make these tracks so great.
The series is currently focused on music I first encountered in the '96-97 season, starting in September 1996, when I moved to London. The track in this episode was actually issued on a less-known vinyl earlier in 96 but I got it on DAT in mid-97 prior to its release more internationally on a transient CD and LP later that year: Parasonix (aka Nick Taylor & AB) and their epic stormer Warp Phaze. After I give some details about the artists in this project, I present the music simultaneously with my observations; after some closing remarks, I then share the track without commentary.
I played this track in my first set at ZNA in 2015:

This genre is a gift that keeps on giving. Even now, when revisiting the works from the late 90s I still find artists & tracks that I'd never heard/appreciated before.

What a blaster. You can really tell just how much Nick influenced Prana's early sound when you hear his other projects/ collaborations. Also I'm curious to know what A.B. expands to 😅

Great episode, thanks for sharing! I really appreciate the background, the little stories and your commentary on the track itself. On a separate note, haven’t seen Electric Universe in any of the episodes, I wonder if any coming up.

Hey there, you're right, I haven't - and the reason is I simply didn't get my hands on his music at the time... I don't recall any of it showing up in trades and I don't know why I didn't get any albums back then but I didn't - just an early track on the 1st Spirit Zone comp, and everything on that was eclipsed by the two TIP tracks that were light years ahead of everything else on every other label too! I'll have to dig to see if I recognize any more of his music from the time even if I didn't own it. A great producer and very important musician, for sure, and an odd omission from the tracks that were being presented to me in my trade sessions and also in my purchases...
