    It’s fascinating how no world leader nor politician is held accountable and never have to keep their word or promises.
    They are like the weather man, sometimes right, often wrong, but still get paid and enjoy a luxurious life.

      How about this truth the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances. This memorandum was signed on December 5, 1994, by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It provided security assurances to Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear-weapon state and the transfer of its nuclear arsenal to Russia.

    On 27 May 1997, at the NATO Summit in Paris, France, NATO and Russia signed the Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security. One of the points clearly stated that signees "Respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all states and their inherent right to choose the means of ensuring their own security as well as the inviolability of borders and the right of self-determination of peoples". Additionally, the act established a forum called the "NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council". Question: have you even heard of this clear RUSSIAN acceptance of other countries ability to choose alliances freely?!?
    On the point of law: the verbal promise was made in 1990 to a leader of USSR (which soon siezed to exist), the WRITTEN agreement was signed in 1997 by leader of Russia. THE LATER WRITTEN AGREEMENT IS THE BINDING ONE!
    BTW, since we are talking about verbal promisses: "On a press conference on 28 May 2002 NATO Summit, president Putin was asked about Ukraine's intention ot join NATO and answered that "our position on expansion of NATO is known, but Ukraine should not stand aside of the global processes to strengthen the world security and, as a sovereign country, it's able to make its own choices in ensuring its security". Will you hold Mr Putin to adhere his own words as well?!?

      @@antoinedebiran3000 Right, Vladimir Putin, who:
      - at age of 18 went into KGB and declared that he wanted to be an agent;
      - became KGB agent at 23 in 1975 and was active untill 1990, including 5 years in East Germany where he recruited informants and sources to be used against NATO countries;
      - was chief of FSB in 1998-99;
      - asked what was the greatest tragedy in hostory replied "the fall uf USSR";
      - changed the melody of Russian anthem BACK to that from the USSR (with changed words off cource);
      - insisted in taking over independent media (by state-owned companies or those "friendly" to him) like NTW television in 2001, because he did not like them reporting on corruption in highest ruling and business circles;
      that man "suddenly" decided (in 2014) that NATO is a threat?!? Because majority of Ukrainians, including most of ruling (pro-russian) party decides that President of Ukraine Viktor Janukowych's orders to shoot at unarmed protesters, which lead to over 100 deaths, was actually illegal and removed him from office?

What have they offerred, apart from "Russia's freinedhip and brotherhood" that those countries got to know quite well since 1945???
      WHY are you people stubborny insist that INDEPENDENT nations DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO ACT INDEPENDANTLY?!?
      Because this is exactly what Russia's ultimatum delivered in early 2022 contained! Putin actually wanted to expulse US troops from Europe and have a deciding voice in who could be training in countriles like Poland. That was, let me remind you, decades after 110 million of people in Central Europe, Balkan Peninsula told Russians to get the f... out and worked very hard to improve both stability of their ecomonies, their governments and their military standards to join NATO and in most cases EU. And now majority of almost 50 million of Ukrainians want to do the same, so Putin invaded them, to stop it. And you are actually defending him!
      You have the nerve to tell me to "put youself in Russian shoes"? You should ask yourself if you'd like to live in totalitarian state. Move to Russia or Belarus for 5 years and ONLY THAN you'll actuall have a idea what you are talking about!

It provided security assurances to Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear-weapon state and the transfer of its nuclear arsenal to Russia. The USA Russia and UK violated this treaty.

    Gorbachev accepted the reunification because he was powerless to do otherwise. If he were to make a resistance, it wouldn’t work because his economy was collapsing.
    I understand the point you’re making, but one of the parties involved in this agreement no longer exist. There is no Soviet union. The Baltic states are free. Ukraine has independence. Georgia as independence. Belarus has independence. None of those countries were independent at the time. They were subjugated in this larger Soviet union.

    The term "NATO expansion" is misleading, it implies that NATO forciply expanded to the current boundaires rather than what really happened. Which was that easter European did not want to be invaded after Moscow led two brutal invasions of Chechnya. Plus if it really freaked them out, then they wouldnt be moving all ground troops from their new NATO border with Finland. It truly does not make sense for them to do that if NATO truly posed such an existential threat

    The initial expansion was in 1999. That did not strain Russian NATO ties. There was a joint nato Russian platform. This was effective in getting us to use liberated former Soviet steppe countries to go after al Quaeda and the Taliban. The first split was over Iraq. Russia felt that it opinion on the state of Iraq was not being listened to. There were warnings from bush senior security and intelligence guys that the risk to Russia American relations were at risk over this policy. The post Iraq war nato expansion was rapid but only after Russian aggression to its neighbors were being voiced and later acted upon.

    Yeah, our word is no longer trustworthy. I watched the Tucker/Putin interview and last night the Tucker/ Lavrov interview. WE have gone back on our word, not been trustworthy, and in many instances painted Russia as something they are not. I like Sergey Lavrov. He seems very level headed and honest- and I have listened to him before, last night was not the first time. All they want is to be treated fairly. Also, Putin in his older years , to me comes off as someone who reveres life and the lives of his people. USA government have been the ones who have not been trustworthy, lacking integrity. So sad that we have had people representing USA that don't represent the people's wishes. The constituents don't want war. Only the war machine wants war. The people who are enriching themselves want war. Luckily, we know, Jerimiah 23:5 ~ God is Just. The " Lake of Fire " awaits.

      That "verbal assurance" is irrelevant is it wasn't a written agreement. It was also a promise made with the head of the USSR which collapsed shortly after. Russia failed to keep their side of the Budapest memorandum, an actual bipartisan treaty. They would respect Ukraines sovereignty and borders, yet they annexed Crimea in 2014. Before that NATO veto'd every Ukraine membership application as Ukraine would remain neutral as long as Russia respected its borders. After 2014, Ukraine had every right to join NATO.

    • @LK-ui9rx
      @LK-ui9rx 29 дней назад

      @ Removing the gold standard was done by formal agreements and legislation, not by Nixon "verbally agreeing" to remove the gold standard. And what does that have to do with anything. Politicians verbally assure and lie all the time, Putin does it all the time, the US presidents, everyone. That's why written and signed agreements exist.

    • @Romans15.32
      @Romans15.32 28 дней назад

      @LK-ui9rx I agree with you that people lie. It's a big part of the problem. Politicians make promises to get in office then follow their own agenda. I never said the removal of the gold standard was verbal. IMO it wasn't a smart move for the people, it only benefited government/federal reserve. No matter what, I agree with PBD - your word matters. Integrity matters. Do some roll reversal on the NATO borders. USA would not tolerate what is happening. It's good to be able to talk out opinions in an adult way, without name calling or yelling. I appreciate your opinion.

Let me explain him: Those verbal agreements are only valid for the ones involved. Nations and future political leaders can't be forever stucked for things said and done in the past because times change and the World evolves. Another thing for the less smart guy: Nations and their people are free to choose if they want to be part of NATO, EU, BRICS, etc. It's an individual choice made by every country based on their freedom of choice and sovereignty.
