    Nice review. For $359 it's been a great pickup.
    Software is a little inconsistent. For instance the blue tooth connection won't auto connect to my tic watch pro 5. Have to go into the settings. Sometimes the touch response just fails as well
    The speaker phone is surprisingly quiet despite the speakers being very loud for media
    Cameras aren't bad. Digital zoom isn't up to snuff compared to my Pixel 7 but the selfie actually does a pretty good job. Low light shots are ok as well but again not as sharp as the Pixel. PRO MODE produces some very good shots if you're into that
    Nice panel and it has the flicker protection and extra dimming for night time eye comfort. This nobody talks about.
    The fast charging is a breath of fresh air.
    Gaming is very good and can't complain about anything in that realm.
    Updates have been coming frequently.
    This is a really tough phone and surprisingly light and pocketable at 188 grams.
    Battery lasts for ages even set on 144 hz refresh

      Has the Bluetooth and the speaker issue been fixed?

    • @wiredspeaker5658
      @wiredspeaker5658 Месяц назад

      Yeah they fixed it with a update so the Bluetooth actually pairs very well with up to three devices. Honestly I wouldn't even waste my time with the thinkphone because the OnePlus 12R is so much nicer for the same money... Unless you can't live without ready for

    The Ready For desktop mode running directly from the phone to a monitor (not to a PC) is the best way to go. Full desktop experience up to 4K resolution. Better even than Samsung DeX.

    How does this compare to Samsung a54?

  • @dumbo3200
    @dumbo3200 Год назад +1

    You got a Like because of the cat video at the end LOL. (otherwise I might have forgotten to hit that button)
    I do have a question. I am still using a Galaxy Note 8 which I have kept as I am on an Aldi Mobile family plan, so no 5G as yet. How would the camera compare to that? I want something that is point & click and gets good photos. I occasionally use the zoom so that may be an issue. No super long videos. I like the style of the thinkphone, but maybe the camera is not quite good enough?

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman  Год назад

      Hmm. I don't have a Note 8 any more to directly compare, and it is a slightly older phone. That being said, Samsung's generally better than most in the camera space, especially for its flagship phones. I think you'd ultimately find it a slight downgrade especially for zoom shots. What you could consider might be one of the newer Galaxy S phones (like maybe an S22 Ultra, which you might be able to snaffle for similar pricing as it's older, while still keeping the Stylus, for example).

    • @dumbo3200
      @dumbo3200 Год назад

      @@AlexKidman cheers. Not a bad option as I had not considered that. (even refurbished) My perfect phone is dual sim, 3.5 mm jack, good camera, and preferably no large edge curves.
      A new Sony Xperia 1 V would be nice, but expensive and would have to be a grey import.

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman  Год назад +1

      @@dumbo3200 Yeah, Sony's sorely missed in the market -- but basically nobody was buying their phones, so it's understandable why they (quietly) withdrew. I'd be wary of grey importing a phone not sold here; repairs would be a *nightmare*.

    isn't it the SD 8+ Gen 1 Chipset? Hey does it come with a pre applied screen protector?

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman  Год назад

      It is; mental brain flub on my part when putting it together. I'd rather own my mistakes than ignore them. The point around it not being the current cutting edge at release time is still valid, though, I feel.

    • @chrish4634
      @chrish4634 Год назад

      @@AlexKidman yeah cool I was gonna buy then saw the review and thought ah SD 8 Gen 1 I would pass as they heat up to much, I have the Edge 30 Ultra now do you reckon that's worth upgrading I just feel the battery is abit meh where as the thinkphone is 5000mAh

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman  Год назад

      @@chrish4634 I personally wouldn't upgrade that soon unless there's a serious problem with the phone (and then I'd be looking at warranties etc in the first place); can't speak to the 30 Ultra battery life (I only got to to test the regular 30 of that generation) for comparative purposes against the thinkphone.

    Can you please confirm if your ThinkPhone can make VoLTE calls?

      Hi -- sadly can't check as it's gone back to Motorola now (it was a loaner), but I believe it should (or at least the AU-as-sold model should, international models may vary)

    one thing i don’t understand is the Tik Tok ban when Lenovo sells the corporate hardware that drives most governments & their consultants. Tho phones although not likely to be the primary business driver but the kids n relatives of government workers and consultants - true sharers of emails and apps that will let the bots in and the sensitive data out

    Living in the U.S...have a bit of advantage for at the moment it's been discounted to $399.99 US ..at this price it's a Flagship killer..in the 5- 9 hundreds range...But that's my personal opinion...and we all know how that goes...✌️

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman  7 месяцев назад

      That'd be around $620 or so -- maybe a tad more with taxes on board -- here in Australia. And at that price, it'd be a very decent buy!
