I'm changing the rods in my BRZ before it sees any boost. I only want 270 to 300 at the wheels, but like you, I want to know I can drive it without worrying about it.
A better clutch, fuel pump and brakes along with rods and the stage 1 Full Blown kit will make me very happy! I don't want crazy power, it is my daily after all.
Damn it Jonny, tricked me again! Looking forward to seeing the next steps!
Excellent shopping skills.
tossed a rocker arm on blown one easy fix lot of silicone tho lol
That blue frs makes me sad seeing it in that state
MrBolero its all good now, running properly
isnt hooking up the fa20 to the trans a bitch? i had to take out the trans and mount them outside the car and then surf the trans through the engine bay
Just about the same as any engine and trans, they can be a pain.
Get a ptuning turbo kit!!
I'm in the exact same process as you right now with my frs. I feel your pain
Michael Neal swapping out engines aswell?
Jonny The Car Doctor i threw a rod and i’m having the motor rebuilt. i’m also going 10.5:1
Michael Neal ah ok, the hyperblue brz threw a rocker arm, my engine was fine so I sold it and bought the built engine to avoid possibly throwing a rod.
Jonny The Car Doctor yeah that’s probably a good idea because i’m sure that motor would give out after a long period of time at 12psi. i was at 13psi with a supercharger when mine blew after about a year
I have just now started to really look into cars and honestly i love the look of fhe widebody frs. I plan on buying the car soon but i have no knowledge of installation where can i go to sit down and plan out with someone the modifications i want to do ?
Wonder if you bothered to check the flow rates on the DI's matched on both motors.
I see you swapped to the 6speed life. Who’d you get the built one off of down here? It’s going to be sick when you get it back together. We need to track together soon!
Casey Henry-Alexander His name is Jeramy, he is going to LS swap his with a t56 trans.
Hey man I was planning on boosting my brz soon, but I remember watching your install video and you went over how safe you did your setup multiple times...so what do you think happened or what do you think you would have done differently to protect the engine more?
brehio yes my setup was safe, I even tracked it hard and had no issues, I just ended up selling my engine in perfect state and buying a built one so I can run it at 450whp reliably.
Jonny The Car Doctor oh okay my misunderstanding. I thought you were showing where your engine blew in the video.
So. Where did this built Engine come from tht blue brz?
Mentioned in the video, bought the built engine locally, removed my stock engine to replace the blown blue brz engine after the customer blew it.
@@JonnyBarajas what'd the built engine dyno at or is it still in the works? 383 396 was still some sick output for an unbuilt stock engine with a kit an accessories. 👍
Sick vid!!! Do you own a shop or what?
ZayLid its the family business
Swap those spec d headlights from blue frs to initialized frs
The next incarnation will be even better \m/
Why not test the turbos limit that you have now? Maybe its volume flow will surprise you and keep up. If not good enough no need to buy a whole new kit if only the turbo itself needs to be upgraded.
Siiello I want to go ball bearing turbo for a quicker spool. It costs the same or cheaper to just sell the kit and buy one with the turbo I want.
Why does the front splitter have gravel? Were you at a local track day and blew the motor there?
Frank Chavez I didnt blow my engine, the hyper blue brz is the one that threw a rocker, gravel is from parking next door and my car is low enough to pick them up.
What's been done to the built engine?
amcluesent Fully forged internals, gsc valve springs and reimax oil pump.
What causes the rocker failures?
This one was caused by over revving the engine.
That's unfortunate , but it happens.
Rookie To Pro glad it wasn't my engine.
Ls swap the world!
Thats sad, now i dont wan to boost my car lol. Really wish you bought a shortblock and did a how to :(
Would've been a cool experience, but not worth the 2-3k extra.
when everyone says boosting is reliable on stock internals. lol
Patrick De Freitas it IS, it is just a matter of how much, and how hard and often it’s run in that elevated state. The FA20 won several awards and is one of the best modern engines, and you cannot do much better for this car if you want to keep in the spirit and driving dynamics of the Toyota 86. (If you swap, you change the whole car, and not necessarily for the best, but that is subjective) Remember it was not designed with rip your face off power in mind. This is a handling and drift king, not a stoplight warrior. However that does not mean you can’t put large amounts of power in it, it just becomes a bit of a risk because of the already high cylinder compression. For safety it’s best to reinforce everything ahead of time. There is also an FA20T engine that has differently shaped pistons and was designed for turbo off the line, at least according to my understanding.
Patrick De Freitas it is reliable to a certain extent, I had no issues just that I wanted to run more power so for it to be reliable at 450whp I needed to get a built engine.
Bryan R The blow engine was on an NA engine, looks like they over revved and a rocker fell out. Valve springs are a weakness in the engine. My boosted engine was perfectly fine thats why I sold it.
whats going on with the st
Hlogi Mononela its another build series we are doing, we have about 6 videos on it.
Cool.love your videos man especially the evo
