I loved this video, thank you. Georgioupolis is one of my favourite places on earth, so many wonderful holidays there over the years. It's about 6 years since I've been there and I miss it, but ......... I miss what it was like before the new promenade was built and before the fountain was put in the square etc, etc
It"s a very nice, friendly place. I like how colourful it is, even now, when the season is over. Thanks for showing the small details like the roses and that flower shop. There's some pleasant atmosphere in that town...
To be honest, I am shocked, when I see the place and how it became during the years. My first time in Georgioupoli was in September 1975 and it was wonderful. A quiet place, shadowed by many trees. The river and the typical Greek/Cretean restaurants. Amazing food and wonderful people. Lang line of beaches and no one the see. The mighty mountains in the distance and the clear sea. During the years I went there often, even spent some nights in the simple, but sweet little hotels. Found my favorite restaurant. Became even friend with one of the sons of the owners. But then life changed and I haven’t been that often anymore there and during my last trips I was unable to have a stop there. Now, watching your video - what is very well done by the way - I’m just shocked by all the new buildings. The so not beauty anymore of the old and quiet little village it once was. For me it is one of the dark examples what tourism means. How it destroys values by brings money and - eventually - greed to the people, it also destroys, what Crete once ment: hospitality, simplicity, natural beauty. Maybe it sounds harsh and I have to respect peoples need for a food income. But again, Gergioupoli is an example for the price the wonderful people and lately we all pay. Thanks anyway Zameer. I really appreciate your video from the island, that for me is and always will be my real home, the only place on earth I will always miss!
I agree with you 100%. But my first experience with Crete is from 2004. Since that time changed a lot. And became a touristic, profit orientated place as well. Unfortunately.
@@dndfszk22 I understand it and even I am a tourist and ate part of the people that bring the changes. Even if I mostly live with my friends at their place and I speak Greek well. But it still hurts me.
I understand your feelings of nostalgia, but dwelling on the past won't help you. The world keeps moving forward, whether you like it or not. Georgioupoli is just one of many places that have changed over time. That's how it goes, otherwise you'd have to move way up into the mountains. And even there, there's no guarantee things will stay the same.
@@Tony-8280 I know that of course. But there are cases where the changes have been done carefully and for a better quality. Maybe it is the case in Georgioupoli. But what I see from the video let me doubt that.
A pretty town, Geogioupoli! A little too touristic for my taste, but it is a great base for exploring the Apokoronas region. Are you picking olives this year? That would be a nice film, maybe watching the oil being made. And it is soon the season for making raki. Have a good Winter, Zameer!
