In Ian Anderson's version, it is in DADGAD at the 4th fret. In my version here, it is just drop D with Capo at the fifth for my vocal range, it worked better there. Thanks for listening, Amy
A lady jamming a 12-string to some of the finest rock is quite a sight and I LOVED it!!! Great vocal, too. Again, I must share your brilliance by posting and sharing. I share your love of Tull!! Awesome Amy!!! BRAVO! ~Jackie
See, I'm an uberfan of all things Tull. So sweet are you to cover this most mytical "tune" from a most mystical Ian Anderson and company! You have been HEARD!! Love, peace, and understanding.
You rock! I like the almost mandolin-like sound of the guitar on this one and the fingerbrushing strum style.Yes,it's been a cold winter. We had an ice storm in Ohio and it was magically beautiful for those of us who didn't lose their electric. Yet the warmth of your music feels good during this season. Thank you.
Very well done Amy its great to see a young person do Tull and do it well.Ians music has always been mystical and wonderfully obscure to me and you captured it perfectly.
I dont have tabs and I dont play it DADGAD, like Ian Anderson did. But I may in the near future post a lesson of how I play it here on Vanderbilly internet tutorial site. Thanks for listening! Amy
Checking this out has made staying up late worth it. Love your playing and the guitar sounds great. Hadn't heard the original, but this will do very nicely for me. Thanks for sharing this with us. Simon.
Brilliant! What an excellent rendition and top notch performance of this song by one of my favorite artists of all time. i am working on this one for my Ian repertoire. Nicely done! :-)
Amy McCann Me too! I think Minstrel and Songs From The Wood were their masterpieces. I still have the songbook of transcriptions from Minstrel In The Gallery I bought around the time of release in '75 and long since out-of-print. I saw both tours back in the day. The 12-string is a nice touch!
Marvellous! Great song from favourite band, the loudest I've ever seen/heard, Aqualung tour 72 Liverpool Stadium with Tir na nÓg. Seen this a few times now. Sing along every time. ✌️
Hi Amy. It's been a while. Another great piece of work. My compliments to you on the brilliant guitar work & love hearing your singing. Just watching you play this shows this song is far from an easy feat. Have a great St. Patrick's Day weekend. :)
Amy, warm greetings from So. Cal. (pun intended).. Intensively performed! I see you played in tuning other than DADGAG and with the capo on the 5th fret. You know what works well for you and it shows. Once again you capture the heart and soul of song and make it your own. I absolutely enjoyed your version of this song and I eagerly await the next JT song, for which I am thrilled that you are doing more of.
my favourite song from my favourite Jethro Tull album (both so underrated...) this version is fantastic, and the guitar playing is just perfect! cheers=)
Awesome strumming Amy! Very impressive :) I was a big fan back in the day. I saw their concert "Passion Play". Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories - what I remember anyway :) cheers julie
Good point. The only Tull cover by a female singer that I can recall is the wonderful Julianne Regan covering 'Witch's Promise' in the late 1980's (on a B-side) when she fronted All About Eve.I like this version of 'Cold Wind'-makes me think that 'Dun Ringill','Wond'ring Aloud' or 'Cheap Day Return' would work well by with a female voice.
How gratifying to see my favorite music covered and appreciated by other musicians. Haven't missed a Tull or Ian show but one since '72. Have you followed his music up to present day? Recent new material, i.e. "TAAB2" and "Homo Erraticus"? Both off the charts. He has actually kicked it up a notch. Loved your take on CWTV.
Thanks. Yes I know my timing isn’t exactly like the original. Ian Anderson often applies shifts in meter within songs and I didn’t do that. When I do covers I have to make them my own, so I don’t fuss about trying to reproduce things note for note. I just play em. But I hear ya, and I can see what you’re saying. Thx for your constructive criticism.
@@amccann7 i think the song is maybe sort if ian being a mystical warrior type thingy.. so for me ..being a bloke,, the pounding unbroken rythm and beat are totally essential to the song. For a womans perspective this might be less obvious .. anyway just a thought for what its worth..i dont know..i was a tull fan..i got fairly obsessed with this song
Amy, I love the way you drive this song with the guitar arrangement. Brilliant. When people ask me how I learned to play guitar so fast, I tell them triple espresso. I sent a video response to one of mine that I really cranked up for the performance. Hope you like it. David
@troubleclef thanks so much Tony! Yes, i did take a listen to Jack's version; he plays it differently than I do, in DADGAD tuning, which is probably how Ian did it...but I had already been playing it in drop D so I just kept it there, which I think worked out! And of course I had to change from 4th to 5th fret capo to accomodate the vcl. The coffee was a pre-requisite to keep up the speed!!! haha Amy
can you please post if/when you do this show?!?! I am in Philadelphia and i would love to see someone perform Minstrel in its entirety, or any Tull songs for that matter. Please let me know if it works out.
I gotta get me some of that coffee after hearing this :o) Great Amy, you always do the Tull great justice. I remember that album very well too, I think it was the one after Thick As A Brick If I'm not mistaken. Thanks. -Ron

great playing, nice cover! Thanks for posting this...
Wonderful arrangement and guitar work. I really like the idea of performing this on the normally-heavier sounding 12-string guitar.
